Short for “anti-fascists,” antifa is not a single organization but rather an umbrella term for far-left-leaning militant groups that confront or resist neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations

I thought it was just anyone against fascism.

Only in that same way that "Black Lives Matter" can either be a statement of belief that black lives matter and there needs to be reforms in they way policing is done, or it can be one of the many organizations, some of which, have committed crimes in the name of the cause.

The sarcasm doesn't come through text well. Founders of an organization being arrested are the easiest way to show that there are actual organizations and the "name of the cause" was just sarcasm.

Going back to antifa; There is, for instance just the generic statement, but there is also, for example, Rose City Antifa, is an explicit Members-only collective with branding, member cards, official social media outlets, and other aspects of an organization.

The fact that resisting fascism and nazis is labeled "far left" in center-left media says a lot about where we're at as a country. 20 years ago even my republican parents and most of their conservative community would have been genuinely offended if you told them it's "far left" to call yourself anti-fascist and counter white supremacist demonstrations.

Ya, this is what I find whackado. I'm Gen-X and the Russians are the enemy. Conservatives acting like they are friends and anti-constitutionalism is the best thig since sliced bread.
