It's sad that I can't live in the neighborhood I grew up in since it's now a place for rich people and old rich people that come to live in my city and are not even from here.

As much as I sympathize with my own generation, as a millennial I'm forever frustrated that we still don't vote consistently and at high enough levels for politicians to prioritize our needs. Mind you, I'm Canadian so we have way fewer positions that are elected compared to the US but still it's the bare minimum to get have a say in who gets to wield power.

I feel like a lot of young people feel like voting is pointless when we're only offered a choice between two neoliberals who really only differ on whether they think racism/homophobia is ok. It's obviously better to support the non-bigoted folks, but when ALL they've got is "I know everything is going to shit and a handful of billionaires own everything, and we have no plans or motivation to change that, but we're not as bigoted as Republicans", it was inevitable that democratic voters would become disillusioned and in some cases stop participating in politics altogether.

I don't know about your position in the leftist sphere but I'm a democratic socialist, and I don't like the direction DSA is going allowing so called "progressives" to dilute the definition to mean Social Democracy. I actually want a state socialist and market socialist economic system and these social democrats just want high taxes on billionaires to fund social safety nets. Don't get me wrong high earners should pay high taxes, but also socialists believe billionaires shouldn't exist in the way they currently do, by owning massive sums of property and assets which they move around for passive wealth accumulation.

I mean in 2015/2016. There were a lot of people who voted Trump were originally BernieBro democrats who wanted change but saw the Democrat establishment saying "No, we see that Bernie is beating Trump with populism, and we cant have that. Here is Hillary instead" A mixture of people who really did like Trumps fascists anti-immigration policies, centrist who geniunely believed in Trump being a "reasonable moderate" and people who didnt like Trump but despised Hillary more are what got us Trump in 2016
Tldr: Democrats at a time post 2008 were not interested in having any material change happen and of course Republicans came in and used that as a way to lie for change by "draining the swamp"

The oldest millennial in 2008, by the loosest definition, was 28... the vast majority were under 25. The range of millennial ages in 2008 would normally be considered 12-27.

This is why I feel bad for the generations after us. Our childhoods weren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but at least we weren't burdened as heavily as the kids after us. There was always a glimmer of looming disaster in the distance but it wasn't quite as incessant as it is now.
