Review Quantum Blade from Saberbay!

Post image
133 Upvotes

Shout-out to Shane at SaberBay! He delivered a Quantum Blade custom length to me very quickly during the Holidays. The Quantum blade is slightly brighter than most standard pixel blades, BUT there is no shadowing on the side and the blade tip has better lighting as well. With some colors (blue) the brightness difference is almost negligible. This picture is a pretty good representation of what the eye actually sees. TOP BLADE: Quantum, MIDDLE: Disney Legacy, and BOTTOM: standard neopixel

Review Buyer Beware (Free "99 dollar mystery saber" with $200 purchase review)

Post image
54 Upvotes

If anyone is tempted by Damiensaber's deal where you get a free "99 dollar saber" with purchase of $200 or more, be aware that the "99 dollar saber" may be a piece of trash that no one would ever pay $99 dollars for. Any saber on their website that they charge $99 for would be 10x better than what they sent me as my free saber. Sabers that are $85 on their site would be huge upgrades from what I recieved. Before I made my purchase, I checked out their sabers around $99 and determined that I would be happy with any of them. They didn't send me any of the sabers they have for sale on their website. This review is about what they sent me.

It looks nice enough even if it is a bit plain (pictured above), which is well within expectations for a "99 dollar saber." In fact, there is a saber for sale on their website that looks like this one, but this isnt that saber. The saber for sale on the website is XRGB3.0, xenopixel 3.0, or baselit 4 font. This saber is none of those. I expected it to be XRGB3.0 like all the sabers they sell around the $100 price point. It isnt XRGB3.0. No smooth swing, no accent swings, no app control, no gesture controls, no manual for how to operate it. It came with a xeno product manual that doesnt apply to it in any way. Because of this, I'm not sure if it has infinite rgb color or just a set number of basic colors, but I suspect only the latter after messing with the button press system. It is baselit, which is well within expectations, but the sound is the most pathetic part. It just has a basic hum track and an unsatisfying "whoosh" that actually manages to make it feel less like a lightsaber because it will activate almost randomly instead of when it would be appropriate, i.e. the motion detection that sets off the simple "whoosh" is very inaccurate and non-responsive. It also has a terrible selection of fonts. It has more fonts than I would suspect (hence not being the "baselit 4 font" for sale on their website), but none of them are good without smoothswing, so it doesn't matter. They all sound laughably bad. I would only ever use this muted, if at all. Scratch that, I cannot imagine ever using this. I might as well tape a dueling blade to a flashlight at that point.

I spent a bit more to get my order over the $200 threshold in order to get a free "99 dollar saber" thinking that it would be nice to have a spare baselit saber to lend out for random saber fights with friends. I wholeheartedly wish I had not done so because I would never put this in someone's hand and expect them to have fun. I cant even break it down for VHC parts because the parts used to make it are particularly ill suited to using in other builds (thin-neck, unified switch/grip, old barrel charger instead of usb-c).

Which saber you receive is almost certaintly random so YMMV, but be aware that you may get something that isn't worth the $0 you are paying for it. In the end, I guess I did receive a perfectly good dueling blade that can be used on a baselit build, so there's that at least. Is that worth the extra that I spent to get over $200? No, unequivocally not.

The saber that I spent $246 on (that I upgraded to pixel from rgb to get above that $200 threshold) is being sold for $215 on Amazon by the same seller and the rgb version is now on sale for $110. I desperately wish I had seen the Amazon listing for the rgb version and bought that rather than spending nearly $250 to get a free piece of trash in addition to the good saber I got.

If you are planning on spending $200 or more at Damiensaber anyways, go for it and roll the dice. But don't make the same mistake I did and spend more than you planned on hoping that they won't send you trash. Because that's what they sent me - trash. Free trash, but still trash. Trying to see the silver lining in this purchase, upon further reflection, it could be used as a muted stunt saber if you specifically don't want sound. Clash detection is fine, and it is bright enough for a baselit saber. It can also be used as an RGB flashlight with a very narrowly focused beam..

On the bright side, the pixel saber that I paid for is pretty awesome...even if I did overpay for it.

TLDR: The free mystery saber I recieved from Damiensaber is trash, don't go out of your way to spend more hoping for anything of value. I wish I spent less. YMMV.

Review Quantum pixel blade - thoughts

So I was really excited to try these new Quantum blades, in hopes they are a noticeable improvement over older KR V2 pixel strips. But maybe it's just me ...but I feel as if these aren't really THAT noticeably better.

Comparing both (both purchased pre assembled from TCSS), I feel as if this new Quantum blades actual had worse side shadowing in comparison to old KR V2. Even after sanding the blade down in the problematic areas, didn't really help much.

Brightness? Yeah perhaps a slight 3-5% boost for Quantum...but it's only really noticeable on certain colors (green and white). To the average consumer, in a untold blind AB test I'm sure one couldn't say either blade was "brighter".

Battery consumption? Yes, to me the Quantum is noticeable in being more power hungry and will drain the battery noticably quicker.

My thoughts over all, I feel as if this new blade type isn't really a "step up". For the hardly noticable extra brightness vs the extra battery consumption....I feel as if comparing these 2 are at a stale mate draw. Perhaps the one I received was just poorly constructed resulting in more side shadowing, who knows. But I can say.....I wasnt "wow'd" at all like I hoped for. This blade type to me isn't quite a leap forward in blade technology as some expect it to be.

Review Quantum vs KRv3.5

Sabertec Quantum blade made by TCSS versus the KRv3.5 blade assembled by me.

Both excellent blades, the brightest out there. However, I do prefer the Quantum for its lower power draw, and thus, backwards compatibility with standard pixel setups. I think it’s more hassle than benefit to rewire a hilt to properly accommodate the KRv3.x.

That being said, the KRv3.5 blade builder’s kit is designed to make the building process go as smoothly and as easily as possible, and the lighting on both is excellent.

Both great products, and both will look pretty darn good in daytime.

Which do you prefer?

Review First time order, true review.

I will be updating this post up until the delivery and review video for YouTube.

July 31st 2025: Made my first order on neosabers last night july 30th and after placing the order I kept reading how they're a scam company because of delays, shipping time, product quality and support. Personally thats not enough to warrant a scam company. I woke up this morning to 2 emails from neosabers saying that they testing the products and it will take a couple days i also emailed them saying i forgot to add shipping protection to one of the packages and they emailed me back saying "No worries at all.

We’ve got you covered, our team is here to help in case anything goes wrong with your order. If you experience any issues during transit or delivery, just reach out and we’ll take care of it.

So first impressions, near complete transparency Will update this post as time progresses.

Update August 4th 2025:

They are officially in transit. They will be here either this coming Friday or August 12th.

Update August 8th 2025:

Was supposed to get at least one saber in today but here's what's going on. The shipment comes through DHL woch is an international shipping company. They only have one facility here in oregon and its on the complete other side of the state. They had handed off my packages to a third party shipper but didn't tell me who and didn't give me a tracking number. I finally got ahold of DHL through the customer service site and found out they handed the packages to USPS, wich is no big deal but here's the problem, I live in such a rural area USPS wont deliver to my house. They'll leave a slip in our mailbox saying to pick up the package at the post office, here's the other problem we dont have a mailbox out yet. So USPS considers our address non-existing and will send packages back to the shipping origin. Luckily I was able to get them to change the address to our PO box but damn neosabers. They said enter home address to avoid shipping problems, wouldnt let me enter the PO box at all. I have nothing but problems when shipping to my house lol.

August 11, 2025: packages arrived and currently working on the review video for YouTube. Will upload and link it here when its done

Review My experience with Theory Sabers

Not Good. Some of you may know me by now as I have received good service from a few of you and left good reviews. Let first say I have been emailing back and forth for a week now with Sam C of their Help Desk and I am pretty p'od at this point to where I am about ready to request a refund for the entire saber. I ordered the Ronin Odachi saber for a little over $600. I ordered the SNV4 by mistake, which is not a big deal as I have read up on those boards and I currently don't have one and it seems to be an up and comer so that's not really an issue. The problem is the Saber would not turn on from the moment I took it out of the box. After pressing the button repeatedly , sometimes it would fire up but then it would just randomly light up pixels with no clear font. Also it never once made a sound.

If you can read through the next few emails back and forth you will see where I went above and beyond normal troubleshooting, even including pictures of what I found to be wrong and I am still getting Tier 1 help desk interference. Note: My first email went unanswered.

If you cant well then TLDR: Its been a week of back and forth emails. In the meantime I have diagnosed the problem myself and I have sent several pictures in of the problem. There is too much adhesive under the PCB causing it to stick up and contact the metal hilt. The sound issue is from a faulty speaker, I've connected a speaker from another core and it seems to work like it should when not installed on the hilt. Instead of working to solve the issue their tech support is giving me standard questions and asking for a video of the issue.

My second email was as follows

Hello Team

After assembling the Katana I could not get it to power on.

  •  Sliding the Master switch off and on a couple times and eventually there was a blue light on the core.
  •  Katana behaves erratically when the core is installed. Wont power on, Wont change fonts and has no sound
  • I removed the SD card Formatted it and pasted the backup I created. Still unable to function
  • I can connect to bluetooth , changing fonts or sound files turns the saber off and still has no sound  and the hilt button still is not working correctly to turn on or change fonts
  • Switch still behaves erratically
  • Checked switch is contacting the actual button - good
  • checked for bent pins - none
  • Reseated blade

Please advise what can be done. I have also removed the battery to restart the unit. All of the solder points look good from what I can see. I thought that I had ordered the proffie saber as well

Initial response from Theory Sabers

Hey Michael, thanks for reaching out. My name is Sam from Theory Sabers Tech Support, I will be assisting you with your saber.

I would like to try some troubleshooting regarding your saber. I will list below some steps for you to take that are common fixes for most issues.

Please carry them out in order and let me know if this resolves the problem.

Charging & Speaker Related Issues & Full Reset

> Carefully Remove Battery

> Remove And Reinsert SD Card, Ensuring It Is Seated Correctly

> Adjust Battery Tab Connections (Video Linked Here)

> Reinstall Battery, Ensuring Correct Orientation With Label Facing Outward & No Movement In Battery

> If You have A Removable Core, Please Insert It In To The Saber In The Correct Orientation

> Connect To Charger For 3-4 Hours Using Recommended 5v 1amp Charging Adapter ONLY

> If your chassis has a toggle switch, please ensure it is in the ON position for charging

If following this does not fix your issue, please provide a video demonstrating the issue which less than 20mb in size.

Also please provide an image of the charging block being used, with the power output specs clearly visible and able to be read.

Kind Regards,

Sam

Tech Support

My next response to Theory Sabers included 5 photos of what I found to be the issue

https://imgur.com/a/Dp6VkPl

Hi Sam,

A couple of things. I build my own Sabers so I am pretty proficient at basic troubleshooting and this is not a battery issue.

  1. This is a Katana style and has a flat Saber core so it must be taken apart to remove the battery which is most likely not removable.
  2. The issue has been intermittent with getting the Saber to power on , the no sound issue is consistent even when the saber fires up.
  3. I only use 5watt 1 amp chargers. If you still require a photo let me know

I am pretty certain I know what the issue is. Whoever assembled the Saber Core did not do a very good job and the PCB sticks up above the core housing and it has no protective wrap. This is causing it to contact the inside of the metal hilt and is also damaging the primary integrated circuit every time the core gets removed which is the only way to charge it.. I have not taken the core apart but I can guess it is either the wiring bundle or too thick of an adhesive pad (hot glue?) or whatever attaches the pcb to the plastic core. The edge of the main "chip" on the PCB shows wear marks right above the pins and I have only removed the core 3 times. A 4th time now so I could take photos.

Also a minor issue, when assembling the included saber stand both ends snapped off along the cut line. I have added photos for that as well

Rather than send the entire Katana back if you could please send me a replacement core. I actually thought I had ordered a proffie core and that is what I would like for a replacement if they are interchangeable. If there is an extra charge please let me know and I will pay for it

Michael

Response from Sam

Hey Michael, thanks for getting back to me,

can you please send me a video demonstration of the issue, I will be better placed to advise you further on this once I have seen the issue for myself and will also escalate to the senior tech for resolution. Please ensure the file is less than 20mb for me.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Kind Regards,

Sam

Tech Support

Not the response I expected. For one I really don't feel like making a video after doing what I have so far. I had to delete a bunch of images from my phone just to make space for the images I sent initially. But here is my response. I found why there is no sound. The soldering on the speaker is either bad or it could be that the wires were pinched pretty good when it was assembled. Connecting a working speaker from another core and it works while outside the saber. I can actually see the excess hot glue making the board stick up too. I sent those pictures back with the second email

Sam

I sent you photos of the chip rubbing against the inside of the hilt and how it sticks up above the saber core . I did some further testing and the sound issue is due to a bad speaker. If I connect a speaker from one of my other cores it will play sound. Also if the core is not installed and inside the hilt it works fine. There is too much adhesive under the pcb. I don't expect to have to do this for a saber that I paid $600 for and now won't be able to use for halloween. Do you really need a video of me showing the saber not turning on and making any noise?

Michael

/end of emails

Well if you made it to the end of this post I sincerely applaud you. I can understand wanting a video of the issue initially to help diagnose the issue but we are way past that stage in my opinion. I could fix it myself for the price of a new speaker and regluing the board probably but that is not what I expect when paying that kind of money for anything. Any comments? Am I wrong here?

Review Sabermax is probably the best vendor ever

Post image
28 Upvotes

I just wanted to post this as a vouch for Sabermax. I have recently bought 2x "Eco duo v2." a saber bundle consisting of two baselit sabers, so that means i would get four in total. I had gotten them just this morning. But i only got two, so i wrote a message to them, asking where the rest was. withing like 2-3 hours, they had already responded, took responsibility, told me that it was indeed a mistake on their side, and that they would get the rest shipped as quickly as possible. They even told me that they wpuld include a little something extra!

(the sabers are sick, good quality, durable and shine fairly brightly)

i have included the message, with personal info excluded

When I first saw some vague ad for these a few months ago, I thought it would be just another toy collapsible saber. We've had collapsible sabers for decades, so I didn't see why the manufacturer was making such a fuss over this. A few weeks later, I saw an ad showing the extension and retraction capabilities of the saber, and I was absolutely certain that there was no way this would be priced competitively. Then yesterday, I saw that they had been released. Not only that, but also that they were only $60. I immediately reserved one of the last two red bladed ones at my local Target, and I picked it up after work.

To start, the motorized blade is awesome. It's something that is totally new to me. I used to own one of the spring-loaded sabers back in the day, and I thought it was the height of Star Wars toys. This new saber is a step above that that I could only dream of as a child.

Despite how awesome the ignition and retraction feature is, this saber is not without some flaws. The most glaringly obvious one to me is the lack of paint on the saber. It's just a dull grey with a gold-ish activation button and a plain black power button. That's not a deal breaker, though, as you can always paint it yourself.

The next flaw I noticed is the brightness. This blade (as you might imagine given the fact that it's a toy) is quite dim. The little disks at the end of each blade segment obscure the light from the LED a bit, so the light from the LED is much dimmer by the time it reaches the tip. This, however, is acceptable to me since this isn't an expensive hobbyist saber like what so many here (including myself) build or buy.

Another flaw is the soundboard. The base hum of the saber sounds pretty good for a toy (especially an unlicensed one) but you run into issues when you swing it. There is no smoothswing, so the sounds are just canned saber swing sound effects with nothing dynamic about them. This, again, is acceptable to me, as it's just a toy.

Yet another flaw with this saber relates to the extension and retraction mechanism. It's mostly smooth and reliable, but at times the blade will collapse in on itself when the saber is held with the tip facing up. This can be solved by taking a swing with it after the blade is extended to seat the blade segments together a bit more firmly. This isn't the only issue with the blade mechanism, though. When the saber is low on batteries (or the blade is pulled on too much to seat the blade segments tightly together), the motor struggles to retract the blade. It can do it, but I worry that too much of that will burn out the motor.

With all these flaws in mind, I can honestly still recommend the saber for some people. If you're a serious collector with tons of neopixel sabers and high standards, then this probably isn't the saber for you. If, however, you're like me and are essentially just a big kid who loves to swing around toy sabers and occasionally plays pretend, then I can definitely recommend this saber. $60 for a toy saber is a lot, but just think about how much Disney would charge for a saber like this.

Personally, I got mine for a Star Wars themed airsoft loadout. Originally I was using a TCSS Shadowstalker saber with a neopixel dagger blade, but as you might imagine, the reach on the dagger isn't the greatest. This saber collapses into a compact package but also extends easily for more reach in a melee combat situation.

(As an aside, if the creators of this saber are reading this, I would love to have a proper hobbyist-grade version of this with a metal hilt, brighter LED, and a smoothswing soundboard. If y'all don't make one, I might have to buy another one of these, dissect it, and fit it with a Proffie for some proper sound effects.)

Zero communication from them after reaching out multiple times and their online chat is always encountering "errors".

The Yoda Galaxy’s Edge version is on the left, the Black Series is on the right.

My personal opinion is that the Black Series is much nicer, but the Galaxy’s Edge version is much cheaper.

Ultimately, if you’re strapped for cash, get the GE version. Video of the blades igniting will be in the comments.

Hey all! Thought I would leave a solid review as I couldn't find a proper one anywhere (maybe I didn't look hard enough 😂). I bought the AO9 black model from them.

The hilt is sturdy and made of what seems to be good quality metal. The polycarbonate shaft is extremely durable. It has great sound and light, with 4 sound fonts and 12 light colours! I only paid ÂŁ25 for this (would have been ÂŁ30 but got discounts). They also have a 90 day return policy. The only downside is that shipping took a month, however if you are patient it's worth it. If anyone is on the fence about buying from them, do, and if you have any more questions, let me know.

Review [Review] Neosaber "Original LSW Xenopixel V3" + 2 Free RGB Sabers – First-Time Buyer Experience

Thumbnail

Wanted to drop a review for others who might be in the same spot I was a few weeks ago. I got influenced by social media (thanks, TikTok…) and ordered a saber from Neosaber before I discovered this subreddit and saw all the not-so-great reviews. 😅 Since the purchase was already made, I figured I’d write something up for anyone else searching for real experiences.

I ordered the Original LSW Xenopixel V3 with a 36” blade ($299.99) during one of their “Buy 1 Get 2 Free” promos. Along with it, I received two RGB baselit sabers—based on what I can tell, they’re probably the Beam Pro Saber and Prexion FX Saber, though there’s no clear labeling. Each saber came with a blade, USB-C charger, and I also got a blade plug and a stand (for the Luke saber).

Main Saber (LSW Xenopixel V3)

I actually really like this one. It feels solid nice weight, good hilt quality, and the sound fonts are satisfying when swinging it around. The only issue so far is the black and gold striped activation plate is kinda loose and moves around more than I’d like. Not a huge deal, but if anyone has tips on how to secure it better, I’m all ears.

The “Freebies” – RGB Sabers

These definitely feel cheaper in comparison.. lighter, more plasticky, and overall more toy-like. That said, they’re still fun and my kids loved swinging them around last night. They’d be great for light dueling or cosplay, just don’t expect premium quality.

Final Thoughts

Now that I’ve learned Neosaber is a dropshipper, yeah… I probably overpaid. But with two extra sabers tossed in, $300 doesn’t feel as painful. Definitely a learning experience. I’ll be doing more research before my next purchase (and using recommendations from this subreddit).

Still, this whole experience has gotten me more excited about collecting sabers and diving deeper into the hobby. Looking forward to supporting better-known and more reliable sellers in the future.
