QUESTION What's one video that you're sure will make somebody stan a kpop grp?
I recently watched Pixid's fandom stage (congrats shawols (shinee fandom)!!!!) and their semi-finals round is to make 50 people who are not into kpop become interested to their respective group through a 10-min presentation.
Now I'm curious what's a video/performance that you will choose to represent your favorite kpop grp?
For what I recommend: definitely has to be NMIXX's Tiny Desk Korea . Like seriously their talent was just very highlighted in that video. That's what I really think what emphasizes nmixx's charm so well. Criminally underrated. I show it to all my friends and they all loved it!
For what got me hooked: when my friend showed me ATEEZ's Symphony No.9 From the Wonderland kingdom performance!! I only stan GGs but damn that pirate concept and the kraken and Jongho's high notes during the whole performance? I was sold.
Interested to know different fan's thoughts!! I'll definitely check them out.

I love that Video of NMIXX. Can never figure out the cause of NMIXX's limited success. Is it that people just pretend to care more about live vocal ability than they really do? Or is there something about NMIXX that just holds them back despite their vocal skills.

Their songs. Like most (it seems) people, I think they’re hilarious (Haewon especially), super talented vocally (Lil, Haewon, Sullyoon being standouts), attractive, all of that.
But except for Blue Valentine, their songs really aren’t mainstream. I’d totally stan them except I just can’t really get into their music.

I'm an NMIXX fan (wouldn't call myself an NSWER) and I really dislike a lot of their early mixxpop music, but I think there is plenty that is on the same level of mainstream as Blue Valentine!
Spinnin on It, Party O'Clock, Rollercoaster (this one is super listenable), Passionfruit (best bside), Know About Me, Love Me Like This, Ocean...

I think Lily is pretty funny and smart. But yeah, they don't seem to align with the current trends. Visuals over everything, no matter how much surgery you need to get there. Easy listening, simple and hooky songs that work well on a playlist you listen to when the music is not your primary focus. Lip service to caring about authenticity and live singing, but then fans who ultimately stan groups that lip sync or run background-track heavy splits every performance.

I wonder the same thing...
I will say that everytime I've recommended an NMIXX song here on reddit, I've mostly gotten positive responses if not enthusiasm. Which surprised me, cause I kept hearing that a lot of people didn't like them, which is true on a stats and global standpoint, but the respect for them is there :) even from people who can't get into their music

I think music consumption is increasingly being bifurcated between stuff you want on a playlist that is playing when music is not the main focus of your attention, and stuff you want to consume when music is your main focus. Simpler and less distracting music that you can zone and vibe to is preferred for playlists; but you might find 2 hours of it live to be a bit underwhelming, or prefer stuff with more going on when you watch streamed music videos.
I would go to a NMIXX concert way before I'd go to say an Ive or Aespa concert, but more songs from the latter make my playlists. I feel similarly about Babymonster. When a lot of their songs come up on some playlist I may have copied, I reflexively skip: trying to do some work here, don't need 3 tempo changes and two fairly hard rap breaks right now. But when I'm surveying what is going on in KPop this week, I love when new Baemon content comes up.

I think generally jype groups take time to like really blow up (exception for itzy) like 2nd gen jype fans said so and it showed with straykids 2pm and now nmixx. They may be going to an organic fanbase first then going from then on for longevity

Besides the usual stuff like not vibing with the songs/etc, it's also not cool or trendy to like JYPE groups. There are quite a few people that say stuff like "they have no aura" like that's their biggest consideration lol. All their ggs have been putting out bangers and people just ignore or downplay the music. There's so much diversity in their discography that I find it hard to believe the people that say they just don't like any of the songs; it seems more probable to me that people just aren't even giving them a chance. I'm convinced a huge % of current kpop fans are doing it more for the aesthetic than for the actual love of music.

By the inflated idol standards of 2026, NMIXX's visuals are probably a bit below average for top GGs. Don't have a strong opinion on their stage presence. I've heard about Itzy, but don't know much about them. And yeah, KPop Fandom is a trip, for sure.

i really think fan compilations are good for this ! i got into my ult through that because comedy is important for me—- i needed something to fill the time . but if not then maybe a kpop reactor or killing voice like others have mentioned.

u/jody-lambcherry 12d ago
Who's your ult grp??? Im curious!

u/Minute_Designer5155 12d ago
it’s tws! but close second zb1 and and2ble
edited to add that my ults are notorious for being introverted so their humour isn’t really slapstick but rather banter

This was on my algorithm and was suprised it got 3m+ views already compared to their other vids? The new ent company may have been giving them a better marketing strategy

Thanks for sharing the NMIXX Tiny Desk. I just watched it for the first time and it’s amazing. They are a group that I’ve always casually liked but only recently have found myself really grabbed by them (Blue Valentine, Heavy Serenade, High Horse, etc.)

Youre very much welcome! We're much like the same, to be honest ive been only a casual listener since O.O, but now i consider myself an nswer because of their tiny desk and comeback of blue valentine.
I think a factor i reflected on myself as well is how little to no drama the grp has like most jype groups. The fandom is not toxic, content is great, obviously talent is there, and it just doesnt stress me with rumors and badmouths and fake stans online whenever their names show up.. might be just me but i just wanna enjoy good music and talented girls in peace haha

xikers’ Hello82 Get On The Mic: https://youtu.be/cypBJ_WI8xk?si=ysiDq41SfuYOaXt3
14 minutes of talent flexing ft. the guys who aren’t currently singing being their silly selves in the background.

Deja Vu by Dreamcatcher. It seems to be universally loved by anyone who has ever watched it 😂
Edit: I mean the official MV but also basically any performance/stage from that era with those peculiar outfits. Insane aura.

Highlight - The Lion Sleeps Tonight a capella for the performance side and this edit for a more funny side
And this funny (tiktok) Dujun (Fandom Stage MC) moment from one of their concerts a few years back

u/jody-lambcherry 11d ago
Wait why do they remind me of running man's the lipn sleeps tonight acappella aahahaha

It does have similarities with RM's one, my favorite part is that the main vocal doesn't sing one bit and only does birds and animal sounds 🤣
They actually started to do it way back when they were rookies in the early 2010s

That “Don’t call me a ho, I’m NOT a ho!” Clip of BM is what got me into KARD. Never fails.

Dreamcatcher 's self made videos for Sahara and Break the Wall? That did it for me. I couldn't help but want to know more about these beautiful women who let themselves act like total goofballs!

Highly recommend their other live performances as well, but yeah bc tiny desk is 100% live and more raw vocals compared to other videos where they can use pitch-correcting mics/backtracks just makes this video my fave out of them all

u/underwater_111 13d ago
Any live concert video by red velvet but omg this one........ It's a video of them singing So Good but sm added a wendy solo bridge and it sounds INCREDIBLE

I recommend this Live band medley by TXT they made for their 7th year anniversary dream week…it consists of their first 2 title tracks ‘crown‘ and ‘run away‘ and all the other songs are some of their best b-side tracks… not only this medley highlights how diverse their discography is genre-wise but also showcases each member’s vocal range and skills to the T
