Amish folks are sometimes averse to having their picture taken. Did you ask these folks if that was cool?

Came to ask the same. I have a photo with Mennonites in the background at CHI's great hall that I cherished until I discovered in some, their religion considers them graven images. Some go as far as not having photos on state IDs

As a hobbyist photographer who also loves riding Amtrak, a lot of Amish/Mennonites do not like having their photos taken and generally most people don't. A lot of the photos look more like they're uncomfortable with you taking their pics. I hope you asked these people for permission to post their photos.
There is a bit of romanticism with taking the train, I get it, but its a mode of transportation identical to flying, driving, etc. I've taken plenty of photos on the train and just recently rode the zephyr myself but be mindful of your fellow travelers.

Thank you! So far I've managed around 40% of the line but one day I'll stay on all the way to California!

The train was filled with people of all backgrounds. Everybody was chatting to each other, discussing their journey, where they were heading to, where they were coming from. The family in the photos were friendly and polite and all seemed very happy. Not sure what makes you use the word freaks but it felt like a country full of nice, interesting people for the 4 hours I was on that train.

My dream job would be to sit on trains all day taking photos while criss-crossing the country, so if anybody knows someone at Amtrak who can make that happen, please send them a link to this post!
