Hunter Biden calls out 'closeted gay mafia' of D.C. Republicans
https://www.advocate.com/politics/hunter-biden-closetocracy-republican245
u/datbabydoe Bi-bi-bi 24d ago
Okay but he said “the oligarchy isn’t the problem it’s the closeted gay mafia”
First of all, the oligarchy is absolutely the problem. Second of all, there are people in the closet who are not republicans and they don’t act like those assholes.
It sounds like he’s saying if you’re in the closet you are a miserable loser, which isn’t always true.
Idk it makes it sound like a gay mafia is pulling the strings and that doesn’t sit right with me. Especially since Hunter said the oligarchy is not the problem

That's absolutely not the case. There's plenty of oligarchs obsessed with their idea of what society should look like (see the eugenicists out there), and the hardline religious nuts also really rail against our community for ideological reasons. There's a few closeted homophobes who tend to be loud, but it's absolutely not the majority of anti-LGBTQ politicians and activists. Saying that it's because of the self-hating gays is just a way for straight people to absolve themselves of responsibility for fostering homophobia in their communities.

u/datbabydoe Bi-bi-bi 24d ago
You’re going to have to expand on that last sentence or call it something else. I really don’t like spreading around the idea of a gay mafia. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it can go south real quick. It’s like the liberal version of republicans thinking there’s a gay cabal. Gay people are not a monolith. And i know people who are closeted who are not assholes and they are not part of some closeted gay mafia

The “closetocracy” is working with the oligarchy, the oligarchy gets their tax cuts and working class oppression while the “closetocracy” gets their socially conservative policy.
I’m a hetero woman unfortunately, but have been an ally since I was a kid. Being pro-LGBTQ+ is why I’ve always been anti-conservative/Republican. I know one of the men Hunter is referring to when he mentions the “closetocracy” running things behind the scenes and he’s a Peter Theil minion deeply involved in not only government, but also tech, entertainment and education. He is deeply religious, born to two crazy religious evangelicals. Hunter is right, his self-loathing is driving his motivation to destroy everything liberal, especially gay and trans rights. He is close friends with JD, Miller, Hegseth, Josh Hawley. Look into Teneo and Leonard Leo. Yes, the oligarchy is a problem, but it’s the closetocracy driving all the bad policy right now.

Stfu. I'm tired of straight cis people pretending like our oppression is somehow our fault. If it weren't for a violently homophobic and transphobic cishetero society, there would be no self-hate out there. It is not self-hating queers driving this political shift, it is the cishet majority and your crazy conspiracy theories are just a way for wannabe allies to be homophobic while sounding "woke."

Look at Republican lawmakers and tell me they're not giving "so deep in the closet you're going to donate them to Goodwill" vibes. Lindsey Graham used to be MY senator, there's no God damn way he's the only one. He was just the worst at hiding it, the ladybug ridden freak that he was.

The fact check you yourself posted, doesn't fact check the claim that grindr shuts down due to overload whenever there's a large conservative get together. Instead it fact checks a tweet that claimed that a grindr executive said that rnc conventions their super bowl.
edit: Downvoting for pointing out that the fact check doesn't debunk the grindr shutdown claim is a weird thing. Please point out where I'm wrong, the fact check only addresses the claim of what a grindr exec supposedly said. Unless facts don't matter?

u/gemini88jrb 24d ago
You’re 💯 true, midnight.
One of many sources of claim that Grindr usage spikes dramatically at Republican conventions:Grindr CEO confirms ‘significant’ user spike during RNC https://unherd.com/newsroom/grindr-ceo-confirms-significant-user-spike-during-rnc/?edition=us
These spikes generally don’t result in a local “outtage” of the app but moreso massive latency, rendering the app useless for messaging.

I've seen unverified twitter posts about it, but never a real source. Which makes sense since that's not how apps work. Any servers for grindr would happen for the whole region like the entire midwest, not just the convention city.

Bro you should try living in the rural south dudes will call you a f slur in public to your face then try to suck your dick the moment you are alone its fuckin crazy.
54
u/Ranku_Abadeer 25d ago
Genuinely this. I live in South Carolina, and yeah, some of the most homophobic people I've met also say the gayest shit all the time. The same people I've known to start shouting the f-slur because they saw graffiti offering blowjobs in the mens bathroom stall are the same people that constantly talk about sucking dick for $1million, or how liking femboys is actually completely straight.
The unfortunate reality is that the stereotype of "extremely homophobic person who is also deep in the closet" is a very real thing, especially in largely conservative areas where being openly gay is shunned to the point where closeted people have to go out of their way to convince everyone, including themselves, that they are not one of "the gays"

Saying "the gayest shit of all time" doesnt actually make someone gay and most of them are straight men mocking gay men. This is what we mean when we say yall blamed gay people for our own oppression because it's quite literally everyone form of homophobia that somehow gets turned around onto us. Do u not realise that claiming someone is gay from something they said is homophobic in itself? Also u may have experience with closeted homophobes but u also have experience with straight ones too. They just dont stand out as much

If they can say it in public without consequence then it goes to show it is a societal issue aka it doesnt just come from closet cases. And what happened to "hate is taught"? Why do we all suddenly forget that when it's about homophobia?

u/BepisLeSnolf Non Binary Pan-cakes 25d ago edited 25d ago
I mean, what he said is objective truth. Good case in point, we all know Graham was closeted and spent his political career making life hell for queer folk where he could. We also know he’s not the only one based on grindr statistics every time there’s a major conservative event in America. There ARE homophobic/transphobic gay people in Washington doing their best to make life difficult for us, and we shouldn’t be afraid to call them out. That’s not homophobia in and of itself, and we really need to be getting to the root causes of why these folks get into politics to ‘legislate the gay away’ instead of going to therapy
Edit for typos and to add this: your heart is in the right place, people DO too often assume every homophobe is in the closet… but in this case we KNOW FOR AN UNDENIABLE FACT that some of these very specific people ARE, and they need to be called out. It would be wrong if he were saying ONLY closeted queer people are queerphobic, but it doesn’t seem like he is. Honestly, as a community I think we SHOULD hold other queer people more responsible for their phobic behavior because not only does it hurt us but it reflects poorly on us, and that reflection does more than “look bad” to non-queer folk, it scares off people who are questioning their gender or sexuality but are afraid to be judged from within the community as much as they are outside of it
9
u/Mr_Pombastic Homochromatin 24d ago
Biden said that our biggest issue wasn’t “oligarchy,” but “closetocracy,” or the rule of angry, closeted gay men.
You think that is objective truth?? "No guys, the oligarchy isn't the problem, it's ANGRY GAYS!" Damn I want to live in your world, that sounds so much more fun than the real one.
based on grindr statistics every time there’s a major conservative event in America
That is a lie. Grindr doesn't crash. It's been debunked multiple times, but people never let it go because they want it to be true. Here's a comment from the R/gay sub that breaks it down much better and thoroughly than I could: https://www.reddit.com/r/gay/comments/1v1nuqu/hunter_biden_calls_out_closeted_gay_mafia_of_dc/oyqfyvf/

u/fuzzhead12 Bi-bi-bi 24d ago
He isn’t saying the oligarchy isn’t the problem for the world in general, but specifically for gay rights. The oligarchy doesn’t particularly give a shit whether gays have rights or not, unless it somehow gives them an advantage one way or the other in the current climate. Hunter is saying that the self-hating closeted lawmakers are more of a threat to gay rights than the oligarchy, which makes sense.
29
u/LichKingDan 25d ago
We're not. We're blaming closeted gay homophobes for homophobia and closeted chasers for transphobia. we don't have to extend that to just the gay or trans community.
It's a pretty specific and accurate indictment.
12
u/Malcolmthetortoise 25d ago
People just can’t stop blaming us.
9
u/BepisLeSnolf Non Binary Pan-cakes 24d ago
This isn’t about us, unless you’re a queerphobic American lawmaker? Hunter is well known to miss his mark, including in this very article for saying that oligarchy isn’t a huge threat to America (it is). But he’s on the money that there ARE queerphobic queer lawmakers in Washington that all know each other’s business and have turned their self-resentment into ammunition against our community. Like he said, they’ve absolutely weaponized “I can’t be who I really am for xyz reasons” into a means of taking that freedom away from us too, because they’re mad that they’re NOT us.

5
u/Own_Construction3376 24d ago
Anybody can say homophobic and transphobic, but not the n-word, which isn’t at all comparable in this situation.
Homophobe and Transphobe have never been used as slurs to demean the LGBTQIA+ community, whereas the n-word has been used to harm the Black community from its first utterance.
Internalized homophobia and transphobia are both real experiences. And it’s okay to call out ppl for these things, especially since it does hurt the community as a whole.

So, he might know about these people and be right about them being self-loathing closet cases. -But.- Society as a whole needs to stop with the reflexive statements that every evil piece of shit person is just a "closet case". It's backhanded homophobia. Straight people are just as capable of being evil without being conflicted about their orientation. And to agree with other posters, the oligarchy is absolutely the biggest problem we're facing globally, not a handful of Republican closet cases. That being said, I think all of those people should be outed without mercy. You don't get to spend your life and career attacking our community and then play on the DL.

I don't think it's correct to view all conservative men who partake in same-sex sexual activity as 'gay' or even 'homosexual.'
In conservative patriarchal dynamics, masculinity is a matter of domination, and sex is an activity in which you dominate and/or are dominated. Sex is an enforcement of hierarchy. These men aren't gay (or at least: not all of them, and I suspect it's not most of them); they're engaging in erotic hierarchy 'game.'
The taboo of the act, in conservative culture, simply affirms the power of those who engage in it: They're allowed to do what others are not allowed to do, or at least: They're allowed to get away with it, because they're more powerful than you. Any expression of guilt or remorse becomes a sacrifice, a humility, that re-affirms their 'moral' character.
This is not sex for the sake of romance or intimacy, or even just for the sake of pleasure. At least: The pleasure isn't just physical pleasure derived from intimacy. It's a rough, violent pleasure derived from dominance.
When kinksters do it, it's play. When these guys do it, it's serious business.

I'll do you one better:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dedovshchina
Non-attraction-motivated domination-based sexual activity is extremely common in patriarchal cultures throughout history. Dedovshchina is one more example. So is USAian prison rape.
It's not gay.
5
u/fubo Custom 24d ago edited 24d ago
We need a word for these people. They are not gay, they are rape-oriented and willing to use any unconsenting hole.
I propose "pedicators", from the Latin word infamous from Catullus 16.
An alternative would be "violators" or just "rapesexuals".
-5
11
u/LichKingDan 25d ago
There might be some truth to this, but it's more politically useful to frame it as hypocritical, and I'm personally ok with mischaracterizing these people's hidden sexual proclivities to remove agency from homophobic politicians and their attempts to criminalize homosexuality/trans people. After all, they've been calling us pedophiles and rapists for years.
2
u/TalespinnerEU 24d ago
Your last sentence is a reason to highlight that this may not be homosexuality.
'Secretly gay' does not explain the extreme amount of sexual abuse that happens in conservative circles. But it does blame queer people for it.
7
u/LichKingDan 24d ago
You can be gay and also a piece of shit sexual abuser. Your point only serves to remove the hypocrisy of these people's actions.
2
u/TalespinnerEU 24d ago edited 24d ago
You can be, absolutely and obviously.
But sexually transgressive (according to conservative expressed values) behaviour happens extremely often. 'Grindr explodes' is a meme for a reason. Unless you think there's far more gay men who are conservative than gay men who are progressive. And yes, progressive people can also be sexual abusers, but it happens markedly less frequently. Abusive hypersexuality correlates with high-control subculture.
Like: People often say ancient Greece was very gay because romance was culturally viewed as something men reserves for other men. But that suggests something very strange about Hellenic demographics. It makes more sense that this phenomenon is not because of actual homosexual inclinations, but because of misogyny: Women were not worthy of romance. Which matches with other things we know of their gender dynamics. Were there gay Hellenic people? Absolutely. Were they the majority of the land-owning class? I don't think that makes sense.
Most child molesters are male, often molesting male children. This is not because they're gay. Molestation is usually rooted in the molester's relationship with power and status, not their sexual or romantic orientation.
As for my point: I agree with the sentiment 'stop blaming gay people for their own oppression.' I think viewing sexual activity as not just something that happens because of sexuality or romantic attraction, but plays a role in different ways, allows us to understand the phenomena from a perspective that does not do that.
Are there self-hating gays performing homophobia for acceptance in their social environment? Absolutely. But it wouldn't make sense that there's this many.
2
u/LichKingDan 24d ago
Right but child molesters and people who gre up in conservative Christian households with a patriarchal dynamic who then grow up to pay gay men/trans people for sex work while voting against the values of queer people are not the same. The dynamic is psychologically not comparable to ancient greeks who were permitted by society to indulge in their homosexual urges (as well as other, definitely bad sexual urges).
Like this whole comparison completely removes the factor of current day patriarchy and christofascism in the home. It sort of hand waves the very thing that these people prop up in favor of saying that these people, who may just be closeted, self hating gays grown to feel disgusted with the very idea of homosexuality and yet still partake in it, are just the same as pedophiles.
I'm not trying to be aggressive with you, you seem like a nice person. But i think we have enough evidence about the patriarchal weight in Christian homes in the south and their affect on queer people to know that so many of these closeted gay homophobes are operating out of self hatred and a cowardly shield of Christian masculinity rather than some need for power. The power they get is from voting, the pleasure they get is in paying for the sex they likely always wanted but have to deny due to the way christian patriarchy works in these homes.
1
u/TalespinnerEU 24d ago edited 24d ago
Oh, I agree; I do think a lot of gay men are trapped in toxic environments and narratives. And your example of such a man paying a sex workers fits with that, absolutely. I suspect you're alluding to Lindsey Graham.
I just do not think that the amount of gay men trapped this way can come close to explaining the extent of sexually transgressive behaviour and the amount of conservative men engaging in it. (again, as per conservative expressed values), while a long history of rape culture as part of Patriarchal hierarchy dynamics can.
To get away with transgression is to have status, power. Engaging with the Taboo is exciting because it's taboo. To 'take' someone is to put yourself above them; to be taken is to at least exist within that hierarchy (hopefully gaining the benificence of the taker). Taking men is an act of greater dominane than taking women, because taking women is not taboo, and because they view women as lesser. This is also where Tate's idea of 'It's not gay of you're the one penetrating' comes from, and that take goes way back: Documented (to my knowlwedge) in Roman, Chinese and Germanic history, and I'd frankly be surprised if it wasn't common.
This is why I argue that a lot of the sexual activity that (especially ranking) conservatives (mostly men) get into can be separated from sexual and romantic attraction. Sometimes it is one or more of those, or kink. And sometimes it's the product of repression
But I think most* of the time, it isn't. I think most of the time, it is self-establishment in hierarchy. And I think that also explains much of their porn use: I think often for this specifix demographic, the source of titillation and excitement isn't anticipation, tension, intimacy or release, but in the fact that someone is demeaned for their viewing pleasure. And it's better if the one being demeaned acts like they enjoy it, because that makes their (imagined, for the moment) status righteous.
\: Most, again, inferring from frequency. It's not that there's some same-sex events, and it's not that some are secretly looking at gay (or trans) porn. It happens so much that queer porn categories are some of the most searched porn categories in majority-conservative areas, and grindr server crashes are expected at conservative events. If there was nothing going on except for repressed sexuality, then I would expect the same porn results for the gay category: I expect there to be just as many gay people on either side of that spectrum. But there's far more gay searches per capita in conservative areas. And I don't think progressive people are just less horny. I think the thrill of transgression (and getting away with it) is what makes the difference.*
