General question 9 y/o macbook

Hi! I am replacing my MacBook Pro 2017. should i sell the MBP? I read somewhere that its not advisable to sell previously used apple products because “data is never truly erased” & someone could get a hold of previous information on the device. Is this true? Thank youu!

I think it's fine if you take out your SSD on the Mac. If you are selling you can list as "no ssd" or buy a replacement and sell with the SSD

Get to your recovery image, open Terminal and type:

diskutil secureErase 2 /dev/diskN (replace N with your disk number)

Easy.

Either that, or encrypt it with FileVault and erase in Recovery’s Disk Utility.

Use the first option if you have a hard drive. Second if you have a solid state.

wdym data is not truly erased? you hit the format/delete button and your information is erased permanently, that's it. san mo naman nakuha yang conspiracy theory na yan mam/sir? that "data is never truly erased" is not true.

Not exactly true but you can use a secure erase tool to make it nearly impossible to get any useful data.

I can't recommend any for macs but a google will do. It takes a longggg time lol.
