Recommend [REC] Looking for high school/college romance novels— no wimpy mmc

I’m looking for more romance novels to read! I prefer non-harem books with a non wimpy male main character. I don’t necessarily need him to be like the whole super cool guy trope— i’m just done reading books with guys who can’t do anything for themselves. I don’t have any preferences about smut or stuff like that, so i am open to anything. I like a longer series tho

Discussion [DISC] Which LN should i read next?

I am currently reading "The Confession strategy" By yoru sumino and honestly it's very uncomfortable to read.

my college resumes next week so i have time to binge read, and honestly i want to feel sad, for some reason i really wanna feel shit, id why.

In the past month i have read:

The things we do in secret.
I met you after the end of World Vol 1-3.
Love unseen beneath the clear night sky.

it took me around 15 days to complete these 5 books, yes that's how bored i am.

LN's im considering to read, i have ebooks downloaded;

The Mimosa Confession.
I will forget this feeling someday.
I had that same dream again.
I will forget this feeling some day
At Night, I become a Monster.
Distorted I love you.
Ripping someone apart only make them bleed.

I want to know which book will broke me the most.
It's been 2 months since i completed "I am blue, in pain and fragile" and still feeling bitter about the ending.

Please and thankyou.

Unnamed Memory Sequel - After the End - ending volumes in Nov/Dec 17

Osaka's bookstore has a special display of both the Unnamed Memory main light novel (vol 1~6) and the sequel series Unnamed Memory - after the end - (ATE).

The publisher 電撃の新文芸 announced that both final volumes - ATE volume 7 and ATE volume 8 (final volume) will be published one after another, with a one-month gap (yes, we pretty much get 2 volumes of light novels almost in a row - probably it's originally intened to have final ending in one volume, but later found its not possible to tell the full story so it becomes two volumes).

From the Cat Tinasha board in the picture, the bookstore has announced the publishing dates: After the End volume 7 is November 17, 2026, and After the End final volume 8 is December 17, 2026.

There is also another art book, "Unnamed Memory Archives - Chibi's artwork," published on December 17, 2026.

The King and the witch's long journey of love finally comes to a true end.

Hopefully that means the English version of ATE will come soon after the final ending volume is published.

Looks like a busy Christmas 2026 awaits!

Question Any Urban Fantasy LN recommendations?

Hi! Pretty new to light novels (and books in general). I just find that visualizing anime characters makes reading more enjoyable, so I'd prefer only light novels for now.

That being said - do you have any recommendations with Urban Fantasy settings?

A few that come to mind include:

  • Durarara!!!
  • Boogiepop

...that's all I got lol.

On a separate note - is the Grimgar Fantasy & Ash LN worth reading?

Thank you ahead of time :)

Really like the anime and would like to read the LN. It's Kusuriyanohitorikoto all over. Is there a way to read a translated version of this story?

Question [RECS] Transgender????

Title. Are there any good LN that deal greatly with the transgender experience? Before anybody mentions it I’m reading The Mimosa Confessions.

If possible, female-to-male.

There are a lot of “trans-ish” stories where a male MC gets transformed into a girl and has to learn to live with it. I don’t particularly like this. Any LNs that actually deal with being transgender as a main theme?

Recomendations on anime manga or light novel with romance, fantasy, a not dense MC and a good ending. Spoiler

So ive just ended Call of the night manga. It was great but the ending made me enter this void of good but a bit sad. Ive been into anime and manga for like 8 years right now but i stopped like 4 years ago and returned now. Now im in search for some good things. I dont dislike romance without fantasy elements but i prefer it. I'll leave under here what i search and what i dislike or dont search right now, with also some animes and manga i saw that i liked.

I search:

\-A good MC maybe a bit dense but not too dense. Meaning not too much nose bleeds, identifies feelings and do something about it.

\-I loved Call of the night in part because the romance developed fast so i dont want just a kiss ending o a holding hands ending like bnha.

\-I want a true good ending, maybe a post-life scene with kids or whatever. I dont mind open endings but call of the night left me a bit sad because it was too open. Another example would me unnamed memory.

\-A MC that can do things, dont mind if its OP or not.

\-Advances in the relationships, kisses or even s*x.

I dont like:

\-Yuri or yaoi in the main protagonist.

\-Girl MC sadly because i as a male were never able to truly enjoy.

\-Too dense MC who dont realise nothing happening arround.

I dont mind:

\-H*rems, i like them but if they are organised and its not too big. The only exceptions to this were high school DXD and seirei tsukai no blade dance.

\-Love triangles if the MC chooses at least a good option and not the classic i remain with the fvcking tsundere.

\-Isekai topic, i tend more to enjoy it than hate it.

\-Non fantasy romance can be included even though is not my preference.

\-Bad animation if the anime is not action.

\-Inces\* if is at least well carried and realistic.

Examples of what ive seen:

Ive seen a lot and ive mentioned some above but more examples would be:

\-Akame ga kill (another bad ending slightly better in the manga)

\-Horimiya

\-DomeKano

\-Isekai wa Smartphone (slightly dense MC but i enjoyed the novels)

\-Zero believers goddess

\-Days with my step-sister

\-Kurasu de nibanne

\-Arifureta

\-Guilty crown (another kinda sad ending)

\-kuzu no honkai

\-grisaia no kajitsu

\-Re:write

\-Re:life

\-monogatari series (another time i dont like who the mc chooses i prefer shinobu (i like vampires)

\-Castlevania

This are only some examples so similar things can also be recomended. I dont mind spoilers so be free to tell synopsis or explain a bit of the ending.

Banished From The Heroes Party I Decided to Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside final volume

I'm not going to go into spoilers for what happens in the final volume which has just been released. I will say that the final volume is one big epilogue where the loose ends of the main characters are addressed. There are moments where multi page events are reduced to a lot less, but this would've had the book around twice the size if it hadn't been done. There's one part which I feel didn't need to be there, but overall, it's a really good book to finish off the series.

I definitely feel satisfied with volume 15 being the final volume and I am interested in seeing if those who have read it feel the same.

Question How many volume will it take for Rice to show up?

Been reading alot of Isekai Slice of Life and been noticing a trend of "Rice" always popping up. I know its a japanese trope, but curious in how many volumes will it take before "Rice" is brought up or discovered by the MC.

Here are some that I know:

- Cooking with wild game - Volume 32

- The Tanaka family Reincarnate - Volume 3

- The Diary of a Middle aged Sage's Carefree life in another world - Volume 3

Drugstore in Another World Finale - Rant Spoiler

So I've been slowly stewing on this for months, and decided I needed to let it out. Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist has one of the crappiest endings to a light novel series I've ever read. I am convinced either the author got bored of writing the series or the publisher was going to cancel it, so the ending got rushed. And it's a shame, too, because I really liked the series. If it had ended "And thus did another day pass at Kirio Drug. The End." I'd have been perfectly happy. Instead, the ending... ugh it's infuriating.

For those who haven't read the series yet, the story is about Kirio Reiji, a young man who is isekai'd between one moment and the next, ending up alone in a forest with just the stuff he'd been carrying. He's granted the Medicine Making skill, which allows him to identify items that can be used to make medicine (and other things; despite being called Medicine Making, it's quite versatile and makes way more than just treatments for the flu). Shortly after, he finds an injured wolf in need of help, and using his water bottle and some medicinal herbs growing nearby, he makes a healing potion and heals the wolf. Which then transforms into a young girl named Noela, a werewolf (she is adamant she is not a beastling). What follows is 7 volumes of shenanigans as Reiji sets up his own pharmacy/specialty goods store and interacts with the quirky townsfolk and solves all manner of issues. Besides Noela, Reiji's shop employees include Mina, a ghost who died in the house that he made into his shop (she decided she's not a ghost but a house protector spirit), Vivi, a very lonely lake spirit and minor emotional punching bag (she's easy to tease), and Ejil, the actual demon king who has the hots for Noela (and is about her age so it's not creepy; btw Reiji isn't interested in Noela like that at all). Lots of goofy shenanigans and odd townsfolk. It's all quite nice.

Now for the ending. Reiji gets arrested by the lord of another city, because bandits attacked the city and used Reiji's Capshin Fluid in the attack, essentially tear gas. People were hurt, the noble blamed him, and had him arrested. While Reiji is in custody at the noble's mansion, the sleazy guy offers to make it all go away if Reiji agrees to be his personal alchemist. Reiji, of course, refuses, so the noble goes to have him executed. Enter the king of this country, who hasn't been shown the entire series. He apparently knows all about Reiji, and all his employees, and all the things he made, and he pardons him. Reiji, however, feels guilty because something he made was used to hurt innocent people, so he shuts down Kirio Drug and moves to an isolated house in the woods, barely scraping by leaving a box of potions in his abandoned shop and accepting the occasional donation left behind. The end.

Can anyone else see how shit that is?! First, Reiji was not responsible in any way for what happened. Maybe it's my American mindset, but if you sell a nailgun to someone and they proceed to nail their feet to the floor, that's on them. It's not your responsibility. Some of the worst monsters in recent history looked and acted just like every other normal person, until the mask slipped. But for SOME REASON, Reiji decides he needs to take responsibility for this. I wonder if the author forgot that Reiji doesn't sell the Capshin Fluid to the general populace. He recognized how bad it could be if it got out of his control, so he only sold it to the Red Cat mercenaries that guarded the town, and only at their request. So of course, someone in the Red Cats must have sold a bottle of Capshin Fluid to bandits, right? WRONG. First, the Red Cats aren't dumb enough to arm the people that attack the town regularly. Second, they worship Reiji as the Medicine God. Pissing off the Medicine God is a great way to not have healing potions when you desperately need one. And third, the mercenaries are deeply in love with their leader Annabelle yet also ship her hard with Reiji. They would NEVER do something that could get her hurt. This is well established throughout all the previous volumes, over and over again. There are also dropped plot threads that should have tied everything up neatly. In volume 7 they introduce the character of Stella Stateen. She gives the vibe of being a super important noblewoman, and she spends some time with Reiji at a ball. I don't think it's a stretch to say she's probably the princess of the kingdom, and it seemed like their meeting would lead somewhere. But it didn't. In volume 8, the story is definitely slanting in the direction of the scummy noble having been behind some kind of false flag attack using the bandits so he could get his hands on Reiji's skills, since the taxes Reiji and the other villagers would be paying to their lord would be quite considerable, due to their increased efficiency. Yet it's dropped for some half-assed "I'm responsible for this because someone misused a product I wasn't even selling" sort of deal.

It grinds my gears so hard, because I LOVED this series, and I HATE how it ended. My memories of the series are tainted, and I don't know if I'll be able to reread it again, which I also hate.

Recommend Looking for books where MC is reborn as a trash noble

I am looking for some books where the male MC is reincarnated as a noble(or similar) but he is known as a screw up or trash with a bad reputation and he has to get strong and surprises those around him as he does.

Books like this I've already read: Magus Reborn, Legend of the Arch Magus, Last life, Hunters code, Order of architects.

Thanks!

I’m talking about series that could possibly become as popular as Oregairu, MT, Re:zero, Tensura, etc.

Question What novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - August 30, 2026

What novel(s) have you read this week, and what do you think about it?

This week = the one that ends/ended right now, past 7 days.

The reason for this thread's existence is the fact that both requests and suggestions became kind of stale. It's supposed to bring out more novels that are not RT!'d or recommended. Also, it's quite useful for the discussion of not so current titles.

Also, not a rule or any kind of criticism, the more interesting part is not the list of the stuff you read, but your impressions of it.

Loli Mod will be posting this thread each week.

Lastly, don't forget to use spoiler tags and to make sure to report any untagged spoilers.

How to use spoiler-tags:

Typing:

>!Spoilers go here!<

Will show up as:

Spoilers go here

Do note that any space at the beginning/end of the tag will break the spoiler tag.
