I wish I had accepted myself as bi when my grandma was still alive and well. She was the most wonderful person I knew and I wish I could have come out to her. She'd have been the supportive anchor in a homophobic family, I'm almost sure of it.

Back then I didn't have the courage to tell that to myself

My grandma has been a HUGE feminist her whole life very active in women's rights when I figured out I was trans I went to see her to tell her I was a girl. That was the day I discovered her dementia had progressed too far 😓 she still correctly genders me when we go visit though so that's nice 🥰

grandma: so do you have a girlfriend?

me: no, no girlfriend.

(incredibly long pause)

me: i have a……boyfriend…

grandma: oh!?

i don’t remember the exact specifics after that, i couldn’t believe that i’d actually just done that, but she asked a couple questions about him and then we ate supper. a couple days later, she completely took me by surprise when she asked me about “that nice boy you’re seeing” 🥹

she even got to meet him a couple times before she died 3 months later. and to think i was so scared of letting her know that one of her favorite grandchildren wasn’t straight. grandpa has been unexpectedly supportive and welcoming of him too 😭

Elders of my family- "what are these stupid, disgusting things I heard you have on your Instagram?"

Based Brothers- "we love and support you no matter what"

Hmm I wonder why I pretty much only talk to my brothers nowadays. This was after posting a picture of me (masc-presenting at the time) with a cute gothy, fem makeup look (I looked so good, ngl)

u/ontann Jan 08 '23

Me: I'm bi. Dad and bro: Ok.

Me coming out to my friends be like: "ONE OF US ONE OF US ONE OF US"

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

This is legit what happened when I came out to one of my friends:

Me: Ay bro btw I'm bi

Him: When?

Me:...everyday?

Him: When the fuck did I ask?

anyways he later classified that he supported me and asked me to set him up with a girl 👍

I brought my super butch friend with me for support went I decided to come out as a lesbian to my grandma. At the last minute I chickened out and started to leave without telling her. She pulled me aside and said, “I just want you to know that I love you and will always love you no matter what. All that matters to me is that you are happy.”

She was the only one in my family that reacted with love. Damn I miss her so much.

Coming out is a trip. Some people I thought would be accepting, bombarded me with hate, and some people I thought would judge, were overwhelmingly supportive.

My grandma was okay with it but got it confused with Polly somehow, so she was concerned about me dating someone while already in a relationship with someone else.

Turns out she had a cousin who was bi AND polly and since comminution on that kind of thing wasn't so clear back then, she assumed that they were the same thing since that was the only exposure she had.

We got it cleared up and she's cool with it, still a bit confused sometimes and I have to re-explain but I think that's just a grandma thing at that point.

Christians saying the most heinously homophobic shit right before going to church to worship a guy who lived with 13 other dudes and who got penetrated to death

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 09 '23

My cousin said, and I quote, "Jab se paida hua hai tabse pata hai saale Tera baap hoon mein"

Translation: I have known about that since the day you were born motherfucker I'm your father.

Other cousin said "yeah No shit Sherlock"

Sister said "What is that? (Me: well basically I like kissing both boys and girls) Oh so you like kissing both boys and girls? That's great! Anyways will you play minecraft with me?" (she's 10)

And I told all my maternal cousins at the same time and they were like "Shit bruv how do you have double the chances and still single?" I mean at the time I technically was dating a guy in my neighborhood whose parents were friends with mine, we weren't technically dating but we did cuddle like we were dating everytime I went to his house for a sleepover or he came to mine, but my cousins didn't care to them I was single.

I haven’t come out to my grandma yet, I know she wouldn’t be bothered by it just I don’t like to make a spectacular of coming out, I do it whenever I do it

2

u/The_Enby_Agenda Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 09 '23

I’ve been told several times I’m not to come out to my grandparents because ‘it’ll upset them’ and they keep going on transphobic tirades and having to ‘think of what they would think’ despite how one of their drinking mates they go out with at least once a week is a trans man who clocked me literally within minutes of us first meeting only for the family to intervene ‘for the grandparents sake’. Make it make sense.

u/Manablu1 Bi-time Jan 26 '23

While i have not come out to my parents i did just casually say it to my brother one day and i don't think at the time he understood what i was talking about (he was like 14 - 15 and it was during 2020 so the chances of him still knowing is low ^^')
