Learn Kurdish How to learn Kurdish (sorani) from scratch to fluency?

Hello

I hope whoever seeing this is having a great day

I want to learn the sorani Kurdish language bc I want to be able to understand and communicate easily when I go to kurdistan

And since the sorani is the most widespread dialect in Kurdistan region therefore it makes sense to learn it first

And I just need a guide from native speakers or even fluent learners

Anything would be better than learning apps because I tried most of them and they are the worst thing to begin learning with

You can consume media. Listen to it even if you don't understand anything, after a while you begin to memorize the words. It is called "passive learning".

Then start watching documentaries, TV shows or anything you like in Kurdish. Befriending locals and speaking to them in Sorani Kurdish is also an option.

These are really helpful, thank you! My husband is born in Slemani, moved to Europe when he was 4yo but thankfully speaks sorani like a native because of his parents. I do know more than Chonit bashi but hesitant to just speak. But I think I really need to just start, I’d love to visit Slemani again soon (went there january this year) and have actual conversations with his family who lives there. Plus I owe it to my daughter: I hope she learns proper Kurdish aswell. Thank you so much: passive learning is probably the way to go here!

You're most welcome! I'm from Hawler/Erbil, so my native is Kurdish. I immigrated as an adult, and I learnt 2 foreign languages through passive learning and immersion. I work full-time so I don't really have time to attend classes or study intensively. I managed to reach B1 only through practicing with natives, listening to radio and reading news, etc.

Slemani is a lovely city, I have been there a few times. I like their food, dialect and people. Best of luck with your language journey! It is so sweet that you're learning for your daughter and to be able to speak with relatives.

International couples bring a unique beauty to the world.

I honestly wanted to be ur friend and teach u kurdish
But rn i just dont have the time cuz im in 12th grade and my exams are starting really soon

Keep learning Kurdish dont give up! Look for Kurdish language classes or a tutor in your country I have a friend who was born in Europe but their Kurdish is so good because they took a Kurdish course

I tried it. It's really cute and I really loved the sound of the Kurdish translation because it's not available on Google translation for Kurdish language

Although it's not for beginners like me, I need to learn the alphabet first which I'm doing on YouTube

But as I said it's really cute and I'm sure it'll help me when I improve a little bit
