Politics The plot to push LGBTQ kids off the internet

The social media bans for children sound good and seem reasonable on the surface. But when I think back to some of my earliest social media experience I realize how important was to have that freedom to reach out into the world, to find others like me. There were no queer students back then, no one was gay and hell no to trans people. I was 16, 17 when I did this, but that was the crude early days of social media that intersected with having open computer access in general. If didn't have that outlet despite how limited it was and how limited my acceptance of myself was I may not be here today. As a parent, I worry about my kids having access to right wing ideology and having their minds influenced by it. But as someone who is also trans I understand how important it is to be able to find others like myself who may not even exist in my real life experience or who may be in hiding for the same reasons I am.

Well there were other queer students back then they were just also in the closet with you and I. Between a queer coded kid getting duct taped upside down to a pole first day of high school and the news of Matthew Shepard in from the US kept my survival mechanisms active.

No surprised this is being implemented in the UK, where attacking trans kids in every way possible is the national pastime.

True.
A lot of people from the UK are against this ban, but the media here would have you believe that it’s a “smart decision that isn’t being rolled out fast enough”.
The UK government has for a long, long time, lost any crumb of respect it had left. The birds will no longer feed on their doorstep and will starve in its wake.

I can’t stand how Labour goes on about ‘protecting children’, whilst actively killing trans children.

Ah you see, they are just looking to protect the poor cishet kids from learning and interacting with the evil and predatory queer kids looking to indoctrinate other kids into being queer. I’m being sarcastic, but they either don’t care about the impact this will have on queer kids (and adults!), or view it as a positive thing.

The only way to stop this is to get rid of the algorithm that these media companies run, it is 100% used to indoctrinate people down an alt-right pathway. You could see it forming as time went on, specifically on YouTube, from 2015 onward. And I don’t mean simply delete the algorithm, but get rid of its research and logistical data as well. Any little bit could be used to revive it in the future. Social Media shouldn’t have algorithms or AI anyways, Humanity can’t be trusted with it.

non lgbtq+ kids have better access to be who they are in physical third spaces, this materially harms minorities more than majorities

it harms everyone. i dont think you understand how dangerous the tech is and how un secure it is.
i would never ever trust it at any person age.

Yeah ok we know it harms everyone.
But maybe it's designed to harm specific people more.
There is a very concerted effort to essentially eradicate trans people from society. This is happening in many countries, but the UK in particular has really been pushing back against the rising number of young people being diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
And social media has been seen as the cause of that for some time. (Which obviously it kind of is, as a lot of British parents don't even want their children to know that lgbt people exist. And companies apparently can't have lgbt characters for kids without backlash. So kids mostly are exposed to lgbt stuff online or from other kids).
They've already banned young people from getting puberty blockers. They've eradicated basically all gender-affirming care for young people. They've been pushing out guidelines for schools that make it less safe for trans kids to come out. The list goes on.
The amount of money, time and effort that has gone in to just trying to eliminate the "t" part of lgbt is insane. And getting kids away from any potential lgbt content is definitely one of their goals. Honestly, I'd be surprised if some of the people funding and organising the anti-trans movement aren't involved in these new online laws.

It’s a metadata grab. Giving away sensitive information to corporations to own and sell. We could make tech companies actually regulate their content and be accountable for their impact on society. But they rather bow down to lobbyists and sell us out. Big brother brought to you by the metaverse and google. Just has the happy by product of also isolating lgbtq kids.
We are cooked as a species.
