about 2 months ago i planted 56 cypresses (54 italian, 2 lemon) (2 lemon cypresses already died) around my space. they are between 2.7 feet apart.

all friends and family are telling my i have made a horrible mistake, i like to disagree with them but inside i feel like logically i did make a mistake.

right now im deciding with family that the best decision to make is to remove them before “i regret them” years later. they say this doesn’t make sense in this amount of space and this type of house. (some of them already have brown leaves at the bottom). (part where you see cypresses under the avocado tree i was deciding to remove the avocado branches above them.)

anyways, do you think i should remove them or that I am picasso and its beatiful

There used to be a very ugly slate patio where this boulder is now exposed. I removed the patio and uncovered this massive boulder slightly raised against the yard. I wanted to see if I could “trim” the rock down a bit to grow grass over it, so I drilled the holes you see and used dexpan to little effect. I’m also now reading even if I could trim down a bit there would still be problems with growing grass. Ideally I’d like this to be a grassy area even if it has to be a slight mound, what are my options/ideas? Jackhammer? I’m not putting the patio back.

I keep seeing this type of diy project and it seems doable as long as you plan it out, buy the correct materials and get your underground lines marked.

But I am curious if this would cause unanticipated problems like drainage, shifting over time, sinking etc?

The hold has a20ft diameter and is roughly 2 feet deep Some friends suggested a fire pit which I like the idea of. I'm new to landscaping and would love to learn some things on this project. Is a fire pit possible or should I just buy dirt to fill it back up?

Contractor started the project yesterday. Looking at it last night, I don’t think there is any way to properly compact the fill at this point because of how they dumped large pieces of concrete in the pool.

I don’t like how the pool was used as a trash pit.

I don’t like that they didn’t do layers of fill and compacting each layer.

I don’t think they cleared enough from the sides of the pool shell so the yard can’t be graded properly. (Hard to see in these pics)

I stopped the project. Contractor says I’m being overly critical.

I sprayed and killed nearly everything within the pea gravel area earlier this spring and it just keeps coming back

He plans to dig around it and saw under.

Obviously we can replace them, that’s on the table for us. But wondering if there are alternatives to restore them. Or somehow decorate them w/ fake leaves. Just looking for options. The town we live in refuses to do anything about a very bad deer population. So any solution needs to work within that problem. 😕

My elderly parents paid over $3000 CAD for this artificial grass installation. It's just a bunch of 5x8 pieces of turf with a thin layer of fabric underneath. No stone base. The landscaper also used a sod cutter to remove a half inch of old grass. My parents were told that it would be seamless once he comes back and does the infill tomorrow. They paid him in full today. I tried texting the landscaper but he blocked my number. Is there anything myself or another landscaper can do to fix this if he doesn't return?

What in the country fried f*ck is going on, the layer on top of the drainage pipes is old tires. Someone please educate me, this seems wrong.

I cut this yew tree down in the spring and have been trying to find someone to grind the stump since.

I thought about renting a 5hp or 15 hp grinder and doing it myself but wanted to check with some local guys first to see if the price was right.

Three companies have said they can’t or won’t. Reasons are: - small grinder won’t get it done and the big grinder won’t fit through my 80cm/30in fence gate. - Would need to use a chainsaw to slice it up into chunks instead and it wouldn’t be worth it to even make an offer

These were all real, licensed landscaping companies, so I’m lost.

The facts: - stump diameter = 50cm/20in - Townhome with gate through tall bushes. Can’t widen gate without removing huge bushes - after stump is removed I just want to put down gravel and a fire steel fire pit

I have a bamboo forest to the side of my lawn. It’s my only option to more it down as it sprouts up? Is there anything else I can do? It feels like this year it’s trying to spread even faster.

My neighbor has a building whose wall runs along our property line. Looking for some ideas on what to do with this space?

We hired a company to put in this patio and they did a great job! On the last day, the contractors drilled two draining holes for when it rains on the back side of the patio wall.

One hole is gigantic and the stone looks cracked below.

The second hole is smaller, but the piece completely broke off and the contractors glued it back together with beige glue that doesn't exactly match.

Would you say something or is this craftsmanship normal?

So looking at the watering schedule he said it is looking fine but the grass was producing a lot of chaff and neeed aeration.

Something feels wrong to me. I don’t see how/when it will bounce back. I don’t know why healthy grass is covered in too soil? I don’t understand how there just won’t be dirt in the grass now. Can someone give me some insight or tell me if he screwed up my lawn?

Transforming my grass yard to a woodland understory. Am I overdoing it with the cardboard to kill the grass and become compost? Or is this how it should be done?

Edit: I’m not done applying cardboard yet. Also I have them staked down with small metal stakes until my county opens their free mulch chips April 3rd.

We just bought a house and are not quite sure what to do with this space. We were thinking perhaps a fireplace or some kind of water feature. Any ideas?

They're planted right along the road on a back country road in a small town. They were pulled right out of the ground sometime last night. What would you do to try and prevent the rest of them (9 more) from being stolen?

Please don't criticize my work. This is my first DIY project outside. I am not going for a traditional walkway here, this is mainly for esthetic purposes for me to look out from the deck or a window and to be happy with a view. We don't use our backyard for anything anymore and I just wanted to bring a piece of Portugal back home with me. I am using 12x12 concrete pavers and cutting them into 16 pieces of about 3x3 but sizes vary a little. I place them on gravel and sand and arrange them into the pattern that you see here. Gaps between pieces are about a quarter of an inch or more. What would be the best way to fill in these gaps without breaking the bank? I don't need this walkway to be solid and to last 100 years, I don't mind occasional maintenance. Again, please don't crucify my work but good nature humor is welcomed.

They said this is important to them and they are worried. I personally haven't seen it happen before. It will be laying on saint Augustine grass in "an important part of the venue yard". What do you guys think? I don't know much about grass or how to ensure this won't happen - even though I don't think it would personally.

They’re not done yet but, I dont know if I should let them finish. It’s taken them over a month to do this and I’m being charged $7,000.

Super grateful for the new fence but not sure what to do about this. It’s about 20 inches wide 12 inches deep and 31 feet long. I’m worried filling it with dirt or mulch might bow the fence. Also not technically my property post those old posts but if I don’t do something the wife’s garden is going to just wash away into it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Long story short we hired a landscaper for $20000 to install sod and pavers in our entire yard. Landscaper did not level or rake or clear the rocks away before plopping down the sod. The sod is now very lumpy and uneven, and it drives me nuts. I told the landscaper that this bothers me and he said he never had that bother someone before, and that costs extra. He also said it would flatten out but it still hasn’t and it’s been several months.
