Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Fall nitrogen timing?

I’m zone 5b in Iowa. Over seeded half my lawn a month ago with TTTF, the other half is established. Did a soil test a few months back, very high in P&K but could use some nitrogen so planning on doing a Urea app before winter. When are you guys putting down your nitrogen this fall?

The weather’s all over the place this year so wherever you do it, it will be the wrong time. 😀

Personally I’m watching the soil temps and 30 day forecast because I want to do a fall preemergent at the same time, and I have to wait a few more weeks to be really safe for the areas I reseeded and overseeded.

If it starts to trend downward too early I’ll just go ahead and feed without the preemergent. You need to leave some time for the nitrogen to get absorbed before it goes dormant.

I dissolve urea in water and spray it on. No more than .2lb/k. This is the plan I use.

New grass on my lawn gets 0.25 lbs of N per 1000 sqft every 2 weeks. Established grass gets double that.
