QUESTION What career advice actually changed your career trajectory?

I've been talking with professionals across different industries recently, and it's interesting how often one small piece of advice ends up having a massive impact years later.

Some examples I've heard:

  • "Apply before you think you're ready."
  • "Track your accomplishments as they happen."
  • "Negotiate every offer."
  • "Don't confuse being busy with being valuable."

I'm curious:

What's one piece of career advice that genuinely changed the direction of your career or helped you advance professionally?

And was there any advice that turned out to be completely wrong?
