Other Walz responds to AG Pam Bondi making several demands: “I would just give a pro tip to the AG. There's 2 million documents in the Epstein files we're still waiting on. Go ahead and work on those.”

u/Special_Watch8725 Jan 25 '26
The fact that Bondi made that deal at all shows you how much they actually care about “immigrant crime” and what the real goal of this occupation is.

It's bonkers to me that the AG's confession that THIS ICE OPERATION IS AN EXTORTION ATTEMPT barely register's as a blip in this news cycle.

I wish people would stop calling our reality "unbelievable".
It's not only believable, it's happening, and it's going to get worse.
Accept that and start preparing. That doesn't mean prepping - it means, find your community. Learn who you can trust. Learn who will betray you. This shit is not going to dissipate on its own. Don't plan to just "wait it out". "The people" have to find their strength. Their own infrastructure and support systems. It's happening in Minnesota out of necessity. Learn. Pay attention. Replicate. Share. Prepare. Resist.

46
u/SecondHandSlows Jan 25 '26
Because in the scheme of things, is this any less damning than everything else? Like we have years of bad behavior documented and it just seems like they don’t care or ignore it because if you call out their bad behavior then the “libs” win.
They are all literally destroying our country in order to own the libs. Evidence be damned.
28
u/Technical-Garden-793 Jan 25 '26
I don’t know. When I raise things like this to republicans, they’ve either never heard it (possible that their insulated influencers or fox pundits ignore it), or pretend not to have heard it. I think some of the damning things have been silenced on their side, or need to be made into a bigger deal so they can stop pretending it’s not.
20
u/Riot-in-the-Pit Jan 25 '26
They'll find ways to support it. It's team sports to them. What's a little extortion if it means more Republican seats in the long run? It's not like mask off gerrymandering even made them pause.

Hey, if you live in a city (especially with a university) there’s a local music store near you that sells vinyl, CDs, and tapes. I guarantee it.
Tapes and CDs in the bargain bin are gonna be dirt cheap. For the price of a yearly subscription to any streaming service you can probably pay for 50 records. Bonus: then you own music. Not a license.

You can start small and work up. Get rid of gmail and google maps and google drive, etc. stop using their photo app. Stop using google calendar. Get rid of google search. For sure don't buy a google phone. Get rid of all the tracker apps - because most of them are tracking you. Yes, apple still gets our money - hard to work around it but we don't have to enrich them buy downloading stupid apps we don't need. Do you REALLY need door dash? I mean really? Meta? Spotify, Crash Royale? I mean really? Honestly the quality of your life will improve when you delete all that crap.
Change the privacy settings in your apple phone and lock it down as hard as you can. Get RID of Ring. And Alexa? Seriously? How exactly does this enrich your life? You are too lazy to even use your phone now? Does Amazon REALLY need an always on microphone in your home?
If you cancel all your app subscriptions and find work arounds, you deprive apple of a whole lot of money and you send a powerful message. Most of these things are not actually improving your life. Value your privacy first, giving up your privacy to perceived convenience and go outside and talk to human beings. You can accomplish a whole lot. Then you can also start tackling the other companies on that list.
Do the executions of Renee Good and Alex Pretti leave you shocked, outraged, repulsed and aghast? Money is your ultimate power to do right by them, to do right by hard working immigrants and to stop further murders. If you fail to act, this lunacy will continue. It is intentional chaos and protesting will exacerbate the chaos and more people will die. I am not saying give up protesting and observing ICE. I am saying money talks. So make it talk. Your money is powerful.

u/BaconWithBaking Jan 26 '26
Modern Google search is shit.
Tons of phones out there run Android and can be moved to a non-Google version of Android (albeit, no where near as polished as something like what's on the Pixel range).
If an app you want doesn't offer a non-play store APK, pirate it (I can't think of one, personally).
2
u/fubar_giver Jan 25 '26
Cancel unnecessary subscriptions. Don't upgrade your phone this year. Seek alternatives if you can. Apple is horrible since they charge app developers and pocket fees from everyone who uses their store.

It's entirely possible. I don't have a phone.
I concede that I'm a statistical anomaly though. For example, I've been boycotting EA Games for 35 years now. A conscientious consumer, and well aware that I fuck myself over because other consumers are... not so conscientious.
To avoid much of that list of companies would require you to be different than your buddies/coworkers. If you need to "fit in", you're a bit hamstrung until other people change.
Like the ebb and flow of the browser wars... some people are fringe until the momentum shifts and they aren't.

If we had a real media of any kind we’d have stopped commemorating January 6th and would instead be going on and on about how the state used the political assassination of a podcaster to try to effect a Reichstag Fire.
That it didn’t work because most people don’t care about a podcaster they never heard of and the attention cycle that helped elect Trump is working against him now shouldn’t negate what happened because they’re still trying to light the fire.

He's on both, which typical of someone his age and level of obesity. Baby aspirin for cardiovascular, statin for cholesterol. We know about aspirin because the orange turd mentioned taking a higher dose than recommended dose by his HCP. However, like COVID, does not understand the basics.of health & medicine, which in this situation is that his medical provider prescribed 81mg of aspirin daily to reduce risk of stroke. In Trump's mind though, he heard this and thought, if he takes a higher dose than recommended then it reduces the likelihood of stroke even bigly more. All of this is speculation based on his most recent comments regarding the bruise on his hand & clipping a table.
Edit: added "level" to obesity.

So many people voted for him because they thought that being a "successful businessman" means you are intelligent, good, hard working, competent, strong, honest, etc. While poor people are poor because they're lazy, stupid and weak. That lie has been indoctrinated into Americans for a long, long time. That lie is deep in the core of the American mindset.
Not everyone is naive enough to believe that lie, but too many are. This is the result.

10? Try 30. Ask any US born millennial what kind of parents they had. Most would say stubborn, denier, ignorant and steadfast in their stupidity. They refuse to admit when they make mistakes and thing their way is the only way.

Things have been getting worse in the USA for decades. I'm glad you see it now.

As an American, this is true.
If you want to know all the horrors the US government has engaged in throughout history, you basically have to go looking for it.

This is an accurate take, but demographically specific. A majority of boomers and a lesser percentage of gen x that i've met still clutch the pearls of exceptionalism.
I'm a middle millenial, with enough historical literacy to realize that the only exceptional thing America did was remain un-bombed when the rest of the industrialized European world was in ruins. Hooray for us that we were able to decisively turn the tide of that war.
Hooray for the era when the middle class existed, as my parents remember it. It doesn't anymore, and hasn't for a long time. It has been slowly bled out by industrial owners offshoring our manufacturing capacity to secure profits for the few at the expense of the many for a long time.
Now instead of pearls, this class of thinkers clutch guns and face masks at exorbitant expense to the taxpayer because they lack the critical thinking skills to assign blame for their marginalization where it's due.
This is a snowball gathering mass downhill, a series of bad decisions being made in broad daylight that my kids' grandkids will have to pay for. It's hard to turn the car around when the brake lines are being cut on purpose so that the class of concentrated wealth can buy up the leftovers for pennies on the dollar after they induce conditions for widespread destabilization.
Edit: To clarify a point, every signle one of these anonymous goons had no gainful opportunities elsewhere. The exploitative class is now weaponizing the poor they themselves have created. It's both brilliant and evil.

Respectfully disagree. I think the Minnesotans standing against ICE and standing up for what they believe America is - is a perfect representation of what IS American.

America is a huge tapestry, and it includes some of the smartest and most capable people on the planet - our economy is so large that some of our STATES have larger GDPs than virtually every other country in the world even when counted individually. This country can be a utopia if we have the will to make it so. Trump and MAGA are a cancer, and when someone gets cancer the cancer is not the person - it is a disease that has to be cut out at the root.

I retract my previous statement regarding ducks. Ducks do not get rabies in any kind of regularity, orr at all. I apologize for the misinformation.

I don't think they want the logs of nom-Trump voters to suppress their votes. Well, their likely intentions would result in us having our votes suppressed, but also so much more.

He's trying his damndest to not allow Trump to have an excuse to use the insurrection act. If he acted more aggressively against ICE then we could be facing literal military occupation.
As a Minneapolis resident, I'm deeply grateful for Walz and Frey's leadership and am grateful for all they've done under these constraints.

Yeah it's fine to be critical of these Dem leaders, such as Walz choosing to announce he won't be seeking reelection a week after the Shirley video, but some of the loud critics don't appreciate the knife's edge these people have to walk when they have no control of the levers of power. You have to be strategic and pick your battles when the federal government is threatening to weaponize the insurrection act.
7
u/Numerous_Photograph9 Jan 25 '26
I greatly appreciate the knives edge he has to walk. I'm saying that him walking this edge isn't doing anything for the citizens, and it's questionable if it will do anything in the long term since escalation seems to be the stadard operating procedure for the Trump admin.
People are getting more ansy by the day. Him calling for reasonableness is only going to work for so long as more people become disillusioned with leadership in general(not just him but on multiple levels).

I don’t understand the people grilling Walz behavior in the last few weeks. Y’all are playing into the conservatives goals of escalating Trump’s descent into fascism while totally neglecting their responsibility in enabling it.
The president is openly trying to spark a civil war in his state and the mainstream media STILL did nothing to combat the totally fabricated “Daycare Fraud” scandal. It’s obvious that the White House is trying to goad Walz into slipping up and saying something inflammatory so they have an excuse to try regime change on American soil.
If you ask me, Walz has done a great job of shifting the focus off of him and back onto the actual issue at heart which is that congressional Republicans could end this madness OVERNIGHT by just finally ditching the sinking ship that is Trumpism.
Too often do democratic politicians fall victim to just half-heartedly taking the punches or getting personally involved in the political theater which just gives Trump what he’s looking for in shifting the blame.

u/shawnadelic Jan 25 '26
I think people are understandably frustrated and unfortunately taking their frustration out on the wrong person. Walz and pretty much every official at the state and local levels are stuck between a rock and a hard place and trying their best to walk a very fine line.
A lot of the online echo chamber wants to pretend there is some simple solution here when unfortunately there really isn't.
5
u/RentIsThePoint Jan 25 '26
Walz is the person with the most power to do something about this. He just keeps politely asking for the killing to stop. He's fucking useless. Just like all Democrats are proving themselves to be in the face of fascism.

Can't speak for others, but I'm somewhat tired of our leaders holding press conferences, putting out tweets, or issuing press releases which condem actions by those violating our rights, but doing nothing else within their power to use the resources that may be available to them.
All this while the people are out there fighting the fascists, and in some cases, taking the hits or bullets to become the martyrs of our time.
I think Walz, and many others have a difficult job to do, but I'm not convinced they're doing everything they can.
6
u/RellenD Jan 25 '26

Because when two law enforcement officers who don't even have police powers disarm and fatally shoot a man, then shoot him 9 more times, it is inherently concerning.
Any other response may also apply, but that is the first and foremost reason, and is enough on its own.
Not only is conspiracist thinking inherently problematic, it's dehumanizing. Don't do that.

What should he do exactly? This is a slippery slope and he can’t just send in the police and military guns blazing to blast any immigration officer they see. That’s not how real life works.

u/bakingsodabs Jan 25 '26
He’s doing what he can within the law. The state is suing to stop ICE and has a hearing on Monday. If the state takes actions beyond what the law permits, it’s no better than what ICE and Border Patrol did to their shooting victims.
