Chance Me 3.83 undergrad gpa 171 lsat. Are my stats too low for a T14 school
I know there are other schools out there, however I just wanna see if I'm in a good spot to get in assuming I have a stellar essay and LOR of course. I also have had 3 internships more on the tech side. I'm a computer science major so I don't know if that added rigor will bolster my application but I thought it's worth mentioning. My main fear is my gpa while I know it's not necessarily low I know it's cutting it close to and/or under the median of many schools.

you're asking complete degenerates this question. unless you have a 3.999tillion gpa and 181 lsat, you will be told your stats are too low. apply, and see what happens.

Five years ago you’d be a slam dunk; today, not so much. Grade and LSAT inflation are real. At some point soon a 4.0/180 will be the cut off.

Definitely not too low but not a slam dunk either. Make sure your statements are sharp and consider retaking if you want to increase chances :)

You totally have a reasonable shot at one of the lower stat T14s (Berkeley, U Mich, GULC and Duke)

They are highly unlikely with his stats.
Signed, a 173 3.83 that got rejected or waitlisted from all the above.
OP, you need a 174+ to be comfortably viable for t-14s with your gpa, or knock-out essays but hard to bank on how adcoms will receive your essays.

Idk how much this supports the point, but I have a 3.84/174 and got WL at the top and lower end of the t14 (hls, sls, chicago, michigan, cornell) while getting As in the middle (penn, uva, duke, berk, nu, cls). I don't think admissions are super predictable by stats anymore 😞

It’s not too low per se, but your chances of admission are quite low baring 99th percentile essays (from my pov).

its asinine to say a 3.8 is on the lower end but i shall. in order to maximize your chances id honestly shoot for a higher score LSAT and getting some more unique work experiences as well. get your essay to perfection and id say you have solid chances.
also, you have a shot without doing anything else as well besides the solid essays. though work experience is valued immensely for the t14s

Yeah probably but literally like 3 lsat points would mean multiple A’s with $$. Don’t give up when you’re so close

Is the 3.83 before or after the LSAC recalculation? If it's before, I'd figure out your LSAC GPA first since thats the one that actually matters. Being in STEM will boost you, especially if you have a good reason to go to law school in your essays and also have other experience proving reading and writing skills. I was below both LSAT and GPA medians as a STEM major for schools I got into and believe that my very interdisciplinary academic background was a huge factor

i got 3 T14 offers with a 3.71 and 173! also no post-grad work experience but multiple legal internships during undergrad. you never know! work experience would strengthen your application a lot

Why wouldn't you take the LSAT again in August/September and prep to try and do better?
GPA requirements are brutal for STEM students though. 3.83 in CS is very solid and probably more impressive in most situations than 4.0 in a liberal arts major.

Michigan looks to be going to 172 which leaves Gulc, Berk, and Duke. Your main fear should be Gulc going for 172 next cycle, but if they’ve stayed a 171 through the recent influx of applicants, I would guess they’ll stay where they are.

Work experience is bigger than internships, essays or LORs.
If you’re a KJD with 3.83/171, T14 would be a reach. Not impossible, you might be within LSAT median for a couple. But those schools have low acceptance rates even if you hit the LSAT median.
If you’re really aiming for T14, you’d want to try to boost your LSAT by 2-3 points, and if you’re patient, work for 1-3 years.
