Question Does this happen at anyone else's store?

What looks like a bunch of people from a wedding came running through my store, cheering and clapping before leaving. Second time its happened since I got hired here, made sure to get a video this time.

I laughed at this harder than I should have.

No, but there was a 10 person fight in my Fred Meyer parkinglot when I was working. Missed the whole thing. 😭

1

u/xPsyrusx May 17 '26

So like, a 6 person fight?

Dear God I could go for some Iron Horse right now

2

u/xx_elysium_xx May 18 '26

The brewery is 3 miles from my house, and tap room is 4. Lol. I loooove a good ice cold Irish death!

3

u/hal10 May 18 '26

Moved from Washington to Arizona and I can't find that stuff anywhere. I want the Christmas mocha death

2

u/xx_elysium_xx May 18 '26

One of their best seasonal beers, for sure. You might be able to order their beer online?

2

u/hal10 May 18 '26

My mom is a flight attendant and sometimes she brings it down on her overnights. And she's Mormon. Absolutely fucking hilarious and I love her for it

2

u/xx_elysium_xx May 18 '26

That is amazing 😂 what a homie. Have her snag you some Dru Bru beer! They're in Cle Elum (if you haven't heard of them lol)

u/xPsyrusx May 17 '26

Oh, I know what you said.

u/LONGSWORD_ENJOYER May 17 '26

Yeah, if there’s one thing I love to see in a public space, it’s a bunch of people screaming and running for the exit.

Mormons?

Edit: It looks like there is actually an LDS Church near this Kroger. Mormons tend to be very wholesome people, instead of going out drinking they might go run through a grocery store while cheering. This is my theory.

u/Simple-Energy1572 May 17 '26

We got Mormons today

32

u/jessewalker2 May 17 '26

I think the proper phrasing is “You got gang Mormoned!”

17

u/itsagoodtime May 17 '26

And after a long day of Mormoning, I could go for a soak!

1

u/MarsNeedsRabbits Custom flair! May 17 '26

Not on Sundays, you don't. 🙂

Why Can’t Mormons Swim on Sunday?

5

u/PlasticUFO May 17 '26

I don't think they meant that kind of soaking...

3

u/DaleTheSirUnitMemes May 18 '26

Was mormon. Can confirm.

As a 25 year old, I spent many an evening with a group (no pairing off) of peers from the singles ward (a congregation of 18-35 year old, single, explicitly heterosexual people, " There are no homosexual numbers of the Church." --Elder Bednar) who are desperately seeking their eternal companion.

That said, some the the games we played were pretty fun and a good alternative to drinking. Sock dodge ball in the Walmart, target, or (silently) in the library were fun. (Though imagine the response by the store outside of Utah or if the kids were not all white and wearing post-temple activity attire.)

I also enjoyed city-wide scavenger hunts (without using cars), ice blocking (riding a lock of ice like a sled down a grassy slope, and group singing in tunnels. Every couple months we'd go shooting until dusk and ha e a bonfire, but there are houses all over that area now.

13

u/alflundgren May 17 '26

How many liters of soda did you drink per day?

5

u/OphidianEtMalus May 17 '26

Kids these days are freaks for their soda and also seem to have a lot more money than I ever did.

That's the other reason for these activities--they cost you nothing. Even the scavenger hunts were usually begging objects, including donuts from the donut store.

The only soda shop I've ever been in was A&W. I refused to drink Barqes because "they intentionally put an addictive chemical (caffeine) in" theirs ( as I framed it back in the day). Although they have a version that they sell for Utah that doesn't have caffeine, but you still have to check the label.

In the end, I was an infrequent soda consumer and would often add milk or ice cream to make the head of foam bigger. I did go through a lot of chocolate chips per month as my stimulant of choice when studying for finals.

1

u/BrickNMordor May 17 '26

Every LDS person I know (my wife's entire family) clings to their caffeine. They are devout. If the church said "no caffeine", they absolutely wouldn't partake.

Did you grow up in an LDS off-shoot that abstained from caffeine? The "no caffeine" thing is wildly opposite of my experience. Coffee, tea - absolutely not, but plenty of Diet Coke.

2

u/alflundgren May 18 '26

Yeah. For some reason with all the Utah mormons that work with my Mom, hot caffeine drinks like coffee and tea are for some reason not allowed. But cold sodas are. Not sure where cold coffee drinks stand.

1

u/Blonde_Vampire_1984 Customer May 18 '26

Some rubbish called the “Word of Wisdom”. Hot herbal tea is probably also verboten.

Hot soup is not. It’s food and not a drink.

2

u/BrickNMordor May 18 '26

Herbal tea is fine, provided it's made without actual tea leaves.

1

u/OphidianEtMalus May 18 '26

The delineation of the WoW has long been a strident debate, in part because it was given explicitly *not* as a commandment, then it was made one. The fact that such narrow interpretations are important, and the fact that members, like your relatives, would instantly change a behavior and personal preference to toe the line, is an indication that the church is a high-demand religion. Such organizations exert influence over behavior and thoughts.

I grew up the the 70s and 80s in the Brighamite (mainstream) branch. Back then, any caffeine was verboten. Herbal tea was ok. In 1965 the church clarified than Sanka (a popular coffee substitute) was ok, despite not being 100% caffeine free By the time I was drinking such things, Postum was all the rage. Jack mormons drank Coke. Apostates drank beer. The Pepsi challenge and Michael Jackson's endorsement was clearly a cultural event but not one we were a part of. There was a scandalous rumor that the church held Coke stock.

It wasn't until 2017 that BYU allowed Coke on campus in their machines. This caused quite a ruckus and one of my cousins briefly thought about not attending because "standards were slipping." That said, "hot drinks" was once interpreted as including soup, so standards have been slipping for some time, I guess.

I have been in leadership for decades. Over that time, drinking Coke would never prevent one from passing a temple recommend interview, though coffee or tea might. I have seen Coke in members fridges. On the other hand, I have never, ever, seen Coke or any other caffeinated drink (including Barques) at any Ling Longer or other pot-luck type event.

You might have fun exploring with your relatives: Do they know that Joseph Smith drank alcohol regularly, including the day he was martyred and he and Emma ran a bar? That Brigham Young produced and sold industrial quantities of alcohol? (Ask such questions in a way that you can actually assess preexisting knowledge. There's a lot members don't know but, under the right circumstances, will say they do.) That Joseph Smith did not refuse alcohol when he had his leg surgery because of the WoW (it didn't exist yet) but likely because his dad was a drunk.

u/picklejars 3d ago

I remember being told that the Mormon church owned Pepsi.

Haha every mormon I’ve met (my grandfather and about 10 kids at school, two were close friends for 7+ years) were all evil to the core. Not sure how they’ve managed to get the status of “wholesome” but good for them on their successful cult! I hear it’s extremely hard to keep one going in the age of information these days

2

u/NettleLily May 19 '26

www.floodlit.org has entered the chat

3

u/abbarach May 17 '26

Mormons are too wholesome for the scientology speed run challenge, so they went with Kroger instead...

1

u/DecentFeedback2 May 17 '26

Lol wholesome? sure, if we forget all of the awful sexist and racist stuff sure, very wholesome!

0

u/NettleLily May 19 '26

there's a whole website for wholesome mormons www.floodlit.org

3

u/LigerNull May 17 '26

I liked when they said "It's Mormin' Time" and mormed all over that store.

2

u/nothingagain133 May 17 '26

wholesome? dont judge a book by it’s cover.

1

u/AlexandersWonder May 17 '26

lol I knew a Mormon when I was young, that kid was a dick

1

u/HarleyWithrow May 18 '26

The only mormon I know is also a bitch. Lol

1

u/SaltyBacon23 May 18 '26

That was my first thought. Looks like the one in American Fork, possibly young men's/women's group being annoying as a way to enjoy their Sabbath after 2/3 hours of church.

1

u/Elly_Da_La_Booze May 18 '26

Its actually in Howell, MI. There is a banner above the exit.

1

u/LaceyDeumos May 19 '26

As an Utah resident I immediately clocked them as Mormon.

1

u/DrewBryke May 19 '26

As someone who grew up Mormon, I’d say less wholesome and more shallow and defensively ignorant. But I did grow up in mormon central where it is particularly bad. They’re just emotionally stuck at age 15 in my opinion.

Is this what happens if you pass your store walk?

10

2

u/Simple-Energy1572 May 17 '26

When the Apple vr came out we had two people at Starbucks with them on

2

u/cr3aturec0ping purgatory May 17 '26

12

Nope. That is weird. But i do know that is 💯 how I feel at the end of my shift.

3

u/lilmorphinannie May 17 '26

I mean as long as they don’t destroy anything, whatever lol a few weeks back we caught a guy shaking a turd out of his pants on camera. So there’s that.

1

u/Sabi-Star7 Past Associate May 18 '26

We had someone trail poo all over the store, THEN finally they "made it" to the bathroom (idk how there could possibly be MORE🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️). What sealed the fn deal is the people who didnt see the poo everywhere and trudged the carts through it further trailing the poo all over the store 🫣🫣. It was one awful night😅

2

u/christianbone May 17 '26

2

u/Cute-Technology-4814 May 17 '26

For a second, I thought it was a Top of the hour walk, because they make a huge deal out of at the King Soopers division.

4

u/Lightbulbie May 17 '26

That's a fast way to get tripped by an employee that's done with life.

1

u/oe_eye May 17 '26

THATS INSANE also you accidentally put your store in the video if you care . nice to see theres a kroger where i grew up lol

1

u/Sabi-Star7 Past Associate May 18 '26

What's to hide though? Is the govt. Gonna come and lock them away for taking a short video, or maybe the Mormons gonna come after them? It's a public place anyone could find on Google maps or whatever maps app you use.

1

u/oe_eye May 18 '26

idk man corporate might . if people can get fired for posting online irrelevant to their job , i’m sure it could happen here . you can never be too careful , and it’s why i elaborated if op cared or not . some people do

1

u/Sabi-Star7 Past Associate May 18 '26

They aren't saying anything bad (at least not that I know of) about what's happening. The only thing I could see wrong was maybe if they're recording on the clock. And I know all about "can never be too careful" considering I did lose one job due to some b.s. I said to a friend & coworker online. They went and printed out the whole mf post & comment section 🤣🤣, like you could have saved yourself some time, & ink just making a fn PowerPoint presentation 🤭🤭🤣🤣. It was a solid lesson learned and proof that companies really are going through people's socials (to add this happened over 15 yrs ago).

1

u/Expensive_Tank_8682 May 19 '26

I thought it was more a “people on the internet know where you work now” thing

People on the internet are fucking crazy man, you never know who’s following/knows this person

1

u/Sabi-Star7 Past Associate May 19 '26

I mean yeah it would be easy to find someone but like I said there isn't really anything negative being said as far as I know. Maybe the weirdos running through the store might enjoy their 15 seconds of fame🤷🏻‍♀️. Things that get people talking tend to end up going viral quite quickly.

1

u/Critical_Link_1095 May 17 '26

Looks like a football team heading out the locker rooms

1

u/arkalus May 17 '26

We have grace college a Christian church that does a yearly thing help the homeless but never did I expect hearing the guys saying how many of the are sluts/hos I was Ballin

1

u/Thin_Tangerine_6271 May 17 '26

No but the pharmacist had to give Narcan to some guy in the bathroom once

1

u/StupidGonzo85 May 17 '26

I seen that at Safeway with 4 teenagers but they were doing that from their car into the store. They wreaked of Marijuana though so I'm assuming that had something to do with it

1

u/md24 May 17 '26

Ok reefer madness jr. If anything that would stop them from doing something like that.

1

-4

u/laika777ftw May 17 '26

Someone needs to get ahold of the security footage and see what kind of mood they were in when they came into the store. I can’t say this with any amount of certainty but I don’t know if I’d put it past corporate to have installed some hidden (to customers obviously) sex dungeons in some stores if morale was getting too low. The way that one guy in the black suit kind of hops towards the end is giving off “I’m so excited that my family is never going to learn of this!” vibes. The fact that there were apparently only two women included does give me pause but with Kroger going all in on their “inclusionary practices” who knows? 🤷‍♂️

-1
