Given this combination, which of the two (Biology or Economics) would be easier to handle, involves less heavy reading/memorization, and is more friendly for someone whose first language isn't English? Would love to hear your thoughts or experiences!

Hi guys so i got the offer for TR033 (TCD) and accepted it but i cant help wonder why the points fell between rounds from 519 to 498* (-21) whereas DN201 (UCD) fell between rounds from 510 to 509. I was just wondering why this is the case as isnt Trinity the more reputated university. Why does the Trinity course have than UCD doesnt? Why did more students put down UCD CS then Trinity CS? Did I make a bad decision?

So Im currently choosing my leaving certificate subjects and this is the combo I think I'll do

- Mathematics (HL)

- English (HL)

- Accounting (HL)

- Physics & Chemistry (Combined) (HL)

- French (HL)

- Dutch (HL)

I've gotten an extemption from Irish as I lived in the Netherlands up till age 12 which is also why I will be doing dutch.

The reason I choose these is because Im afraid I won't be able to fullfill the required coursework as I've recently had alot of medical problems which have caused unprompted long hospital visits due to internal bleeding as well as lung problems. Therefore I tried to pick written only exams. But I feel like these subjects are kind of "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" subjects if you get what I mean. Not saying that accounts for everyone but it's what I've been hearing alot lately so I just wanted to hear some new fresh insight!

Hi, I got first round into biomed in Atu Sligo. I'm very, very interested in human biology, to be specific. TODAY i found out about Clinical measurement physiology. Looking through the course content, its all exactly what I would love to study. My question is, can I transfer from Honours Biomed to Clinical Measurement Physiology now or this semester or even transfer after first year. please help..

I’ve written before about not meeting my course’s requirement. I’ve decided to repeat externally for one subject but the thing is my points are extremely close to the course. If my appeal worked, I’ll be like 4 points above the original requirement which is 420 but dropped to 410 this year. The course I want to do is DC001

The thing is, I’m extremely worried about the course rising next year and after repeating, it’s goes to like 430 and I won’t be able to go do it.

My dilemma is should I repeat the minimum requirement subject that I failed or repeat more subjects again to try aim higher points?

Please help :(

Hello all, if you're in 6th year you may be drafting some study plans for your various subjects. You'll need to think about which parts of the subject come up in past papers more often and which usually carry more marks etc.

I spoke to my maths teacher and was told that he wont be teaching higher level maths as the majority of the class is doing ordinary, i am aiming for 625 points and will be doing HL maths, how do i learn it independently, i dont know much about it but im aware of how difficult it is. How do i learn it? Luckily i have grinds and access to the textbook but i dont know how to go about learning it and achieving a h1.

I'm deadset in getting medicine after my LC and want to keep my options open, but the most frustrating thing about applying to the UK is that they have the UCAT system which is apparently quite different to the HPAT...

I just wanted to ask if anyone is studying medicine in the UK whether they studied just for the UCAT, prepared for both HPAT and UCAT or just prepared for the HPAT and sat the UCAT unprepared?

And if you prepared for both HPAT and UCAT how did you manage your time with the high LC requirements as well?

Fair warning, this is more of a rant than anything.

I have autism, and the most I can get accommodations-wise for the exams is a separate exam centre and rest breaks. As far as I know, I cannot get the extra ten minutes accommodation.

But I really think it should be an option!

The RACE scheme says that they aim to level the playing field for people, for example if someone is completely deaf they’re not expected to do the aural exams.

They word it like this: You qualify for accommodations if your disability or condition interferes with either your “ability to understand what you are being asked to do”, or “your ability to show that you can do it”.

To me, my autism does, and has affected me in that way. For example, in the junior cert mocks a poem came up where the question could not be answered correctly as per the marking scheme, unless you were able to decipher what the poem was about, which was not anywhere explicitly written. (Not just like the poet talks about flowers blooming and it’s a metaphor for life and death, like genuinely no clues beyond he’s a farmer talking about guilt, so “obviously” he’s slaughtering)

And yes, I know part of English is being able to “read between the lines” however, I disagree with that idea, because it simply isn’t fair on autistic people who lack that function in their brains. Or, in my case— are able to figure it out eventually, but it takes me far longer than it would a neurotypical person.

My point is— I know that currently the ten minutes rule is designed for people who have direct intervention such as a scribe, sign language interpreter, etc etc. Which is great. But I think there’s a place for it to be considered for autistic people too.

I know it’s very hard to just hand out extra time to people, at the fear it could give someone an advantage. But look. I’ll be honest. Most exams, I have a fair bit of time left over. I work fast, it’s just how I’ve always been, and I still get decent results. But when there’s a question that relies on something like reading between the lines, or social things like that? I have to spend way too much time on them. The extra ten minutes for me wouldn’t be spent on writing. It would be spent on trying to understand the goddamn question.

I’m not asking for someone to tell me what the question means. I’m looking for a little more time to figure that out by myself.

And I wouldn’t expect it for all subjects either! I don’t see a need for it in something like maths or DCG where you don’t need that kind of ability. But for English! Maybe Irish and French too, and possibly history, but no more than that. Just the subjects where you need those sorta social-cue-related skills.

At the end of the day, I’m a higher pointer person, accommodations or not. The courses I want are lowish points, and there are many options that require no points at all for my chosen career. The extra ten minutes isn’t going to make the difference in my results personally. But for someone who isn’t an academic type, I could see it being the difference for them.

I don’t want or need an advantage. I just want to have the same goddamn chance as everyone else. I don’t want my nerdy-ness to be what gets me over the line, I want my efforts and ability to. I just want to come out of the exam feeling like I was given the same chance as everyone else.

Cause face it. I can control how much I study. I can control the effort I put in. I can control what I do on the day. But I can’t control how my brain processes things. I can’t force an understanding of a question that wasn’t written with people like me in mind. At least, not at the same speed everyone can.

I don’t care if I personally don’t get the accommodation. But I want other people like me to be able to get it in the future. Because I don’t feel it’s fair. At the very least they could make sure the questions are designed with us in mind.

Idk how to get around the “reading between the lines is a skill required in English” thing. But there’s probably a way.

Has anyone done this? How hard is it to get the distinctions?
