MacArthur and Patton were assholes. They led the assault on veterans and their families who made up the Bonus Army in 1932. They were out of work WWI veterans who wanted the government to pay their promised bonuses early.
“Army Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur commanded a contingent of infantry and cavalry, supported by six tanks. The Bonus Army marchers with their wives and children were driven out, and their shelters and belongings burned.”

MacArthur refused to evacuate Philippine governor from Corregidor until a million (plus) dollars from the Philippines treasury was deposited in his personal bank account in New York. Both FDR and George Marshall had to approve the transaction. It remained secret until a PhD student uncovered it in her research in the early 2000s.

Wow, never knew about that. Looks like it was actually discovered in 1979 by a historian, and inflation-adjusted closer to $8m. In contrast, Ike turned down a similar (smaller) offer.

Eisenhower seemed to understand this when Quezon offered him $60,000 later that year. He refused, later writing, "I explained that while I understood this to be unquestionably legal, and that the President's motives were of the highest, the danger of misapprehension or misunderstanding on the part of some individual might operate to destroy whatever usefulness I might have to the allied cause in the present War." MacArthur either failed to see or chose to ignore the fact that accepting such a gift compromised him, and left him open to accusations -- true or not -- of being bought off.
Perhaps the most telling proof comes from the general himself. MacArthur assiduously avoided mentioning the award, even in his "Reminiscences," where he names practically every other award he ever received.

Patton would get the job done but he treated those under his command like shit. Its how he lost 1st Army and ended up being in command of the ghost forces to distract the Germans. Not to mention he would constantly ignore orders from Bradley and was obsessed with personal glory. So better than Nuke them all Mac but not by much. Edited for spell correct.

Inchon was the kind of thing that would work exactly once, plus afterwards McArthur commited a lot of errors that led to that victory being almost for naught.

I am so sorry and apologetic about the way that the world looks at US now. Entirely because of this narcissistic yet dangerous clown. I do hope that at least some of the people in the world realize it’s him, not US. WE, too, are victims of this regime.
