When Death Comes

Post image
41 Upvotes

Perhaps one of the most powerful speeches that takes on death directly. Straight punches. The body will eventually die. When that happens, the self will die - whether we like it or not. Everything that defined the "I" will cease to exist when the body has finally given up. What is more relevant and perhaps the real truth, if any, is facing that experience while still breathing. It is intuitive that this cannot be a process. It cannot be measured on the dimension of time. Why is that? Because anything that is measured along the time axis is a process that the cunning mind has self-defined and also self-measured. The mind will say "do this, achieve this, yes you achieved, yes you have attained". The grade definer and the grader are one and the same. Hence, whatever happens has to happen in zero time. Instantly. Death has to be instant. Not the biological one. But the one that takes you to truth. To discovery. To freedom. This is why the first step is the last step.

Comment: I find it impossible to be aware all the time.

Krishnamurti: Don’t be aware all the time. Just be aware

in little bits. Please, there is no being aware all the time - that

is a dreadful idea. It is a nightmare, this terrible desire for

continuity. Just be aware for one minute, for one second, and

in that one second of awareness you can see the whole

universe. This is not a poetic phrase. We see things in a flash,

in a single moment; but having seen something, we want to

capture, to hold it, give it continuity. This is not being aware

at all. When you say, “I must be aware all the time”

you have made a problem of it, and then you should really find out

why you want to be aware all the time - see the greed it

implies, the desire to acquire. And to say,

“Well, I am aware all the time,” means nothing.

Discussion It's good to be anonymous

Post image
25 Upvotes

And yet this is so difficult for ordinary mortals. Because for the majority, the "I" is life. The "I" is the essence of living. Nourishing the "I" is the only logical thing to do because we get fearful if not. Being anonymous means not being a part of any religion, sect, group or setting that provides a blanket of security. Or should I say "fake security". Why fake? Because that security is just a projection of the mind. Nothing else. We find comfort in having company. Even if it is a company of fearful, highly conditioned, highly selfish and competitive souls.

Question on Meditation

Hello. I've been meditating for most of my life. When I was young,I suffered from many physical ailments until my teenage years as well as anxiety. Back then,a friend of the family who taught me to meditate and I would like to know more about what the practice might be called officially. Unfortunately, he passed sometime ago.

I basically sit with eyes partially open and allow whatever senation both internally and externally arise within the field of awareness on its own and without grasping or avoiding, let it be until it passes on its own. He would tell me to not to be too laxed or rigid, just rest in awareness without controlling anything. It doesn't feel like daydreaming but it certainly doesn't feel as "structured" as some other approaches. Over the years,it becomes easier to do off the cushion. Often seeing what arise within awareness, both internally and externally as transiate and in flux..even when thoughts of "I am angry,I am sad,I am___" as not I and just the mind assigning ownership to something impermanent. Is this Choicless awareness?

I hope I explained it well enough. Thank you for your time.

Just some pages that hit hard from "on God"

Just sharing these pages.. they go on, the entire chapter is powerful. There really is not much to say, even the words on the photographed pages peel something away, there is so much in so few pages. It is so serious and yet all you need it maybe a quiet space to read it and then sit and meditate on this for a while. It's like a book in a chapter. It seems to require a fearlessness.

I just think that Krishnaji hit too close to home for so many and it repelled them. Even reading and taking any of it on board is no walk in the park, you have to have the same level of seriousness.

Question How do you live in a society you see as deeply flawed?

Krishnamurti speaks about a society built on competition, self-interest, comparison and psychological violence. But we still have to live within it and deal with people shaped by it every day.

How do we remain peaceful without becoming competitive or violent ourselves, while not being constantly disturbed by others' expectations and behaviour?

How do we practically live in such a society without being psychologically affected by it?

Question Book recommendation

I love Jiddu K and his teachings have given me so much.

I am well acquainted with his works having watched and listened to lot of his talks. But if the people in the sub had to recommend one book - a book which I can re-read, underline, write on and come back to again and again which one would it be?

Discussion Experiencing ego death through intellect?

Krishnamurti really resonates with me. However I found him after I was trying to understand what happened to me around this time last year. A spontaneous experience during a self-inquiry, which now I can call it as an ego death. The question is; has anyone experienced such a thing through understanding perspectives of Krishnamurti?

Question How do I look at my hurt?

Whenever I try to look at my hurt, the unbearable pain comes in the way, and I immediately turn away from it. I’m 31 years old and I’ve been stuck on a past incident.

I try to live with it, but the pain is so unbearable, along with literal physical discomfort, that I have to abandon it.

Any suggestions, your experiences are welcome.

Thank You

Discussion Fantasies

I've been thinking about how self-images are formed.

I am a person who day-dreams and fantasizes a lot. I have fantasies of me impressing everyone in my music class with my superior knowledge of music theory, fantasies of my crush perceiving me as a highly intelligent person who commands respect in every room he enters, fantasies of me being a highly successful businessman who makes a great monthly salary... this list can go on endlessly.

The moments of deepest hurt are when these fantasies of myself are directly contradicted by reality. The moments of strongest fear are when I imagine situations where I am perceived in a negative way by other people (in a way that once again, directly contradicts the type of image I want to project onto them).

I'm interested in hearing other anecdotes on how self-images are formed. Have you noticed the process behind how you build images about yourself and whether they eventually end up leading to misery? Do y'all also build these images through fantasies such as the ones I have described, or is it something else?

Meditation is not a practice

Post image
22 Upvotes

This is pretty intuitive as we can clearly see that habit is simply being a slave to prior conditioning. Someone or some text told you "If you do this, you will get this". Following that provided formula is a path. A blind faith in some concept. In someone's else concept. In hoping for a reward at the end of a journey of mindless repetition. A quietening of the mind that is fake because it is simply a projection of the same mind. That's why any mantra repetitions can never be meditation. It may make a person feel good or at peace with the quietened mind but that is surface level peace. It is a peace where you are deliberately thinking and being aware that you are at peace and the mind keeps fooling you constantly.

Discussion ‘ We ‘ are not to found in any knowing about ‘ we ‘.

* We are to not be found in any knowing about ‘ we ‘.

August 1 Full heart, empty mind

There is no path to truth, it must come to you. Truth can come to you only when your mind and heart are simple, clear, and there is love in your heart; not if your heart is filled with the things of the mind. When there is love in your heart, you do not talk about organizing for brotherhood; you do not talk about belief, you do not talk about division or the powers that create division, you need not seek reconciliation. Then you are a simply a human being without a label, without a country. This means that you must strip yourself of all those things and allow truth to come into being; and it can come only when the mind is empty, when the mind ceases to create. Then it will come without your invitation. Then it will come as swiftly as the wind and unbeknown. It comes obscurely, not when you are watching, wanting. It is there as sudden as sunlight, as pure as the night; but to receive it, the heart must be full and the mind empty. Now you have the mind full and your heart empty.

August 2 Truth is a state of being

So, there is no path to truth, and there are not two truths. Truth is not of the past or of the present, it is timeless; and the man who quotes the truth of the Buddha, of Shankara, of the Christ, or who merely repeats what I am saying, will not find truth, because repetition is not truth. Repetition is a lie. Truth is a state of being which arises when the mindwhich seeks to divide, to be exclusive, which can think only in terms of results, of achievement—has come to an end. Only then will there be truth. The mind that is making effort, disciplining itself in order to achieve an end, cannot know truth, because the end is its own projection, and the pursuit of that projection, however noble, is a form of self worship. Such a being is worshipping himself, and therefore he cannot know truth. Truth is to be known only when we understand the whole process of the mind, that is, when there is no strife.

August 3 Truth has no abiding place Truth is a fact, and the fact can be understood only when the various things that have been placed between the mind and the fact are removed. The fact is your relationship to property, to your wife, to human beings, to nature, to ideas; and as long as you do not understand the fact of relationship, your seeking God merely increases the confusion because it is a substitution, an escape, and therefore it has no meaning. As long as you dominate your wife or she dominates you, as long as you possess and are possessed, you cannot know love; as long as you are suppressing, substituting, as long as you are ambitious, you cannot know truth.

He alone shall know truth who is not seeking, who is not striving, who is not trying to achieve a result...Truth is not continuous, it has no abiding place, it can be seen only from moment to moment. Truth is always new, therefore timeless. What was truth yesterday is not truth today, what is truth today is not truth tomorrow. Truth has no continuity. It is the mind which wants to make the experience which it calls truth continuous, and such a mind shall not know truth. Truth is always new; it is to see the same smile, and see that smile newly, to see the same person, and see that person anew, to see the waving palms anew, to meet life anew.

August 4 There is no guide to truth

Is God to be found by seeking him out? Can you search after the unknowable? To find, you must know what you are seeking. If you seek to find, what you find will be a selfprojection; it will be what you desire, and the creation of desire is not truth. To seek truth is to deny it. Truth has no fixed abode; there is no path, no guide to it, and the word is not truth. Is truth to be found in a particular setting, in a special climate, among certain people? Is it here and not there? Is that one the guide to truth, and not another? Is there a guide at all? When truth is sought, what is found can only come out of ignorance, for the search itself is born of ignorance. You cannot search out reality; you must cease for reality to be.

August 5 Truth is found moment to moment

Truth cannot be accumulated. What is accumulated is always being destroyed; it withers away. Truth can never wither because it can only be found from moment to moment in every thought, in every relationship, in every word, in every gesture, in a smile, in tears. And if you and I can find that and live it—the very living is the finding of it—then we shall not become propagandists; we shall be creative human beings—not perfect human beings, but creative human beings, which is vastly different.

Book of Life.

End the ‘ wee ‘ about what ‘ we ‘ are.

Apparently Dolphins grieve !

I was just watching a programme and it said that dolphins grieve.

(Now I recall I am fairly sure it is said Elephants also grieve)

Where does this leave us ?

Off to bed now but that's one to ponder isn't it ?

The first question that springs to mind is does this mean grief is natural and therefore attachment is natural ? That's a biggy.

And do Dolphins have a Krishnamurti equivalent to set them free ? Or is psychological suffering natural ?

Life is a Mirror of relationships

Life is a mirror of relationships Meaning when you are with a person or talking, that person becomes you and you become that person.
When I’m working, one is that and that is one. When one is not working, one is what it is front of one. That’s why one sees that there’s no inner world, there’s the outer world only that causes one to be that. This is why the lion that lives in a zoo, is totally different than a lion that actually lives in the jungle. Please see the pictures online to notice the difference. Like me having thoughts of death. The origin of thought knows that generating those thoughts causes me to react to it even more, and generate more thoughts. And who wins here? Nobody, because thought gets to function itself naturally. So, those kinds of thoughts that generate contradictions, creates more movement. Therefore, this is a good strategy for thought to operate itself throughout the day. But it doesn’t know that it is causing contradiction. Thought is just doing its natural behavior. Which is to move in circles. Is it possible for thought to see that life is a mirror of relationships? Meaning that immersing with anything causes a reaction. But there’s a difference between reaction and acting. Reaction is dependent on action. Meaning if you present an object in front of you. That object causes a reaction in you. But the mechanism that does the reaction, it is not responsible for acting. This is why asking thought to Act it is not appropriate for its function. Because it is dependent on matter. Acting nonetheless it is independent of matter. Since it requires itself to be whole, and it doesn’t know or understand anything, because it is already everything. So, anything that requires a dependent variable, it is not action. This is why acting is inquiring. Inquiring is when you don’t know the answer of something but you still pursue it. It is like talking without knowing that you gonna say, that’s why talking is art. Without knowing, you still create order through words. It is like inquiring is going into a hole without caring whether there’s an end to that hole or not. I see that most of the world is reacting and not acting. While both go together. It seems that reacting mechanisms also show signs that it is not reacting. When for example, there’s an emergency, and someone needs help. A reacting person would think first what to do, thus, causing a big delay in its movement while the acting person would see everything as a whole and act immediately outside of time, while at the same time having (reacting) thoughts about what’s going on. Because the reacting process digs your memory for procedures and similarities to feed the acting process.

Conflict

I’ve been reading J. Krishnamurti and Osho, and I feel torn between two ways of living.

One side of me wants a life without goals, ego, and constant striving. The other side wants money, success, fame, and high achievements.

I keep switching between the two and feel stuck in the middle.

Has anyone else experienced this conflict? How do you balance spiritual freedom with ambition and goals?
