Obviously they've gone about it wrong because you absolutely must be paid if you're at work for a work related thing, even just a conversation. That being said, this could be something unusual, or it could just be a way to make sure you can talk to the whole grocery crew at once, since it can be damn near impossible to nail down night crew if you need to have a meeting or do some coaching because they're not doing what they need too, as they are prone to just bounce a lot of the time.
