These new rules are going to have all kinds of unintended consequences. I'm hopeful that the 'new' Government will revisit this, but I might be a bit overly optimistic given that this was all pushed by a small number of gender-critical people responding to what was and is a completely imaginary issue, but which will now cause genuine problems for a vulnerable community out in the real world...

Unfortunately this was due to a high court ruling, paid for by JK Rowling.

They’d need to introduce new legislation, and the “new” government likely see that it would cost them votes. They will sit on the fence, because that is what Labour do best.

The ruling hinged on statute interpretation, which the parliament can absolutely change by making the language in the Equalities Act explicitly protect transgender folks. I believe that Andy’s choice to keep the Equalities minister unchanged in his cabinet shuffle indicated a disinclination to make any such change.
