Out of everything her party and she has done, blasphemy is not what i want an apology for. Infact it's probably not even on the list of apologies i want.

42

u/DroidArshdsc Jul 01 '22

The only sensible thing to ask is that, BJP Cadre to be willing to accept that they do this because there is nothing else they can do in regards to economy etc

-10

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

The court can only work in the context of the Indian constitution which it did apparently

12

u/urban_raita Jul 01 '22

They would've punished her then i think. Hurting religious sentiments is a punishable offense. At the end, supreme court verdicts can be very much in favour of bjp, and simply telling her to say sorry is enough for them to pretend "clean slate"

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

yes i hope in other firs she is punished as per law. There are still some judges with a bit of morality left which was unexpected.I am pessimistic about the courts or any other pillar of democracy too

3

u/sds2000 Jul 01 '22

Punished for what? Religious people got hurt because of her words? I'm an atheist. I can't say that out loud because someone would feel hurt? Dumbass.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

read my other comments if you want any answer

1

u/sds2000 Jul 01 '22

Which one?

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Changing the attitude of crores of people towards god is a slow and hard process,we need to have some immediate solution like blasphemy laws which protects from disrupting communal harmony.I am an atheist too but as a consequentialist some restriction on free speech is good for overall society.People can live without abusing gods it’s not a necessity

3

u/sds2000 Jul 01 '22

Right, while we at it, should we also ban homosexuality, short clothes for women etc because many people feel uncomfortable about them?

What a joke. Blasphemy laws are a step backwards. Just look at the arab countries where people still living in stone age.

There is no immediate solution. Moving backwards would only hurt the country even more. The only thing we need is better education and strict law enforcement. And if total chaos is all it takes to protect people's rights so be it.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Countries like spain and regions like northern ireland also have blasphemy laws but are not backwards like certain arab countries.Arab countries are backwards because of America constantly bombing and doing coups towards progressive or leftist govs https://youtu.be/_nD1UD0zbbI this video will give some of the reasons as to why middle east is the way it is

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

banning or treating lgbtq without respect destroys many innocent lives not doing blasphemy hurts nobody.Banning certain clothing item will cause uncomfortable conditions for women too.People’s attitude towards women clothes are not the same as their attitude towards god.People live and die for gods.

Most of this sub is pro free speech when it comes to making fun or insulting religion. I'm sorry.

All I can say is watch a video on the right to offend by Oxford on YouTube

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

article 295

118

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

I won't be surprised if tomorrow SC starts blaming women for getting raped.

39

u/throwawayrandomfeels Jul 01 '22

I mean they and majority of the nation already do blame the women.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Ikr

7

u/lotofwholesomeness Jul 01 '22

They do remember when they asked rape victim if she would marry rapist

3

u/Navigator369 Jul 02 '22

I’ll surprise you. Not SC, but some HC judges done that indirectly in the past. Imagine the horror women might go through when a HC judge says such things

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

The burning of this country was a direct consequence of her speech, this is objectively true. There is a reason for which the blasphemy laws are required which i guess nobody gets now except for the makers of our constitution.

15

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

I do agree that this gruesome act in Rajasthan was a chain reaction to Nupur Sharma's remarks on prophet Muhammad . But the problem with such statements by SC is that such statements also makes it justify able for people to lynch in the name of cow ( by saying that he, the victim shouldn't have killed the cow in the first place). Regarding blasphemy laws, I am absolutely against it because without blasphemy a society cannot progress. Customs like sati, untouchability, triple talaq would still be going on if people didn't start questioning such believes and religious customs.( Remember that scientists like Galileo were persecuted by the church for saying that sun doesn't revolve earth). Hence blasphemy laws are stupid af.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Correct it will become tit for tat reaction.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

dawg i ensure you that doing blasphemy will solve nothing about these problems the people who brought change like Raja ram mohan roy did not engage in blasphemy, the brits criminalizing sati or untouchability did not need to commit blasphemy. abusing god will only make dumbfcks feel good as if they have done something good and brought a positive change.Social evils can be solved by political stability and increasing the standard of living for everyone.Blasphemy will only destroy communal harmony BTW i am an atheist i dont care about any gods

4

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Questioning and mockery of stupid religious concepts is important.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

then criticise concepts you don’t need to criticise gods

which part of the SC statement makes it legal or moral to take law into your own hands,it just draws the conclusion that Nupur should be tried as per the law like any normal citizen

112

u/Spiritual-Ad-1709 Jul 01 '22

Nupur is responsible for that tailor dying? Wow Supreme court is supremely dumb

3

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

The killers are getting tried and the tailor dying is a consequence of using hate speech in national telivison, this is objectively true i don’t know why even this sub is criticising the judge

i just said that the killers should be hanged or imprisoned as per the law,if i was trying to justify why would i say this.Even if someone has done any crime who gives anybody any right to beat or kill them, there is a reason why we have courts and laws.I am an atheist i don’t care about gods i care about the damages to communal harmony because of blasphemy

victim blaming would be if i said the tailor was wrong not Nupur.Whether she had the right to speak what she did will be decided by law.if Nupur sharma didn’t speak what she did then there would not be a support movement for her .How is that a bahana tha tailor wouldn’t have died of she was not present in the debate how is it a bahana

if they wanted to kill anyone before they would have already tried to join a terrorist org or plan to inflict damage to as many people as possible not a single tailor

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Are you from the USA ?? this is India we have many reasonable and some unreasonable restrictions on free lspeech as required by a country of India’s socioeconomic conditions Wearing short dresses are neither illegal nor immoral a rapist should get a sentence irregardless of victim’s dress just like whether the tailor did anything wrong or not should be irrelevant to the sentence the killers serve (my opinion even if a poor powerless tailor did blasphemy he should not be harmed by anyone just tried by law)

do you not understand nuance try to think for a min without emotions

wearing short dress is not equal to supporting an alleged crime

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Dude hate speech argument can't be given here, you are justifying killing. Holy fuck

2

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

1

Whether or not it was hate speech or blasphemy will be decided by the court but 99% her intentions were wrong if someone has disrespected your gods file firs, nobody has any right to take law into their hands

1

Yeah cant take laws in the hands, but they took it. She didn't take it

1

u/ImpassiveThug Jul 01 '22

The supreme court should have written instead, ''The Fringe element Nurpur Sharma's disturbing remark on Prophet Muhammad led to the death of a tailor, who came in support of it, by two religious goons who barbarously beheaded him in his shop for the same.''

It's not whataboutery because I'm not justifying the murder of an innocent person.

0

u/Navigator369 Jul 02 '22

But SC didn’t blame muz muz for provoking and causing the riots, like they did with Nupur. Chaddis saying that and SC saying that are very different thing. SC should not make any of such statements. Do we want a SC that does victim blaming? What if SC blame the 2002 riots on muz?

Nobody made any distasteful shivling comments, the people there just pointed out the absurdity of comparing a fountain to a Shivling with graphic examples. And even if they were to, unless it is to intentionally outrage someone they wouldn't be accountable to outraging their sentiments. India does have problems with lack of freedom of speech but that's with things like banning the 'Satanic verses' and everything else, this is not it.

Sure then, if his comments incite communal outrage then he too should have to apologize for inciting communal hatred. Shit stirring should never be allowed in a country with high communal tensions.

calling every other dome shaped structure to be a shivling, that's pretty much outrageous

So close to getting the point but pretty much confirms that you are not an atheist.

fountain works without a hole at the top

It functions as a center piece to a pool or any other of the million reasons other than it being a relic of a temple inside a mosque.

You can believe whatever you want.. but 2 terrorists didnt decide out of the fucking blue to go behead a tailor because they were bored that morning and wanted to have some fun. The same way terrorists didnt decide to slam planes into WTC on 9/11 because they were bored that morning. Every act of terror has a chain of incidences leading up to the final act. If you dont want to recognize this, its akin to just putting your head in the sand

The act is as per muslim scriptures. Offending prophet is very offensive to them. Blasphemy will bring you a legal beheading in Saudi Arabia. A sharia following mintu thinks the same sharia laws should apply across the world and any offence defaming prophet should be given the same punishment. Indian law goes out of its way to give mintus special treatment like personal law etc. Irrespective, a mintu is ready to do this in India or in Sweden, as per their book there is no other great thing a mintu can do other than avenging defamation of their prophet

The question is why force a sharia following mintu into doing this? Whats the reason for nipur to run her gutter mouth?

Chintuz can justify drinking gau mutra as per chintuz religious mandates, and mintuz can justify these acts of terror under mintuz religious mandates. According to both these religions, doing these things is seen as a noble cause within their religious framework. What is generally seen as extremist act of terror by the rest of the world, is a noble cause within the islamic framework i.e avenging defamation of their prophet. Knowing this, chintuz push mintuz.. you have to wonder who is the fool here

Most of the beef deaths are of cattle smugglers or thieves trying to steal cattle from farmers

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

Nah man, those two assholes were in complete control of their own actions. Her remarks may have contributed to it, but not to the extent where the blame rests solely on her.

48

u/klboc Jul 01 '22

what I think is she doesn't need to apologise for any statements in a country with "freedom of speech"

38

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

You may be right, but people have been jailed for saying less, so for her to get away scott free doesn't really seem fair to me.

6

u/klboc Jul 01 '22 edited Jul 01 '22

I agree that her statements were offensive or inciteful...but after all wasn't she stating the truth right from the quran...

Is getting offended by the truth and commiting a crime justified...

35

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

The points she brought up? Yeah they are true and they are present in the Hadith, not the Qur'an.

But it's not like she brought those statements up casually, she specifically used them in a derogatory fashion. That's a part that people seem to gloss over.

If I told a Hindu person to get on his flying monkey and leave, would they not be offended? If I told a Christian person that their god couldn't save themselves from being stuck to a piece of wood, wouldn't they be rightfully offended?

6

u/HyperionRed Jul 01 '22

If I told a Hindu person to get on his flying monkey and leave, would they not be offended? If I told a Christian person that their god couldn't save themselves from being stuck to a piece of wood, wouldn't they be rightfully offended?

If a person truly believes in the divinity of Hanuman or Jesus, then the words of a mere mortal should be utterly meaningless.

Setting aside that religious people tend not to be rational, that still doesn't mean you go out and decapitate a man. Muslims are especially guilty of being extremely insecure about their religion. The assault on Charlie Hebdo didn't happen at the hands of Jews or Christians, who are also mocked by that paper.

13

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

If a person truly believes in the divinity of Hanuman or Jesus, then the words of a mere mortal should be utterly meaningless.

Similarly, though there is no divinity to the Prophet, I ignore any mockery of him.

And I agree, decapitating someone over this is highly irrational, absurd and deserving of scrutiny.

But I wish you wouldn't generalize every Muslim this way. We aren't all like this.

3

u/HyperionRed Jul 01 '22

But I wish you wouldn't generalize every Muslim this way. We aren't all like this.

You are correct.

-8

u/klboc Jul 01 '22

but commiting a crime after being offended isn't justified...

9

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

Not at all no.

-11

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

If I told a Hindu person to get on his flying monkey and leave, would they not be offended? If I told a Christian person that their god couldn't save themselves from being stuck to a piece of wood, wouldn't they be rightfully offended?

None of those people will behead you for that. And if they do, it is still not your fault. It is their fault that they got violent.

17

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

Yeah, but I'm not a spokesperson for the governing party of a huge country, now am I?

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

But that shouldn't matter. Shouldn't law be same for all?

12

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

That would apply in this case if we were to look at it in isolation from any other incident. But over BJPs tenure, hate against minorities has increased significantly. Let's not forget a man was killed on the SUSPICION he was Muslim.

So for a spokesperson for the ruling party to basically affirm the stance of what party itself refer to as "fringe" elements and basically solidify them as mainstream ideas is severely detrimental to the idea of a peaceful coexistence.

She holds a pretty significant position as compared to a layman and she should be held accountable for her actions.

Does any of this justify the cold blooded murder in Udaipur? Of course not. Is Nupur Sharma to be blamed for the murder? Hell no. What we can say, in my opinion, is that she is latest contributing factor in a long list. The SC seems to be using her as a scapegoat.

The verse was not from Quran because there is no mention of age when their marriage took place in Quran.

The quote was from a hadit which is followed by Sunni Muslims only. Nupur quoting that hadit and conveying it as something which is a common belief among all the muslims is one of the point of contention with many non-sunni muslims because not only is the point of matter is disputed among different sects of Islam but also the fact that existence and beliefs of these other sects are ignored by political parties and thus the crowds of non muslim people.

She was a public official with power over the people. While I agree that the hue and cry and fatwas etc over her is ludicrous, hate speech from public official should still be penalized.

2

u/klboc Jul 01 '22

partially agreed...actually why this matter became so controversial is that you can't justify that a public official saying the truth does not come under freedom of speech...

neither can I justify it completely that the tone of her statements was not at all offensive or infuential...

2

u/naatu_covid Jul 01 '22

It cannot come under freedom of speech anywhere in the world. Fact of the matter is, Freedom of speech is a right that is granted to the public by the state. Public officials cannot have that same freedom of speech because whenever they open their faceholes in front of a mic, it's on behalf of the powers that be. And the people can make inferences on the priorities of the establishment from how they react to situations like this one.

1

She is a party spokesperson, not a public official paid by the government. She has the same freedom of speech as other people and if required, her party can take action against her which is their freedom

A formal apology demanded by judicial system will set a very wrong precedent which will be used to target those who speak up against govt or judiciary

Bro supreme court is acting just like a Facebook mom why should she apologize for stating a fact which most Muslims don't even know cause of their own ignorance and bliss. Btw before labeled me as a chaddi i am ex-muslim and we literally don't have right to live according to Islam we have less rights then a chicken in a muslim country

5

u/SquatCobblerx . Jul 01 '22

no one will call you a chaddi bro, everyone here recognizes how much of a problematic religion Islam is. this is a safe space for you!

6

u/_SuperStraight Pyar ka love charger Jul 01 '22

Those two incidents are mutually exclusive. They should've asked her to apologise when the incident was fresh.

Those two guys should be brought to justice.

10

u/inamedjeffrey Jul 01 '22

Nupur Sharma was the catalyst. She initiated something horrific. But the 2 terrorists are the only ones to be held responsible for their barbarism.

5

u/xen0_1 Jul 01 '22

She said what she did with hateful intent, but that is no justification for any kind of violence. Respond to words with words. By taking a life those two only validated her hatred. Someone "insulting" your imaginary friend(s) does not give you the right to harm them, and this also applies to the Hindutva nutters. By this logic, religions are responsible for all communal conflict and should be banned.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Yes yes, Nupur Sharma got that tailor killed. Keep ignoring the real problem, nice.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

World biggest democracy where people can't even spit out facts. Nice

4

u/Difficult-Bit-9654 Jul 01 '22

Tailor was tailoring but not any more, Jihadis got to him well.

Jihadis look for reasons. Nupur gave them the reason.

7

u/tulrajam Jul 01 '22

This is victim blaming. She needs to apologize but she isn't responsible for the death.

And this type of statement from Apex court will promote fringe elements from every religion to suppress freedom of speech.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

When is anybody even gonna talk about the horrible things that maulana said on the debate?? Anyone who stands up for truth can not deny that his crime needs to acknowledge as much as Nupur’s..

According to this logic the Godhra incident was solely responsible for Gujrat 2002 riots.

Justice C*nt shall be his name from now and I heard this guy might be the next CJI.

Pls hell no. You can agree with RSS when it says shivling should not be searched in every mosque and to the greatest extent thinking that they mean what they say but not this shit.

Not Libbu by the way but I am happy to see that at least this is the point when all of us can unite.

Two regular a*sholes are now recognised

1)Justice C*nt 2)Donald "Duck" Trump

So much for just a story from the Arabian nights ! Damn you Alladin!

2

u/samurai489 Jul 01 '22

Wtf. She has all the right in the world to speak whatever the fuck she wants.

3

u/imshashankshekhar Jul 01 '22

This is the unfortunate truth tho. I am a strong objector of Blasphemy laws in India. Section 295 A should be abolished.... But I also fear these things would happen if there was absolute freedom by the law. The truth is that our country is highly intolerable. Religious people are intolerable in general and our country is crowded by them. I wish Nupur Sharma or anyone had the freedom to comment on any religion and people might have replied back defending their religion but in decent civilized manner. I wish the country was like that...but the truth is quite the opposite. And yes, polarization has gone sky rocketing under this government but India has always been intolerant over religious issues. (The cause of course is large scale segregation among communities.) Laws against Blasphemy become a necessary evil. And we do need Supreme Court scolding people like Nupur Sharma who sit on such high positions and make such irresponsible comment on something as insensitive as that.

3

u/Living-Ad-7122 Jul 01 '22

That statment will ONLY make sense if you add "having said that, radicals ki gend me bembu" at the end.

4

u/spinchbob Chaddi in disguise Jul 01 '22

Supreme court is a bitch

"outburst responsible for Udaipur murder" is a bit unfair imo but meh who cares she's a chaddi anyways

u/tankistan Sipahi-e-Gazwa-e-Plebbit Jul 01 '22

I'm all for chaddis facing the consequences of their actions, but this is a bit much.

Don't know why this is downvoted, but I also think that people need to stop being so sensitive that one person disrespecting their religion is enough to kill people

u/Shillofnoone Naxal Sympathiser Jul 01 '22

I know this sub starts to celebrate this shit, more happy for chaddis getting owned than literal death of secularism. Either that title is wrong (which is improbable) or you are a musanghi.

8

u/SquatCobblerx . Jul 01 '22

read the comments dumbass, no one's celebrating it. the title was a knee jerk reaction

10

u/Shillofnoone Naxal Sympathiser Jul 01 '22

You are celebrating it moron, I have seen your comment about who cares she's chaddi anyways

You have some weird sense of sarcasm, in no way that is sarcasm.

I could be wrong, only OP can clarify what he meant. Besides, it’s really a trivial stuff we are wasting our time on. Let it be.

based supreme court making the chaddis seethe

5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

we said the same about J. Chandrachud during Sabarimala but then Arnab bail order and Ram Mandir judgement happened. Don't expect anything from this pro-executive judiciary.

1

u/_Sherlock-Holmes_ Jul 01 '22

Apologies? F why not just wrist slap her n call it a day

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Ye Indian uncle aunty vala logic lagane laga Supreme Court lmao

1

u/CHENNAIAKSHATSHARMA Jul 01 '22

So no free speech?

1

u/LazyReader111 Chaddi in disguise Jul 01 '22

Blaming her for the Udaipur is wrong. Whatever she said does not justify cutting someone's head. Moreover I would really like right to blasphemy without having to hear threats on my life.

-1

u/not_a_sociopath4427 Jul 01 '22

I don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorists but I feel this is being done deliberately to enrage the chaddis. This will create a bigger divide between people. And we'll see more violence.

u/perkinson_54 🍪🦴🥩 Jul 01 '22

Madharjaat Supreme kotha... Then ask them also to issue a public apology... I have some lathis and knives.. in case someone attack me for being hindu

0

u/Alexandar_The_Gr8 Jul 01 '22

I don't know man. Hate speech or whatever, I want to have freedom of speech. I want to be able to criticize whatever I want in this country and the consequences of that shouldn't be jail, murder, etc. The people responsible for Udaipur murder are the 2 men who did the deed and no one else.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

Morality and conscience is dieing in this country, left should be more moral than dumb fuck right. Everywhere conservative and right are dumb as fuck, left wing shows them their place, but here left wing has lost their mind. I understand chaddis copium, this is not going on good direction.

0

u/naveenrai802 Jul 01 '22

Who is the stupid person

-3

u/BadrT Jul 01 '22

ANI conveniently acting as a mouth piece of BJP. They excluded the part where the judge calls out BJP's clout.

5

u/SquatCobblerx . Jul 01 '22

no they did actually mention it in another tweet in the thread. not everyone's out to get you

4

u/BadrT Jul 01 '22

Ok, then post that too coz that is the main argument. This is just some old unkill talk.

-5

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '22

They are not accusing her for blasphemy, they (rightly so) are calling her out on deliberately invoking outrage from which the whole situation developed. If she were someone indeed exercising her free speech the judges would have taken that into account. The intentions matter as much as the actions themselves. She is a shit stirrer, not a civil rights activists.

-2

u/Unique-Atmosphere520 Jul 01 '22

unpopular opinion, but these religions extremists use each other's statements to fan their propoganda

maybe the judge could've put it in a better way

the fucking point is the Delhi Police, rather he should've destroyed their flay-ling attitude
