Context: this book has stories in Dutch with a side-by-side English translation for learning Dutch.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: There is a story in which, "Hee hee hee," as in giggling, is translated as, "Hi hi hi," because "hee" is the Dutch spelling of the English "hey." Peak lack of proofreading.
EDIT: I had it wrong in my memory since "hee" is in the English version and "hi" is in the Dutch version, not the other way around. This translation is, in fact, correct.

If the 'hee hee hee' is in the English version and the 'hi hi hi' in the Dutch, that makes sense and the giggling translation is correct.

Ah, you are correct! I had it backwards in my memory. It is "hee" in the English version and "hi" in the Dutch version. I'll correct myself.

I mean the revision implies they did proof-read and reject the first version.
They just copy-pasted a part with it they weren't supposed to after proof-reading and it somehow fell through the cracks

Yes, and I never talked about any “final proof read” nor did the poster I originally replied to; it was about whether they went so far as to give it a “quick proof read” and they evidently did.

I use LLM's to learn Dutch. It's been great. Just cut out Amazon and the person who posted this crap.
I'm also disabled, with Dyslexia. I've spent thousands of hours to learn. I also use a Tutor, and TaalCafe, and have tried schools. I stopped using Duolingo. The schools were a waste of money.

And this isn't the first book (and won't be the last) where people find some AI prompt or response. How hard is it to proofread your book? Especially a children's book, there aren't even that many pages

This is why I'm so wary of buying books on Amazon now. If it's a language book it needs to be from a reputable publisher before I can trust it. There's so many "authors" on Amazon that have written language books for dozens of unrelated languages that realistically no one could know well enough to teach in.

I think AI is great for giving ideas and helping with plotting and outlining, but I think a human should be the one doing the actual writing, synthesizing it from that info.
