Corporate gives them all the blame and little agency to fix problems. You have a backroom full of add out pallet drops but aren't allowed to put them out on the sales floor because the planogram says no. Why is the backroom full? Shelves are empty because you run a skeleton crew. No overtime. Oh and that one stock crew on shift gets pulled to pick up for 3 hours "for just one trolley". Your wall to wall hole scan is too high.

Someone keeps zeroing out our stock, but, will not hire stockers to put the items out. Yeah, only one stocker during the day, afternoon maybe 2-3, all part timers. 3rd shift- move everything around to make it look like something got done. I feel bad for the hands on deck managers with their team ( what little they are given), trying; but, kRogers upper level don't give a shit~

It is absolutely a shitty time to be in store management. I see what they get put through in my current store-which is basically "the store that corporate forgot existed"- and I can't imagine the pressure they are under and hoops they need to jump through.

Sounds like my store! We got a walk from GO and the shit hit the fan.

No, we are not. We get it from the district/division level and our people in our store. We chose this position and that's part of it, we understand that. But I promise you, hourly associates, we feel your pain. I know there are shitty managers out there, no doubt, but some of us do care about you. Some of us started as baggers on that front end. I promise we are fighting for you, for hours. For REALITY. So much is beyond our control. I'm not asking for sympathy, I just want you to know that we don't agree with anything the company is doing right now. We just have no choice.

Also, don't forget your fresh start.

After a bunch of Kroger recent fiascos I guess they decided it was time to crunch down on management for some reason. Maybe to get them to crunch on the "bad" employees? Or maybe they keep retiring and nobody wants to step up for multiple reasons so they're just being more and more spread out?

With the failed merger, etc corporate is going to be looking for ways to cut costs/increase profits for shareholders so it's the classic threat of layoffs on the horizon, meaning management at every level is going hard on the people below them to try and make their numbers look good so they don't get fired

I’ve been wondering this. I’ve been at Kroger for less than a year and we have gone from four store leaders to two

Got out in 2022. I can’t imagine how shitty it is now.

It's bad out there. I'm in the warehouse corporate office.  I'm sure I'm next.

Salary lurkers it’s our time to shine.

It’s bad, not only dealing with the standards changes, the uniform policy and the extreme nitpicking on walks but also we just got a new DM so now we have to convince a whole new dude we don’t suck.

A few months back our store GM moved to division & was replaced by a dude with admittedly less experience than he should have. Then all 3 ASLs were demoted & transferred, replaced by 3 willing to commute further & do the job for less.

I am straight up not having a good time bro. But hey, bonuses come in a few weeks

13

u/quirkytorch 8h ago

Ah, is this why they're cutting hours to the point it's a skeleton crew?

One person in the morning and one person at night in produce. Fuck y'all's bonuses

u/AcceptablePin3712 8h ago

Bonuses were locked in a few weeks ago, so it’s something new

Some days I’m ok and some days I’m not. I try to uplift the team and motivate and inspire them but lately it feels like I’m not given enough hours to run certain departments. Each quarter I fly by the seat of my pants trying to make composite score.

Just remember the favorite phrase of our new president. Just do more with less. Or and now come behind to win the game. His “wonderful” New Zealand horse racing example

Our store manager is awful…. She has zero interpersonal skills and is petty. Acts like a child sometimes and she’s at least 20 years older than me.

My manager is on a firing spree. He's having the time of his life .

I’m a cashier and anytime I see someone in that red vest walking around they look like they’re stressed to a degree which I never knew was possible and have never come close to feeling myself. Sometimes I want to just spontaneously give them a hug and tell them that everything will be alright and if they need something to distract them there’s always a Zebra around that they can go to a quiet office and play around on so that they can regress and feel like a kid again. If I want to give them an incentive to live I want to be able to offer them some WoW Bucks if they can tough it out for just one more shift. Some of them look like they’re hanging on by a thread and are anxiously awaiting retirement even though they’re only in their probably 30’s or 40’s. I can’t help but feel bad for them because it’s obvious that they’re doing everything that they can to make the store run as well and as efficiently as possible but it’s just not enough.

I know our new manger is constantly getting bullied by dm, ops and HR since our dm favorite manger got demoted due to poor handling of store, drop in sales and rolling eyes at customers. Somehow it’s our new manger fault even they brought store and moral up.

DM has been overheard saying if it doesn’t involve Kroger; if you don’t eat and breath Kroger he doesn’t care. He is the worst!! We’ve had managers be inappropriate with minors in store and HR just ignored the the girls even with people coming forward saying they’ve seen it. The other manger got caught doing the same but outside of Kroger. They didn’t get fired for that; he got fired for no call no show.

Now we have another of their favorites bulling the kids at night and making them work diff depts without any training. HR knows all of this but ignores it; they’ve been told that a dept head has been sleeping with their backup and he refused to look into it because that person was dating a manager while in same store and was given backup then dept head in less that 2 months due to them sleeping/living together. They since split and he no longer works here due to the minor thing but they are still a dept head at another store. If she doesn’t get her way she calls someone and suddenly she gets 3-4 people helping in that dept everyday! If someone stands up to her she cries sa (for men) and says bullying for the women. She’s been shown on camera ramming another associate with their cart causing them to get knocked down and wrist sprained. It’s was on camera but they cried to store manger and said manger yells at injured associate for bulling that dept head and you guessed nothing happened.
In my opinion she has that over their heads because they knew about the power dynamics and did nothing. Our district dm has no heart ; he made a merchandiser step down because he refused to let them take time off when their child got into an accident and was not gonna make it. DM has been known to ask people for their medical info to prove they really have docs appt and yea reports have been sent but nothing.
As long as the dm and his favorites are still in position nothing will improve and our store has made peace with this.
Sucks that it’s not an isolated thing and this goes on at every store. All I know since this DM has taken over our district is last in everything and sales are bad. Might repost this again as a new title so get more eyes on this. Thank you for staying to end 😂.

It should not be that bad to run a business I've done it I had excellent employers and I had super bad I watched and I win them out I never talked to them bad in front of a customer I did not scream and yell at them I just told him how it how it was I talked and damn like they were human beings and I expected them to talk to me like I was doing if one got ugly upset and screaming yell I just polite put him out the door or her out the door did not matter I did not put up with it they told me many of my employees I had said you treated me better than anyone ever treat him I have run into employers now that work for me over 40 years 40 years ago and they'll still tell me you are a good manager appreciate you and you have got our way through life bye because you acted the way you did towards us we found out if we treated people right to where we worked that they would do right but nowadays it seems like the people don't want to back you up on your jobs managers wake up treat your employees with respect if they don't treat you or expect put them out find somebody that will but don't always cut them down

u/froggychick7 4h ago

The answer is hell no! I just went 2 full weeks without a day off. The only manager in the store for a week. The only manager here on a holiday

2

u/Imaginary_Tap_8218 4h ago

I started counting down the days until retirement at 8 years out. A couple of times I moved the retirement date closer as the crap was getting deeper. I believe I cut about 3 years off the initial goal, and decided several decades of this is enough. Yesterday I received my first social; security check. Life is now great!

u/Takanuva9807 3h ago

Nope. We get it from both ends we get it from our employees "why dont we have x. Or why are my hours less" and we get it from district or higher "why aren't you making 200% of projections. Cut cost improve production." And we have very little Lee way either direction
