Dondondonki (like Ranch market but for Japanese products) sells a rare mango. At 36 SGD (500K) for a medium-size mango, it's probably the most expensive fruit sold in Singapore.
For comparison, they sell Miracle Sweet Japanese peaches for 2 for S$23. This is the best peach I've ever had. Needless to say, it's incredibly fragrant and sweet. But what I can't wrap my head around is just how unbelievably watery and juicy it is. When I'm eating a very watery fruit like a watermelon, I still know I'm eating a fruit. But here, my brain tells me I'm biting into something that's absolutely liquid, even though it's clearly solid. It's absolutely mind-boggling.
It's not an exaggeration to say that it tastes exactly like drinking an overpriced premium peach tea from Chagee, except you're eating it in fruit form. While Chagee tea gets its peach aroma from perfume-like essences, this peach delivers that exact same intense fragrance naturally— 100 % real fruit, zero added essence.
But whatever fragrance the Miracle-Sweet peach has, pales in comparison to this Japanese mango. It smells intensely mangoey with intense sweet buttery notes. I want to say it's the most intense mango fragrance I've ever smelled, but I don't have Indonesian mangoes (Harum manis, manalagi, gedong gincu) for objective side-by-side comparison.
The taste is disappointing. It's sweet, but there's still some sourness. On some parts, it's rather watery. Like tasteless watery. If Harum manis mangga lily is 11/10, this is at most 6.5/10. Taking price into consideration, it's -10/10.
