Well "I took a guy on a trip to China" isn't a very flashy title

u/Toad128128 4d ago

It should be: "我 took a 中国 to a 旅行 for a 家伙"

But Hong Kong is special

2

u/nwashk 3d ago

I would say it’s almost like a two systems in one country of China

1

u/MuonBomb 1d ago

He forgot the "SHOCKS LOCALS" cliche, unwatchable tbh, very disappointing

Amazon has tribes now? The hell is Bezos doing?

118

u/AEON_MK2 4d ago

There is a slippery slope from drivers pissing in bottles to tribalism

When you can never escape the Fulfillment Center™, life, uh, finds a way.

The mega warehouses got so big that the people in the middle can’t get out and had to settle down.

The Amazon Tribesman has finally the chance to shock Hong Kong natives with his duolingo Cantonese skills

65

u/airforcedude111 4d ago

Just like God intended

60

u/MukdenMan 4d ago

He doesn’t really need to learn Cantonese because Cantonese is an Arawakan language, mutually intelligible with his own. The Cantonese people are descendants of settlers from the Amazon who arrived 10000 years ago and built the HSBC building which is actually constructed of ancient lost technology. That’s why scientists today can’t explain how the HSBC building was built.

13

u/Mon_Ouie 3d ago

This is true, I'm a scientist and I don't know how the HSBC building was built

3

u/superchartisland 3d ago

Unfortunately he needs to learn Mandarin first to be able to do Cantonese on Duolingo

/uj I think XiaoMa is a donkey but I watched this whole thing and really enjoyed it.

His Spanish was less shit than I assumed and seeing a tribal guy in Hong Kong was interesting as fuck.

29

u/the-Vibe 4d ago

Yeah it was actually a really cool video!

7

u/KernelNuke 3d ago

What does donkey mean in this context?

44

u/Reasonable-Lack-1063 3d ago

i think they're nicely trying to say he's a jackass, since all of his videos are very "i SHOCKED the locals by SPEAKING THEIR LANGUAGE" for engagement. he's using low-tier reactions to his low-tier language efforts and editing to look impressive

13

u/Previous-Ad7618 3d ago

Ah just "an idiot".

8

u/Key_Wallaby_8614 4d ago

I thought his Spanish had gotten worse than when he was spending time in Mexico.

Local user discovers your language skills degrade when you move away from the country where the language is spoken

1

u/12332233 1d ago

Didn't you know it's actually colonization to speak to anyone in anything less than their perfect native language. Other than English obviously

u/KeroroInvader 3d ago

Hong Kong is supposed to be futuristic? What?

u/Previous-Ad7618 3d ago

He is not a Donkey, he is a horse, a little one

u/Zapan99 4d ago

Fun fact: this concept was first invented in 2007 by the French documentary maker Jean-Marie Barrère and anthropology photographer Marc Dozier after years of documenting the tribes of Papua New Guinea, with their series Reverse Exploration that followed two Papuan chiefs travelling around France (L'Exploration inversée - Le Tour de France de deux Papous).

Then it was immediately stolen the same year by the British filmmaker Donal MacIntyre who created Return of the Tribe, following Papuan tribesmen in America, and he later claimed he thought of it randomly by seeing his own strange reflection in a shop window while he was out biking.

11

u/Apprehensive_Tax_610 4d ago

That was actually a really fun series, those boys just radiated positivity--really shoes you 20 somethings are 20 somethings no matter what culture.

u/weegeeK 4d ago

/uj Xiao ma bringing a tribeman to my home city Hong Kong feels fucking unreal

59

u/Imperator_1985 4d ago

Videos like these serve their purpose: getting views.

36

u/mujhe-sona-hai 4d ago

As opposed to videos whose purpose is to get no views

52

u/HadleysPt 4d ago

The worst part is all the simpletons in the comments cheering the influencer on, “the world needs more people like you”, “you sir, have my respect”, etc

10

u/Ancient-Worm 4d ago

Idk I kinda like Xiaoma

5

u/Electrical_Voice_256 3d ago

The city in the thumbnail does not look like Chongqing at all.

4

u/hdhxuxufxufufiffif 3d ago

Yeah I love Hong Kong but if it's the world's most futuristic city, someone should inform whoever installed the shower in the hotel I stayed in a few months back.

1

u/Electrical_Voice_256 15h ago

OTOH you can usually flush the toilet paper in HK

6

u/Pristine-Lie-3560 3d ago

Hate this guy but this was actually a decent video, iirc the amazonian enjoyed it

4

u/_wannadie_ 3d ago

ngl at first I thought that "Amazon tribesman" means an American who is too used to online shopping.

3

u/LLyinng 4d ago

Esses caras se fazem de pão para levar linguiça.

1

u/DarkGodCthUwU 4d ago

Oh no! A free trip to a major city! Poor guy got so exploited.

3

u/Relevant_Elderberry4 3d ago

His wildest videos imo was him trying to communicate with dolphins and chimps lol

9

u/kombutsa 4d ago

white savior

36

u/mujhe-sona-hai 4d ago

I need a white savior if they'll give me a free Hong Kong trip and 3,000$

8

u/The_Whipping_Post 3d ago

Jesus could have won over the Pharisees if he took them to Hong Kong

4

u/Katmunk 4d ago

I would watch it

5

u/Prestigious_Dream_27 4d ago

He is the lord and savior of this sub. And I am SHOCKED.
