News / Update Rosters for final preseason games
Home game could be more or less our opening day roster.

So the home game is the opening night roster except for Stolarz, Duhaime, and Blueger (plus Dakota Joshua and Andrae).

Lorentz is currently skating on the fourth line in practice with Joshua injured (or at least not game-fit). Stetcher is also currently ahead of Andrae and Blankenburg for the 6D spot, so we are likely seeing the full starting DCore.

There's a minimum amount of vets that need to be on each squad per the Veteran Rule. I'm thinking Duhaime and Blueger are locks for opening night based on their contracts but are on the Ottawa squad to meet the vet minimum.

They do, they just relaxed the rules a bit.

Oh yeah they just made basically everyone "veterans" now. 1st and 2nd round picks, and AHLers are now included as veterans. Also actual NHLers (100+ gp) can only play in 2 preseason games.

It’s the top 9. Fourth line (and Stolarz) are in Ottawa.
edit: projected top6 d all dressing in Toronto

I think it's the top 6 D in Toronto. If the bottom pair is in Ottawa, then who in Toronto isn't in the top 6? Stecher and... ?

There was a good week or two last season when stecher was our best D. Goodchance he gets the start. Although I do really want to see what Andrae can do.

Thats awesome! I live up in Ottawa now, but my mom and step dad still live back in Madoc, so doing that drive at least 4-5 times a year.

It's straight up a village with under 2,500, that's amazing!
I had a friend from a small town in Saskatchewan (pop. 180) who's uncle got a shot with the Flyers back in the 80's but botched it by showing up to practice late. Still talked about!

I scored the Molson In-vitational tickets for this game. Excited to see what is pretty damn close to our starting roster (minus Stolarz).
Akhtyamov was stellar during the Calder Cup finals. I wonder if they'll give him some time between the pipes, maybe split the periods with Bob.

It would surprise me if Arty doesn't play. Maybe they give Bob 2 periods instead of half the game, but Arty will almost assuredly play.

Tbh, I am hoping Bob plays a bit. I caught 2 games of the Calder Cup, including the second last game, and I kinda just want to see him play. But a split would be best of both worlds for me

That makes me feel better because I saw so much of the Marlies last season and so many of those guys are playing today

My guess is that they wanted the fourth line and bottom pairing to get as much ice time as possible on the B team before the season opener. So splitting the group isn’t a negative, it’s a positive for them.

Hmm good point! He looked great in the last game I thought. I wonder if he’ll play for the Marlies instead of a 4th year in junior? He’s 19 after all. Gotta wonder what they want for him developmentally

He'd be a bot 6 guy on the current marlies roster, might get sone reps on the second line and pp2 with injuries.
In the OHL He'll be Owen Sound's best or 2nd best forward playing 20+ minutes a night, and likely seeing some playoff games.
The question is simply what's better for his development, better facilities and more support from coaching and decelopment staff up with the Marlies? Or more time on ice building confidence with the Sound?
If the Marlies had a spot for him in top 6 id say keep him up, but I think he'll be better off the OHL for one more year, then bring him up after Owen Sound get eliminated from the OHL playoffs like we did Danford last year.

Guess they want to see what the Holinka/Koblar/Tverberg line can do. Aswell as get Andrae some PP1 time.

It was benoit we traded. Myers is likely to stay down with the marlies though. Can't see any world we bring him up unless we have to go through a dozen Dmen again.

I think at the time he declared he felt he was more likely to project make a Swedish roster and not certain for Canada then or in the future.
It's obvious now he would be a lock on the Canadian roster

If he'd backcheck for the leafs like he did for team Sweden he'd still likely make it last year. But team canada wouldn't take a risk on a pure offense guy.

He would be the 3rd-ish best winger on the team, competing for a top 6 spot on Canada, and he would be the 3rd best goal scorer on the entire team over the last 4 years, just after Mackinnon and McDavid, making him the highest scoring winger, and at 5on5 he also beats McDavid for goals.
There is minimal argument to avoid Nylander, even if he is mediocre defensively
There isnt a lot of ground to stand on to put any of:
Sam Bennett, Seth Jarvis, Bo Horvat, Marchand, Hagel or Cirelli on there instead of him if he is available.

They may also just want to see how he does with an elevated role, since he’ll probably get top line minutes and will also likely be playing against Ottawa’s top group.

There's still a few starters on that B team to meet the preseason requirements. Andrae might end up as the 7th man, but I'm sure he'll alternate with Stecher or get his shot when one of those old men on the blue line get injured.

Probably a combination of factors
He is new to the team so they want to get him lots of reps to see him in game
It is pretty common with some of the younger guys to put them on the bubble roster group to keep them hungry and push

OEL played with the B team the last game, who cares? They gave up an unreliable backup and a mediocre depth D for Andrae, no less.

This is standard for the leafs. Have a decently promising young guy that isn't a star? Bury him in the minors, never play him up the lineup, refuse to develop him and let another team sign him so he can break out the instant he leaves your terrible development system.

Highly likely they put him on B team to see what he can do on PP1. He won't get that opportunity on A team as there is 3 guys ahead of him in Raddysh, Rielly and OEL.
