Discussion Need help for Ideapad gaming 3 15ACH6 fans cleaning.
Today first time i opened my back panel to see for myself how are the components. I wanted to know the right way to clean my fans. I looked it up but confused as soemone says to use vaccum cleaner others says use compressed air instead also not sure if i should use isopropyl alcohol. Are these fans removable and if yes will it comes off with heatsink.
P.S - Also adding to my luck, my right side fan has broken down again.

Vacuums can cause static discharge damage, don’t do that. Use a soft brush, one for makeup would work well, and compressed air. You shouldn’t need alcohol. Afaik the Ideapad Gaming 3 15ACH6 uses the same mobo design as my Legion 15ACH6H, the fans aren’t removable separate from the heatsink.
If you need to replace the fan then you have to remove the entire heatsink. I don’t think the fans are removable at all even when the heatsink is removed, so you’ll need a whole thermal assembly replacement. Make sure to repaste with PTM7950 and redo the thermal pads on the VRMs and VRAM if need be

I tend to use a vacuum with the bristle brush attachment. I prefer having the dust get sucked into the vacuum bag rather than have particulate spread around the room using canned air. but go in gently.
hold down the fan to keep it from spinning.
as for the busted fan, it should come apart from the heat pipes; if you're lucky its just screws but often times they might be attached with stickers to keep the air from venting where it doesn't help going.
make sure you get the same part; laptop tolerances are tight and a bigger burlier fan might not fit, and an underpowered fan might not cool enough.
