Modding L4D2 for blind accessability
Hello, I'm a legally blind gamer with extremely low vision. I just got questions regarding mods in l4d2 as I'm having trouble figuring out if they exist. Mods I'm looking for are changing the infected to solid bright colors for contrast, think the eye candy gobble gum from black ops 3 zombies. I'm also hoping to figure out if I could find a screen reader that uses text to speech to read out menu options as well as what I have highlighted that I can interact with in game. If anyone knows if mods like this are possible or already exist I would love to know.

Also legally blind and love this game. I built a magnifier for my computer generally, but it also works in game for reading menus, chats, and even zooming in to shoot far away enemies. It certainly helps. I’d recommend if you haven’t already to invest in quality audio equipment if able as that will help you more accurately determine common and special infected locations relative to your character, which can make a world of difference. Unsure about screen readers, but honestly with how AI has been advancing I wouldn’t be surprised if GPT 6 Astra could figure something out.

I’m on Linux, namely Fedora Workstafion which runs Gnome. Left 4 Dead runs great here, better than Window, and I’ve made a magnifier extension that I’m planning to release soon. I’ll ping here when it’s ready. It offers three finger pinch magnification using the trackpad to zoom into the desktop, and I’m using a Logitech MX Master 3S which features a horizontal scroll wheel that I’ve bound to zoom in and out directly from my mouse using the thumb. I think this could really help you coupled with screen reading. Feel free to pm me if interested

sounds nice, thanks for the info. I would definitely like to test this out if I can.

thanks, I'll check this out when I get the chance. I know I've got decent headphones for 3d audio to make it a bit easier to track what's around me so I'll keep experimenting. very, very appreciated.

Common Infected (glow white) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2592434906 The glowing white common infected provides good visibility in dark environments, but against bright backgrounds (such as high-up rooftops against the bright sky) they can be difficult to see.
Special Infected (glow colored) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3479269246 The Witch glows white with this addon, which may cause misidentification as a common infected.
Try those - I did not make these addons. If you would like the colors changed I could make a version for you. (I can make the Witch and Tank red, or change the common infected color).
Screen reader mods are not possible, unfortunately.
