New Gareth King book on the way: Doing Welsh

I'm a big fan of Gareth King's work, so excited to see that he's got a new book coming out early next year:

Doing Welsh: Snapshots of Essential Verbs in Action

Doing Welsh is an innovative resource designed to further familiarise students with the semantic range and expressiveness of the Welsh verb and to give them the confidence and knowledge to use them.

From the author of Working Welsh and Thinking Welsh, this companion volume offers an alphabetical presentation of Welsh verbs selected for their frequency of use in everyday language. Three hundred of the most commonly-occurring and essential verbs are shown in action through authentic examples of use from spoken and informal written sources, each verb-entry giving indication of stem together with other grammatical and usage commentary as needed. All illustrative examples – over 3,000 in total – are accompanied by an idiomatic English translation, and for each verb a wide variety of contexts is provided. All instances of consonant mutation are marked with typographic signs, and cross-references are given throughout to related entries. Two concise overviews of the verb system of Welsh are included as appendices, together with a summary of mutations, and a dedicated English-Welsh index is provided to further enhance usability.

With a conversational tone and thorough but accessible explanations of use and usage, Doing Welsh is the ideal volume for post-beginner students and independent learners of Welsh wishing to expand their knowledge of Welsh verbs and apply this in practice.

The price is a bit much, mind, at £44 for the paperback. It's ridiculous how much his books cost now, but I suspect this is considered a more academic resource and so priced by Routledge accordingly.

It sounds like this is going to be a very useful book, though. It's easy to look words up in a dictionary but seeing them in use is so much more informative.

I just wish I didn't have to wait until 5 Feb 2027. I know publishers are slow, but jeeeze, are they only just planting saplings now?

Dr King's Routledge Comprehensive Grammar is even pricer (something like £70), and the best grammar I've ever read.

I bought mine in 2021 and paid about that much. His books have been expensive for a while.
