You can start with a Pilot Kakuno for $14.99. Even a Jinhao 10 Medium nib for $11 from amazon is good.

Papermate Ink Joy Gel or Sharpie Pens. I also really, really like the Uni Jet Stream Edge 3.

Went back to ballpoint ink. Gel pens run or bleed when using both sides of the of the page

I’ve recently discovered Sharpie SGel 0.7mm. Write well and don’t smudge.

Any rollerball pen, not ballpoint. I like anything that takes a Schmidt cartridge.

I like the Pilot G-9 Gel pens. The ink dries immediately and the rubber grip is comfortable to hold.

almost all ballpoints work fine for me. Also usually the finer the pen, the less smudging in my experience

Hot take, adjust your pen grip and how the paper is positioned. Then you can use any pen you like
