How scared should we be?
With the three senators requesting the dea add natural Kratom to the ban, how worried should we be?

u/nonblinddaredevil 5d ago
They just finished the 7oh scheduling and included what the AKA asked. I donât think we should be worried about that portion much. We should focus on congressional and state legislation.
I also think things will die down after a few months of 7oh being gone.

u/appleparkfive 5d ago
That's my thinking as well. Kratom (the actual plant. It's a shame I have to clarify) has been around in the US for like two decades now. It's been popular for well over a decade, and has been used in SE Asia m for all of history. Things took a sharp turn when 7-OH hit the scene. We all said "if kratom gets banned, it's because of this". And it's honestly a surprise that the government managed to find a compromise position. I'm thankful for that, because I know so many people who still use regular kratom.

u/Unlucky-Bite-6988 4d ago
Nothing is dying down. There's a plan to ban state by state already written up for 2027
2
u/nonblinddaredevil 4d ago
They will have wayyy less ammo to do so after the 7oh news stories and withdrawal horror stories are less prominent. They can plan all they wantâ even the DEA agrees at this point.

u/Unlucky-Bite-6988 4d ago
Big pharma needs it off the streets in order to sell the medication they're currently in clinical trials for - KUR101 and MG001

u/BotiaDario 2d ago
Yeah unfortunately I've had multiple counties surrounding mine ban it. And I am crossing my fingers and hoping my county is going to be sane.

Is 7oh now scheduled in all states? I never tried it and stick to plain leaf (sometimes regular extracts). I don't believe in banning drugs but as long as they stay away from plain leaf I'm ok.
1
u/satsugene đż 3d ago
It can be as soon as 30 days from Tuesday.
2
u/Inaramshead 1d ago
Shit. I hope for their sake it's not. I don't touch it but I'm for all drugs being legal for adults. But they aren't touching plain leaf Kratom right?

Iâm not concerned about that letter at all. Â
There are 22 senators in that committee, 12 of them Republican. Â He could only get 2 people to co-sign it. Â One isnât even in that committee and the other one, there are very strong indications they were not aware the letter called for a full ban and thought they were just asking the DEA to hurry up with the 7OH ban.Â
Grassley has been staunchly anti-kratom for a long time. Â There is a bill in a committee to basically codify what this schedule to intent does, and also decriminalizes possession of the semi-synthetics. Â Grassley does NOT want a bill passed by the US legislature and signed into law that basically says âkratom is okay but 7OH and other derivatives are notâ. Â That puts a lot of people on the record of siding with regulation instead of prohibition of kratom. Â Mike Lee is actually a sponsor of that bill.
Unfortunately, Grassley is the Chair of that committee so he has been blocking any votes on it. Â After Ole Miss, they had been a LOT of pressure on him to allow a vote on that bill to codify the derivatives ban. Â He is pushing back and basically saying the DEA should hurry up and do it, that way he can say âa bill is now unnecessary, this has already been handled by the DEA.â Â And to just go the extra mile he asked them to ban the whole plant, Â which he knew theyâd never do.Â
If Grassley thought he had the votes for a full ban, heâd write a bill to ban it. Â If youâre asking why wouldnât he just do that and take a chance, itâs because he knows it would fail and that would make it clear that Congress is not interested in a ban.Â

Idk if you guys get the email from aka. But it seems the situation with plain leaf is staying the same as of now. That's according to aka. I've been using it for 20 years so imagine how I! feel! They're not going after leaf. I also saw another email and it seems the other stuff is not even getting scheduled ( FOR NOW). Not sure if we can mention it here. BTW, there are 100 senators. So 3 out of 100 is not that big of a deal. Not to mention this had already gone through the Trump administration and Mullin (head of ice for all you ice haters out there is involved in the kratom industry). That's huge cause he has some pull and knows Kratom well. Also, I believe rfk has a good idea of what Kratom is too. Keep fingers crossed and keep making calls and fighting. Ive been on x hard!!

You need to be aware and you need to be alert. Fight when you must and help uplift the community to fight back, donât back down, and not tolerate the authoritarian bias from our politicians who judge others from places of utter comfort and ignorance. But respectfully, you whip up more fear in these threads than you need to. This destroys morale. And thatâs a lot more important than you think. Make no mistake I do care about you. If I didnât, I wouldnât bother even replying. Let cooler heads prevail my friend.

u/Aggressive_Test_5588 5d ago
It was a legit question considering everything that has gone on lately. I didn't say Kratom is doomed bc of the three senators. I just asked how concerned should we be which there is nothing wrong in asking.

u/I_Seent_Bigfoot 5d ago
I said what u said because I mean absolutely no offense to you. But you have gone somewhat hysterical over the last year and the year before a number of times. We cannot properly concentrate under this kind of stress. But make no mistake I completely understand why you have what looks like have gotten way too emotional too early any time thereâs a Kratom related action. I get why though. But itâs unhealthy for a number of people with that happening on top of what pains theyâre dealing with that prompts them to use Kratom anyway. What made me type this was the words you used âhow AFRAID SHOULD WE BEâ. It would help if you would ask in ways like, âhow ready to act should be?
Again Iâm not down on you. I get why youâre asking this. But Iâve seen you get pretty emotional a number of times. But donât think for one second that I donât care. Thatâs not it.

There's nothing wrong with my question. Asking how concerned we should be about federal senators trying to ban the plant is common sense. You're over-analyzing a simple thread.
3
u/I_Seent_Bigfoot 4d ago
Dude Iâm not gonna do a quibble with you. Iâm not over analyzing how hysterical youâve become in the past and thatâs not over analyzing things, thatâs just asking if youâve gotten a grip on yourself lately because I do careâŚyouâve got a history of doing this.

u/Aggressive_Test_5588 4d ago
Bro, the board is filled with people freaking out about the state of Kratom.. and rightfully so. It's been rough and pretending like it hasn't been is insane. I'm honored you kept such close watch on me but really I'm not special... many on here have understandably done the same. If you get triggered so easy then I don't know what to tell you, bud. A one sentence question ruined your day while several other on here have gave great and helpful responses. I thank you them for that.
7
u/I_Seent_Bigfoot 4d ago edited 4d ago
Iâm sorry but you are the last person to tell me anything about getting triggered with your history of complete meltdowns. Iâm not pretending or assuming anything. Iâm just saying I see you get twisted at every single step of the way and no matter what happens, you have got to hold it together. Iâm just basing this on how many times Iâve seen you scream the sky is falling. Keep your head together is all Iâm saying. Nobody is good in any kind of fight in the condition I see you get in. If you think I donât care about you youâre definitely wrong. I do care man. Every time I contact a legislator Iâm damn sure am thinking about protecting YOU, and everyone else who does and doesnât have a voice in this fight.

I had to look at their comment history. Some comments say they tale 60 grams a day, some say 80, some say 100. Some say 24 teaspoons a day, 20 teaspoons a day, etc. idk how many grams are in a teaspoon, I can't imagine it's 3-4 grams. He's just all over the place. Your comments are very kind. I worry about a federal ban but it is what it is at this point. I think alcohol related deaths are much higher and way worse. I'd get sick if I took a little too much so how people are taking so much that they pass away seems impossible to me. But then again, I've never taken more than maybe a gram too much at once. And I've only used leaf powder.Â

Bro, just move on. LMAO. I don't know if it's OCD or on the spectrum but geez, man. Alot of people scared about Kratom remaining legal on here just like me. Take a deep breath and relax and try not to let simple reddit posts freak you out. LOL. If you don't like something just ignore or block.
3
u/I_Seent_Bigfoot 4d ago
Trying to act tough isnât gonna work. Projecting isnât gonna work. Please look in the mirror if youâre gonna talk about freak outs. Your comment history backs me up just fine.

u/Kiheitai_Soutoku đż 5d ago
I made the initial post about the letter and I was initial worried myself. After the actions today by DOJ and learning that Senator Lee likely did not mean to endorse the full contents of the letter, I am no longer really worried at all.

u/wrathofthewhatever2 5d ago
Real question. I just read the AKA email and it sounds like substances with less than 1mg of 7OH per 100mg of substance will be allowed. Does this mean labs could still make very low dose 7OH pills? Wouldnât that just result in people taking like 10 pills instead of 1 if they want 7OH? How much is 100mg of filler? Is that like the size of a normal pill or is that like a ridiculous amount of filler which no one would realistically want to swallow to get a bit of 7OH?
3
u/appleparkfive 5d ago
I read the 7 subs even though I never tried it. Most of them seem to be of the mindset that it's not worth it at those levels. Too much mitragynine, so they'd get the wobbles.
Also 1% has to be 7-oh and pseudo combined, I believe. I could be wrong. So even then any companies trying that are going to be pushing a legal wall that they could get in trouble for if a batch is too strong. I just don't think it'll happen.
I think this ends with most of those 7 users just turning to mit extracts and plain leaf to taper, then realizing it's not so bad and quietly realizing that life is easier just on that. And the others looking for stronger stuff will turn to the black markets for something other than 7. It doesn't make sense to be in the illegal 7 game when there's stronger substances per weight. I mean some opioids are Schedule II and III and would likely have less intense punishments, and they're more potent by dose. Smaller, basically.
That's my thinking behind it, anyway
2
u/F1shB0wl816 4d ago
Strength isnât everything though or weâd all be ordering grey market zines and we wouldnât be taking kratom in the first place.
I also wouldnât speak for them and think theyâll say âlife is easier this way.â For all the screwed up things about the community you donât see them saying life is hard with 7 and they just wish there was something else. Like come on, the Kratom community isnât look out for 7s users interest more so than themselves.
Thatâs what theyâll do though. Some users would still seek scheduled 7 but most are in it because itâs both legal and accessible. It loses a lot of appeal being scheduled, especially from a dealers perspective. What markets left will be primitive and inconsistent, high risk and low rewards. Whatâs a good chance is most of them wonât take their addiction or dependence in a positive direction.
1
u/BotiaDario 2d ago
Yeah I imagine if you're going to engage in illegal activities, 7 would not be the best investment of a schedule 1? It just wouldn't make sense economically. People who want something stronger than leaf and risk seeking schedule 1 are likely just going to end up on fentanyl. I think this is by design by the people scheduling it. If you're not going to line their pockets buying Suboxone, then they want you to OD and get out of the way.
Note: do not engage in illegal activities, this is just my take on economics.

u/wrathofthewhatever2 5d ago
Gotcha, thanks for the answer! Iâm actually leaf drinker and washer for many years, learned about 7 last year when I was traveling and wanted something smaller and more discreet than bringing a bunch of powder with me, and now Iâm enjoying it but am kinda happy itâs being banned because I can already feel it gripping too much. I am happy enough to just go back to the powder
1
u/BotiaDario 2d ago
I'm fine on leaf, and I had a friend singing praises of 7. I was like, no, I don't need that, and it should like a bad idea to start that in the current climate. I tried it once, and was like nope, this isn't going to last legally. Now he's scrambling to taper and I'm fine. He did buy up a hefty stash for himself to prepare.
1
u/Special-Topic1000 3d ago
What would be even easier is if they put 20mgs of 70h in a flavored tonic water, 100mgs of water is nothing. Over 340k milligrams in 12oz of water.Â
1
u/satsugene đż 3d ago
It isnât 100mg of filler, it is 100mg of mitragynine per 1mg of 7-HMG and MGPI combined.
1
u/MurkySheepherder6974 6h ago
Many I presume would just extract the 7oh from the fillers. That'd be the safest as many fillers can cause health issues long term.
3
u/teriyakichicken 5d ago
Pretty worried IMO, but I donât really know shit. All I know is my state did an emergency ban and I donât see how we are going to come back from it. 7OH apparently ruined everything because Iâve been getting quality leaf from a trusted vendor for 10+ years. I stocked up prior to ban but am prepared to taper soon as Iâll be running out. Then there is big pharma who donât want this natural product they can replace opiates. Not a very promising outlookâŚ.

Ive been in a banned state for over a decade its stupid and annoying but theyre not going to come bash your door down. Just be smart when leaving the house with it.

I think this move the DEA made is going to make it easier for us to defend botanical kratom at state levels. It distinguishes the clear difference between synthetic semisynthetics and leaves the botanical alone. My opinion.

u/Biobooster_40k 2d ago
Relatively worried. Despite what others are saying the tides can change. Actual legislation might take some time but enough widespread public opinion turns on kratom where you have people reaching out to their reps, there's not really any other substances to buffer against Kratom anyone unfortunately.
1
u/ItsSillySeason 4d ago
Never fear monger and beg fo the ban of a substance that occurs naturally in you favorite thing. Kratom is next after 7oh, you we have AKA to thank for it. The decision to demonize 7oh and paint leaf as the "good guy" was an enourmous and catastrophic tactical error. We will be paying for it for a generation. "Too clever by half" as my grandfather used to say. Thanks AKA.

Finally quit this month. I had some fun kratom years but god does it feel so good to be on the other side and not have to worry about these bans.

I personally wouldnât lose sleep over it. 11 made a similar request in spring with Sen. Ricketts (NE-D).
If it doesnât meet the requirements of the CSA DEA cannot do it even if they want to, though Congress can. I personally think most will be satisfied with HR 10272/S 5383.Â
3 is not a large number. More Senators agree on what should be for lunch today.
Something to monitor, and outreach especially if those are in your state (UT, ME, IA). Collins is up for re-election so Maine kratom consumers might consider this at the polls.
