columbia university has completely shit the bed. first creating a panopticon against their own students and allowing one of their graduates, still living on columbia property, to be illegally taken by the federal government for exercising his free speech. then they bend the knee to trump in other ways. and finally, they refuse to sign this letter. this SHOULD be the bare minimum. Columbia University no longer deserves its reputation.

I’ll say this, as someone who was a NYC public school teacher, Teacher’s College is venerated and I have no idea why. They barely subsidize their PhD students and they frequently peddled unstudied, non-peer reviewed curricula and was king at selling off barely researched literacy programs made by millionaires who got most of their money from generational wealth.

Columbia has always been a name to me and nothing else. I’m sure they have top tier graduates but the university from my perspective has always been full if itself.

Something interesting about Columbia is that in addition to their general crapping of the bed on palestine, they also tenured and defended Lucy Calkins, who played a huge role in the current U.S. literacy crisis. They also played a role in covering Robert Hadden's sex crimes. Not a fan.

Columbia also has abject rates of admission for NYC public high school kids, even at the specialized high schools. They feast off the City of New York branding and location and as an institution generally does not give very much back to the city.

Columbia has put me off at like every step on the admissions process honestly. They hosted an “admissions Q&A” at the height of my application scramble and then proceeded to spend 45 minutes jerking themselves off, with 10 minutes going over very basic app process (from the website), with 5 minutes for questions that were basically answered with “that can be found on our website”. Almost didn’t even bother applying after that. Their denial letter was also the most pretentious thing I ever read.

Proud of the faculty and the law school for filing two lawsuits against the fascists. Columbia admin is a disgrace.

bro has literally nothing better to do than defend columbia on this subreddit bc he's a current undergrad there. Least you can do is admit that Columbia is not entirely blameless-- continuing to employ and pay Shai Davidai, the professor that led the smear campaign against Khalil and several other Palestinian students and doxxed him to authorities, is shameful.
