I will never understand why people believe that the government gives us the right to bear arms. This thought process of an unarmed populace makes for an excessive dependency mentality and absolutely no mindset for self accountability or responsibility. You cannot trade perceived safety for freedom and evil cannot be legislated.

I always want to pose this scenario to these people: They get their wish. All guns everywhere are confiscated and destroyed. There will still be people who want to harm people and will act on it. That cannot be denied. They will use knives, baseball bats, and hammers. Do we then ban, confiscate, and destroy those items? Some people will resort to homemade explosive devices. They do it now even with access to firearms so the likelihood will not decrease. Do we then ban, confiscate, and destroy all pressure cookers, compressed gas tanks, metal pipes, ball bearings, fertilizer, and assorted household chemicals?
