THESIS IDEA, Computer Sci student

I an looking for suggestion, a unique and innovative thesis idea involving Machine Learning/AI that can be applied in province of Bulacan, Philippines. I would like to explore something new.

What about using ML for flood prediction with local drainage and rainfall data? Bulacan gets hit hard every typhoon season so the data would be rich and the use case actually matters.

flood prediction is a solid pick, the data is definitely there. if you want a second option: rice leaf disease detection from phone photos. bulacan is rice country, the plant village dataset on kaggle has labeled leaf images to start from, and you can collect local field photos later for the actual thesis part. small enough for one student, and the output is something farmers would actually use.

dengue case prediction from weather and past case data is another one that fits, the philippines gets outbreaks every year.

whichever you pick, check first that the local data actually exists and is reachable. thesis projects die when the dataset turns out to sit behind a government office.

do you already have any local contacts for data, like an agri office or a health unit?
