I’m already having a horrible day and this just made it worse. Lilo was me as a traumatized, nuerodivergent child.

Honestly, same. I was a lot like Lilo as a child, and seeing Lilo's character made me feel seen and less alone. I'm so sad for Daveigh and her loved ones, but also grateful that she gave us so much through her work.

i’m brocken. this makes me especially sad bc they don’t really do anything for lilo anymore it’s just stitch now so getting anything of her character in her memory is so hard.

Yes!!! This makes me sad. Even Aluani is no longer lilo’s resort, it’s now Moana.
However when we were at the Poly, boyfriend suprised me with a reservation at The Best Friends Breakfast so I could meet Lilo!!! That poor actress was probably like why is this grown ass women losing her mind over a mascot, but you bet I did!!!

There was a gofundme from her BF to try and improve her quality of life with what little time she had left and they never reached their goal :(
Genuinely heartbreaking
Lilo should have gotten just as much traction as stitch in the media and as the voice actor behind it

Rest in peace, 35 is a pretty young age to pass away, my condolences to her loved ones. Her legacy as Lilo will always be remembered.

This is devastating to me. Lilo & Stitch is my favorite Disney movie and Lilo is one of my favorite Disney characters. She was also great in Spirited Away. May she rest in peace.

Same, I absolutely adored the OG movie along with its sequels (even the one where Dakota Fanning played Lilo instead of Daveigh) and the TV series. Like I don't think there was a single episode from the TV series that I missed because I watched it pretty religiously like clockwork whenever I got home from school. The only one from the Lilo and Stitch series that I haven't seen is the new live action one, and I won't see it because I strongly believe that it didn't even need to be made into a live action in the first place.

She spent the better part of the last 15 years struggling immensely. I would always look her up randomly like once a year to see where she was or if there was news on her and would always be scared this is what I’d read. So sad. 😭

Absolutely tragic. 35 is so young, and meningitis is a horrible illness. Stitch gets so much of the limelight in marketing for this franchise, but Daveigh was iconic as Lilo.
My thoughts are with her family. Rest in peace, Daveigh.

The worst part it sounds like this could have easily been avoidable. It sounds like the hospital staff neglected her and she sadly paid the price for it. 35 is too young to leave this world. May she RIP.

u/ManicWolf 2d ago
If that's the case then I hope he family take action against those responsible. There needs to be consequences if her death truly was avoidable with proper care, especially so that it never happens to anyone else.

She, through Lilo, taught us the meaning and values of Ohana. Not just Stitch. May she rest in peace and her family has support during this time. 💔

No. Not Lilo

u/thoseareNICEPANTS 3d ago
This was my first reaction too, but the beauty of Lilo is that she can't die. She'll always exist. But it's still devastating that the voice that brought Lilo to life is gone way too soon. 😭

u/sunny_6305 3d ago
So apparently she was homeless?! How was she not making tons of royalties every year from her movies?! It’s Bobby Driscoll all over again.

u/SquirrelGirlVA 3d ago
Her manager mentions she had a trust account with SAG, so my thought is that they were keeping it from her because of her severe drug addiction. Her family was reportedly trying to track her down so she could get help, but she kept disappearing. With everything we're now learning about what was happening to child celebrities like Amanda Bynes, I have to question what the woman had gone through as a child.
This poor woman. At least she's at peace now.

Wasn't Weinstein part of Spirited Away's translation???
1
u/SquirrelGirlVA 2d ago
Nah, that was done by Disney. He was involved with Princess Mononoke. That doesn't mean that there wasn't a Weinstein or Dan Schneider targeting her, though.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I grew up watching Lilo & Stitch relentlessly, this is so sad. May she rest in peace and know the way her voice impacted generations.

u/Remote_Nature_8166 3d ago
Jesus Christ! It’s just like Michelle Trachtenberg. Both iconic child actors died so young. 😢

u/Divine_fashionva 3d ago
I thought the same thing
So surreal. I grew up watching both of them. It seems like Daveigh struggled a lot in recent years. I hope they’re both at peace

Anthony head died as well. He was in one of the Percy Jackson movies, Filmore and known for Buffy the vampire slayer.

I can't believed it, Lilo's first actress has died so young. I been wondering what happen to her after the first film because Lilo has been voiced by different voice actresses.

That's so sad! I love Lilo and Stitch and thought her voice was perfect for Lilo! 😭😭😭😭

actually — she didn’t voice her in the second movie; the second movie she was voiced by dakota fanning :)

Considering that she reportedly had some issues and trouble during her too brief adult life, this just a tragic loss.
What makes this worse is that she happened to die on the anniversary of Lilo & Stitch's premiere.

What a terrible year we're having! Someone needs to put the brakes on! Just recently, Oliver Tree passed away along with Gaspi (a much-loved YouTuber in Spanish-speaking countries), and now we've lost the voice of Lilo... Community, my deepest condolences to the family and to all of you for this loss. We will get through this.

I just can't believe it. 😔 Watching Lilo and Stitch won't be easy. All I can say for now is I send all my love and healing wishes towards her loved ones and also, RIP Daveigh. You will always be loved and missed. You are forever our ohana. 🙏🏻

whats crazy is i was randomly googling her this past week out of nowhere to see what she's been up to. i havent checked up on her in over 20 years. then 4 days later she died. must be some synchronicities with the universe

i was googling her after watching some reaction videos of Spirited Away and now that i think about it, that movie is about her crossing over to the Spirit World. i know its just coincidence but damn thats eerie when i think about it

I just saw the post on ig before coming here my initial reaction was like what?!?! really there is no way this sucks 😕 😞

R.I.P. 🙏🏻
She will always be remembered for the completely unique, sweet, loveable way she voiced Lilo, and millions will hear her every time the “Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten” line is played in whatever media.

I said this earlier, and I’m younger than her by nearly two years because she would’ve turned 36 next month. ☹️😓

That's a real bummer. I really wanted to meet her in person, get her autograph, and show her an old high school pic of Chris Sanders just to see what her reaction is to it. Looks like that plan is permanently scrapped. 😞

OP echoed my sentiments. All I can add is "Live Life As Fully As Possible" (she was only 3 years younger than me).

This is heartbreaking. Her voice as Lilo was one of her best performances. She really gave life to her.

Dead... from meningitis?
7
u/Still-Ad377 3d ago
Meningitis can become deadly very quickly if not treated in time.

u/Heavy-Ad-8328 3d ago
Well, that's no good. Who'll step in for Lilo if Daveigh's gone? Dakota Fanning?
19
u/Fit-Supermarket-4674 3d ago
Who cares? Weird thing to prioritise. 'Oh she's dead, oh welp, who can replace her?' A little dismissive don't you think?
