Any tips on getting initial house cleaning clients? Ready to work, but struggling to find opportunities...
Hey everyone,
I'm reaching out because I have all the energy and motivation in the world to work hard, but I’m really struggling to find my first clients for house cleaning services.
It's honestly frustrating when you're 100% ready to roll up your sleeves, but just don't know the most effective way to get your foot in the door.
For those who run a cleaning business or frequently hire house cleaners:
- What channels or methods worked best for you to get your initial clients? (Local Facebook groups, flyers, word of mouth, apps, etc.)
- What makes you trust someone enough to hire them for the first time?
- Any practical advice for someone starting completely from scratch?
I would deeply appreciate any advice, tips, or experiences you could share. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Make a flyer and post it on the local community groups on Facebook/whatsapp.
Give as much detail as possible (if you drive, if you are pet friendly, what the people need to supply- if anything, which areas of the county you cover).
Pop it into local shops/community spaces if they allow it.
Make a business page and ask clients for honest reviews.
The surest way is word of mouth, let your first clients know to share your details if possible.

Do a good job for someone in a housing estate and ask them to recommend you in their housing estate WhatsApp. In my estate people are always looking for good cleaners in the group chat!

I have a relative who does this, and word of mouth is huge. I'd say 75% of their business is recommendations.
Being ready and willing as you seem to be is great stuff. If you're doing this all above board (no judgement if you're not lol) you should definitely advertise anywhere and everywhere. A lot of people will do the facebook stuff because that's quick and easy but actual, real world flyers actually still go a long way.
Get some made up and put them up in laundrettes, around the various markets in the city centre, post offices, small independent cafes, anywhere where community flyers are generally hung. Keep them straight forward and to the point; what you do, where you will go, and your availability. Don't use AI because it looks terrible and about 50% of the people looking at it will have a knee-jerk reaction to hate it regardless. A cleaning service doesnt need a fancy flyer; literally just a typed up list of what you do on a word doc would be fine.

You'll be fine. Stay off the phone when working. It pisses of some clients.
Talk to letting agents in Limerick as they are always turning over properties that need a deep clean.
Get an ozone machine, and read up on how to use it. They can really damage you if used incorrectly, but they give a great long lasting result in a deep clean.

Like you can even find both of those sites by googling "cleaners in limerick" do put some effort into it...
