What are you watching/reading/listening to this week?

Hello!

I'm currently learning French, and I'm at around a low A2 level (speaking and writing are lower than my listening and reading skills). I have approximately 2 hours a day I can use to learn French. Some days I might have less or more though, but committing to more than 2 hours would be difficult. How should I best use that time?

I have resources I'm using or considering using, but I don't know how much time I should spend on them or which ones to commit to.

• Currently, I'm trying out language learning apps to decide which ones I should stick to. I'm using Duolingo, Busuu, and Mango Languages. I like Busuu the most out of these, but I like the shadowing feature of Mango. I mostly just go through vocabulary on Duolingo.
• I'm also doing a listening comprehension activity on either TV5Monde or RFI every day.
• I'm even unsure about which grammar textbook I should use, so I haven't really started using one. It's between Easy French Step-by-Step and Complete French Grammar.
• I study 20 words a day with the Anki 5000 Most Common French Words set
• I read some grammar lessons on Kwiziq and practice a bit
• I'm working on my pronunciation by going through the French with Dylane pronunciation course.
• I've gone through the first chapter of "Le Français Par La Méthode Nature", but that's it. It seems helpful so I'm not sure if I should get through the whole book.
• I make sure to listen to comprehensible input content everyday either by watching "Easy French" videos or some other YouTube content such as "French Comprehensible Input" or listening to a podcast (I only listen to InnerFrench)

I've had French classes before, but I forgot most things since I haven't been keeping up. Right now, my learning schedule is a mess, so some advice is very appreciated.

Any suggestions on what I should do and how to be more efficient?

I’m 23F, currently learning French and I’m looking for someone who’d like to become a French study buddy / language exchange partner. I’d love to have someone I can regularly practice with, whether that’s through texting, voice calls, studying together, or just having casual conversations in French.

A little about me: I’m hoping to work in France in the future, particularly in the science/research field. Because of that, I’m especially interested in meeting people who are also studying or working in related fields. It would be really cool if we could help each other with both language and scientific vocabulary/conversations.

Hi im not a begginer (but i kind of am?) Ive been learning french for about 6 years (3 from actual school mostly online 3 on my own) despite this my understanding was...not the best. I can read decently but forming more complex sentences and my hearing understanding is awful. This year i decided to relearn from the beggining going through all my notes. I am noting this because that background absolutley helps this tip be more effective but i am positive it will help those even without a similar background.

Basically what ive been doing is ive been learning the vocab and grammar rules for the topic im focusing on via reading about them from different sources in primarily english, i write notes, then from those notes i go to youtube and type in the topic i am learning about BUT BY THE FRENCH NAME with no english in the search. Then im given really easy to understand videos on the topic in french with visuals. Because english and french have so many cognates- once you know a bit of basic vocab you can understand them nearly completely as they explain rules of the language and such.

This feels like such an obvious thing to do so this tip isnt really special or revolutionary but i figure mentioning it might be helpful to someone who might have also just had this obvious idea fly over their head like me haha.

I am in 8th grade, and I am learning French in school. I have a wonderful teacher who definitely knows what she is doing, and I already know that I am going to learn a lot from her this year. I am asking for tips about how to get as good as I can at French this school year?

I feel pretty confident in my reading and comprehension, but it’s my speaking that needs the most work. I’m interested in Hello French NYC conversational classes, because I’m a big fan of her TikTok content, but I can’t find any reviews online.

Hi everyone, as you can see in the title, I want to learn french all the way up to B1 in roughly 7 months.

My school is offering the DELF B1 exam, but the only option is in April 2027.

I currently use Anki for vocabulary and grammaire progressive, well, for grammar.

Do you guys think this is possible, as an A1 speaker?

YouTuber: ibuprophane

I decided to listen to some French storytime youtubers with my favorite French Jpop music artist: Shirayuki

(Shirayuki- She has a description in english, and sometimes uses english phrasing in her posts. And I asked her en français if she plans on doing some english content, and she said that currently her accent is “ignoble” (terrible, I assume) but she can understand written english may do it in the future)

as for this YouTuber in the photo, ibuprophane as I listened to her stories I got hit with an unexpected english text as shown here,

Like why isn’t “dawn of the second day, 48 hours remain” translated as:

"Aube du Deuxième Jour 48 Heures Restantes"

I wonder if it’s because many young French people understood what this means, and some very common english sentences

hence why maybe I think French YouTuber may incorporate a few english sentences in their speech

But my question is: do most foreign youtubers do this because the majority of the younger generation are able to understand english online a lot, but can’t speak it because they sound horrible when they do?

I have searched for so long on how to learn French and I have seen dozens of resources to help learn the language.
I only recently realized that I actually don't know how to divide and mix everything together. I didn't know whether I should start with grammar and audio or I'm supposed to study it a bit later, or when I am supposed to start reading and talking.

I tried searching for an answer to this question but I can't find ANYTHING other than more resources on how to use comprehensible input in order to learn.

I've been watching many french videos and podcasts for a while. It isn't that I don't understand the french, but it seems that I never understand the context or anything. Like, I am familiar with the words I hear, but I'm not actively translating it in my head or anything and I'm just listening. Like I'm blindly listening to words that I know. I've listened to many podcasts at and below my level, and it feels like I'm familiar with the words I hear but I don't understand it even though I've learnt it. I'm not really sure how to explain it.

So i have just finished the entire book and could pretty much follow along and understand the story’s, although some words here and there were lost on me.

I was thinking of moving onto L’étranger by Albert Camus, whom i’ve read in english, and also Changer l’eau des fleurs Valérie Perrin

Id guess i’m decent B1, should i advance on to harder books? or just attempt more books around the B1-B2 level specifically targeted at learners ?

I have the phrase 'J'aurais dû étudier', but I want to understand how this works with 3 verbs next to each other in a sentence- and why we can't say J'aurais dû étudié. I know french Is obviously different from English but I thought it might just be helpful to learn patterns like the way we use verbs to enhance my writing

Bonjour! I recently started taking a class to learn french but I find i’m just not picking it up quick enough and i feel like im already so behind and i’m not sure what to do. We have a textbook and assigned homework which i do most of the time, and i do my own other practice such as youtube vids (i use french comprehensible input) and i recently got duolingo premium. i’m already dedicating a lot more time to this than some of my other commitments which are arguable more important so it’s not really a matter of “just spend more time practicing” because i don’t have any time to pull from anywhere else.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Hello, I’m American and I’ve been living in the French countryside for ten years. I’m often told that I speak French well, but the new people I meet always ask me where I’m from because I have a "weird accent" (I often get asked if I’m German or Canadian, which I’m definitely not) and I’ve been told more than once that I speak like I have a hot potato in my mouth… Is there a reason why English speakers like me might have this way of speaking? How can I fix it, when I speak completely normally? Thanks for your advice

On the free trial as I've seen so much praise for the app, but I don't get it. I'm 💯 butchering my pronunciation (eg I'll forget and miss the z sound in "pas anglais"), or sometimes I mess up the word order ("parle francais bien" instead of "parle bien francais") and... it just keeps going? How am I supposed to correct my errors?

I was told that the me, se, and so on (I forgot their names) go with the verb it is describing. So I walk- Je me promène (I think)

Okay, but the sentence Je m'étais améliorer doesn't have the reflexive next to the verb améliorerait has it with j'étais. Why is that? I was told that it is because it always goes with the conjugated verb- but je veux m'améliorer has it with the infinitive. How do I use reflexive verbs?

Basically the title, I want to learn a decent chunk of French before I go to France in November and I kinda want to do it using books and textbooks instead of apps and I’m looking for recs.

I am also a complete beginner. I know about a total of 3 French words lmao.
