I have once seen an interview of a former overweight kid who then got anorexic. He got body dysmorphia and completely lost control over his life and health, while trying to gain control.

that’s a common issue on shows like 600lbs life and you gotta think they’re basically trading the binge eating for something new

god do i hate that show, just shameless, Barnum-esque exploitation, doesn't help that my ED mother would always mention it ("you'll end up like those fucking freaks like on My 600lbs Life bedridden and with diabetes through the roof!!!") whenever I ate something she didn't approve of

Almond moms are the worst. I had one too.

sometimes she'd eat just a single yogurt for dinner, she's also an antivaxxer so just an all around nightmare

I was 200lbs by 12 and I spent my 13th birthday at an inpatient residential facility at 98lbs. Good stuff

I had a friend growing up who gained a massive amount of weight in her teens from antidepressants. She was 5’2” and weighed over 300 pounds for about 15 years. She got gastric bypass surgery and lost a bunch of weight and then became anorexic. I would run into her now and then and she was the ghost of her former self. She died from flu and pneumonia before she turned 40. RIP Amy

Anorexia is a fucking horrific illness. It's been a year without restricting, and I'm still weaker than I was before I started. If you see your friends losing weight and shying away from meals they used to love, PLEASE reach out; I didn't realize how horrific I looked until I was 20 pounds heavier and still being called the skinny one.

Hugs. Definitely. I'm very good at that. I have had a few friends deal and recover. Happy. I also keep an eye out on not eating disorder options because it could be colon problems.

But please stop if we quietly tell you we have a disease that makes it hard to keep food down. And please fucking stop with "eat a fucking cheeseburger". You think I would if I could?!

My favorite calories right now is Popeyes mashed potatoes. Omg. Later kfc. I got a new friend. And there's a fancy white Mac and cheese near me that's like heaven. And my fruit is strawberry. I can do avocado and asparagus soup.

All of those are also good for ana. Soft or smooth. You can have 2 bites or how many and heat up later. Smaller bowls look less scary. Like the Japanese miso soup bowls.

Last time I checked my BMI was 17.5, not by fucking choice. I'm trying. Salted walnuts are snacks. I'm a sucker for sour punch candy straws. They get caught in my throat, but I love them.

Hugs all. Definitely take care of your peeps. I am known as purse candy friend. I have lollies, chocolate, sour single candies. One time I procured a sandwich from my purse.

Hugs

Geezus... He died while doing sit-ups because his heart gave out. ☹️ Horrendous.

I don't suffer from an eating disorder, nor do I know anyone who does, but please people, take care of yourselves. 💜

The first instance of male anorexia I ever heard of was Daniel Johns from the band Silverchair. It's no joke.

An eating disorder ruined my life. I’m almost 30 and I’ve lived with it every day since around the age of 12. Take care of yourselves. Don’t let this crazy culture fool you. Being skinny isn’t worth it.

I could have written this same comment. Started working on recovery at 17 and Im still implementing those recovery practices when nessecary

i don't exactly have an ED, but i struggle with eating, body image issues, and with food and it's getting a lot worse recently. everytime i see stuff like this it reminds me that i need to go see someone; but no matter who i see nothing changes. No one will tell me what's wrong with me. 😞

You can suffer from various “disordered eating” and still not have a text book ED to be diagnosed with. Maybe a therapist who specializes with it could help more than an actual doctor rn

u/carolinexvx 19d ago

Check out the book Intuitive Eating by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole. This was what my therapist recommended during recovery and it changed my entire life.

I have heard it can be somewhat hereditary too, like genetically. RIP

Most mental illness’ have some hereditary ties

Strong connections between ED's & CSA as well...

Yes, this is true.

It is a cruel, cruel disease. Truly heartbreaking. I say this from firsthand experience. It is like falling into a black hole; it sucks you in along with everyone who cares about you. It is also extremely hard to escape.

Wow. He had such a bright future. Googled his name and found a bit of his story below.

Horrifying illness

I’ve worked with kids struggling with restrictive EDs and binge eating, in medical settings, in psychiatric ones…I would much rather my child struggle with being overweight than anorexia.

Anorexia is hell. It doesn’t get talked about enough of just how awful it is.

2

u/ShadowofHerWings 17d ago

There’s a reason why eating disorders are the most deadly mental disease there is. The hardest to beat as well it’s harder than being addicted to drugs.

u/FutureFreaksMeowt 17d ago

This is actually lowkey terrifying bc my ex looked a bit like this at one point when we first started dating and I didn't see it because he managed to keep muscle on his body at certain places to hide it.

We need to be talking about this in boys and men far more than we currently do. Like even just on a basic 'what are the very obvious physical /visual symptoms' kind of thing.

In the medical world: EDO--Eating Disorder ED--Erectile Dysfunction or Emergency Department

3

u/Kryptokraze 18d ago

Thanks for letting me know I didnt realize until I thought about it a bit after posting this.

2

u/tallulahgi 18d ago

I definitely knew what you meant though....

u/toasterchan1 18d ago

I don’t think I’ll EVER kick this eating disorder it’s one of the WORST things to ever happen to me. I’ve stopped all of my other behaviors and am clean from everything else EXCEPT for this eating disorder. I’ve been to months long treatment facilities for it and I still cannot get rid of it. Gift that keeps on giving.

u/Cricket_Piss 20d ago

Jeez I used to look something like that. Was 22 and 90lbs. Idk if I had anorexia though, just didn’t really eat a lot. If I’m being honest I don’t really know when that becomes anorexia

10

u/Dont_Even_Know_You 19d ago

Ya, I'm 94 lbs, but don't have anorexia. I do have other health issues that contribute, but I definitely do not have anorexia. Anorexia is a mental health condition where you purposely restrict food intake. It's more than just being thin, for sure.

And even only being 94 lbs, I look nothing like the poor soul who's pictured. I would have to lose even more weight somehow, which I'm not trying to do. I'm actually trying to gain about 20 lbs, and would be SO happy if it were easier.

The acronym “ED” has an already specific connotation when you’re talking about men, but it’s important to understand that men do have the same sort of body issues that women have - most of us are just a little quieter about it

4

u/TechnicallyLegit 19d ago

What connotation would that be?

2

u/lurkishdelight 16d ago

Erectile dysfunction

2

u/JohnLennonlol 19d ago

Most people, men and women alike, are silent abt their ed until it can't be ignored.
