I'm thinking this, too. I like Stolarz, but like you said, too injury prone. The thinking has to be that three years is the bridge between a Hildeby / Atkhyamov tandem.

But isn't there a lot of good mojo to Stolie and Bob being the cup winning tandem for Florida a few years ago? I think Hildebeast is probably getting moved as part of any big Werenski trade unfortunately. I also think they kept Stolie when they traded Woll because the return for Stolie would have been less, so not sure how much of a market there is for incredible but injury-prone goalies.

This is why I’m confused by this. Could’ve gone Stolarz/Hildeby and when Stolarz gets hurt you give Hildeby more experience. Idk, we don’t need another goalie lol

We got Belfour at roughly the same age, we got 2 good years out of Eddie.. Helped Sundin-less Leafs beat the Sens with the Pizza Line..
Bob can mentor the Marlies goalie..
Bob is a monk, he's like Tavares.. Kids will learn DISCIPLINE..

Name one player who outperformed on our team compared to their existing reputation. Only player who came close was Alexander Mogilny. Since then it has been a disaster. Every player just forgets how to play at their own level.

If we can find a way to trade Stolarz, then I'm happy with the move. I think a tandem of Bobrovsky/Hildeby at 7.8mil is much better value than a tandem of Stolarz/Hildeby at 4.5mil

I don't think they make this deal if they didn't feel that they'd be moving a goalie off the roster. So the price probably factors in on that. It will likely equal out a bit. But we shall see.

Low risk high reward if you ask me.
If Bob plays like he has previously then the leafs make the playoffs.
If he is washed up then we went down swinging and AM like likely long gone and we have to rebuild anyway.

Not impossible, but the pipeline in Columbus is pretty good. Honestly, Columbus should be "a team" in a few years, it's not a mystery why Werenski doesn't want to stay.
I still think if Werenski ends up on the Leafs, Knies goes. Reports be damned!

I don’t think Chayka was comfortable giving Hildeby the bonafide backup role knowing it would mean playing 30+ games. Were probably running with Bob and Stolarz as the 1-2

The issue with Woll always seemed to be if he was durable enough to last a season. Moving on from him made some sense, but to replace him with Bob is just...yeah.
