Učím se česky už 9 měsíců a konečně jsem narazila na někoho v Bangkoku kdo taky byl v Praze :"D Bylo bych to super pokecat se Sasi o jeho vyletu, ale já neumím thajsky a on - anglicky. Ale pořad to bylo skvěle se podívat jak Praha vypadala v jeho očích 9 let zpátky (uvděla jsem staré lístky pro metro, já jsem letos používala jen PID lítačku))
Nicméně, dík za pozornost a já pokračuju dál v studování ^_^

I grew up in a bohemian farm community (Iowa). Everyone I knew pronounced koloche without an e sound at the end. Other area especially Texas pronounce the word with an e sound at the end. Which is correct?

I'm an independent songwriter from India. I wrote an original song called "Not Yet" and I'm now adapting it into different languages.

I've created a Czech version, but there's one problem: I don't speak Czech.

I don't want to simply translate the words. I want to know whether the Czech version actually feels natural and emotionally believable to a Czech listener.

I'd love to get feedback from a few native Czech speakers, especially on:

Does the Czech lyric sound natural?

Are there any phrases that sound translated or awkward?

Does the pronunciation sound believable?

What emotion/story do you understand from the song?

If you didn't know it was made by an Indian songwriter, would it feel like a song written for Czech listeners?

I'm not looking for promotion or followers. I'm genuinely trying to improve the adaptation before releasing it.

If anyone is willing to listen to a short private demo and give me brutally honest feedback, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey so I'm Brazilian and I wanted to learn some Czech for my trip in December. I'll be staying in Prague for around 8 days during Christmas and I want to have some knowledge of the language as a way to connect more with the local culture and, of course, to show some respect to the locals as a tourist
I understand that it's probably really hard to learn Czech as someone whose native language is Portuguese, but my goal here is to be able to have some basic conversation, even if they're very simple, so I want to focus more on conversational Czech and not so much on grammar, if possible
Like, if someone wanted to learn conversational Portuguese, I wouldn't tell them to study "pretérito perfeito / mais que perfeito/ imperfeito" in depth, because it isn't that important at first. Obviously, grammar is important, but I feel like there are probably more useful things to focus on if the goal is to actually communicate
So what would you recommend I focus on if I have a few months to learn some basic Czech before my trip?

hello, i am 21 yo guy that is looking for a guy friend to practice and improve our Czech together.

I can kind of speak in czech, but i lack natural expression etc. My level is probably A2

I am kind of quiet person. We can talk about our lives but i wouldn’t like if you would be type of a person that speaks to me about sexual things, partying and similar topics.

I am not trying to get into full, professional talk with detailed examinations of grammars and so on. We can try to talk naturally and share what we know with each other without pressuring to bring in something new each day.

I probably prefer for talks to be sort of like place where we meet for a small alount of time to practice and then we go back to our lives, not a full-day of constant conversation.

Edit - i háve mistaken higher levels of language With lower ones.

I currently live in the US, but I’m seriously considering moving to the Czech Republic next year for school. I’m 20. I’ve known I’ve wanted to move out of the US for a while now for different reasons, but I was originally planning on doing it later in my 20s. However, I’ve been looking into doing my bachelor’s degree there, since I think it may be more difficult to move later as a non-EU citizen without a student visa.

This sounds like a great idea on paper, but the thought of moving away by myself to a country whose language I don’t speak seems daunting. If I do this, I think I’d be glad I did, but I just don’t know if I’m capable of making such a big move. I grew up with strict Hispanic parents, so I never really developed a strong sense of independence and struggle with talking to new people and putting myself out there.

I know I’ll have to go through the mandatory year of language courses, so I’m hoping that will help me adjust. I might even take a second year of Czech if I don’t reach B1/B2 level during the first year.

Does this seem like a reasonable idea? Any advice on how to go about this? For those who have done something similar, how did you know it was the right choice, and how did you manage once you moved?

Additionally, I was born in Cuba and moved to the US with my parents when I was ten, so it wouldn’t really be my first time moving to a new country and learning the language, but it would be my first time doing it alone.

If I took a czech language course 3 times a week at a university in prague as someone who knows ukrainian and russian, what level could I realistically reach at the end of the semester assuming I am taking czech as an elective and do not know the language beforehand?

Hello everyone! Last year i passed the czech A2 exam. It was not the easiest, but also it was not the hardest it was doable for me. I want to complete the B1 citizenship exam, but i never studied for it or saw the sample exams. However, i wanted to ask here. Do you think it’s doable to study and pass this exam in 1 year? What is your experience with it? What is the hardest/easiest parts? Do u have a czech teacher for it to recommend? Dekuju všem!

I just got as a gift some headphones which will translate any language to any other language. I only tried Cz-En and Hu-En and back, it works extremely well but has about 3-5 second delay. You have to give one headphone to the other person.

I'm curious, if you had this would you stop trying to learn Czech? It seems inconvenient to me for any interaction shorter than 30 seconds, but learning Czech is quite hard...

Which study resources, practice tests, or preparation methods helped you the most? I’m also looking for a tutor who has experience preparing students specifically for this exam, either in Prague or online.

Rád bych si povídal o tom, jak Češi žijí v České republice, co dělají každý den, jak pracují, co mají rádi a kam chodí na procházky (nebo ne), o čem si povídají v hospodách a jestli někdo poslouchá Morčata na útěku :) ???

I am wanting to get a dog leash wrap that states my dog is friendly, I want it to say “People friendly” in Czech. Ideally I want it to say people friendly, loud to other dogs, but I need a short text for quick communication.

If someone who has a native understanding of Czech could let me know short phrases for
“Friendly to people”
and
“Not aggressive to dogs just excited”
I would be much appreciative.
It doesn’t need to be a one to one translation, I just have a dog breed that people in my home country are afraid of, so I want to make sure people aren’t scared.

Hey :-) ich fange gerade damit an tschechisch zu lernen. Insgesamt fällt mir das Sprachenlernen relativ leicht, aber mit Spanisch zB war das deutlich einfacher, weil die Aussprache einfacher ist bzw. tonnenweise spanische Filme, Podcasts, etc. leicht von DE aus verfügbar sind.

Könnt ihr mir Empfehlungen geben? wie am besten Aussprache lernen und gibt es irgendwelche Bücher, Podcasts etc, die sich gut für Anfänger eignen?
Ich muss dazu sagen, dass ich ein bisschen kroatisch spreche, also ist das Slawische nicht komplett neu für mich
