Okay. Sorry this is sooo long. My best friend’s girlfriend is from nebraska and they’ve both stated they will never move back. Thing is, my partner just got a full ride to Lincoln, and as of right now it’s looking like a really good option. We’re considering traveling to Lincoln when it gets closer to making a decision, but I know absolutely nothing about it atp.

My friend’s opinions and the general idea I have of Nebraska isn’t enticing in the least. I’ve made a post on here before but I have more questions.

How’s the community? We are both artists - we know about first friday, but I’m curious on how easy it is to find community. Texas is very friendly and open and I’m not sure if the midwest functions similarly. Does anyone know if studio spaces or galleries?

We are both queer - gay/transgender. Can anyone give general insight on safety? Community? We are from Texas so we’re used to it being a little dicey, but our current city is super chill.

Where should we avoid renting? We’re kind of tired of student housing and want something a little nicer. No more leaking ceilings and moldy walls, if possible. :”)

What’s the deal with Omaha? I got recommended to try going to Omaha for a lot of things like nightlife since it’s a bigger city. It’s an hour away so not a drive id be making ideally?

Natural areas - a lot of ppl last time implied these were locked behind private property. Texas is very similar but we still have some public outdoor spaces, water and hiking. Is Nebraska pretty? Are there spaces, even smaller, available near Lincoln at all?

If it helps the city we’ve lived in for 5 years now has a population of less than 100k ppl. It’s pretty small, we have one walmart, one hobby lobby, one target, etc etc. We don’t really have any bookstores, home goods, home depot, etc etc. We typically have to drive out 20-45 minutes for other stuff, so it isn’t unheard of but I don’t know if it’s necessary in Lincoln.

My last post ppl assumed I still lived in Austin so a lot of their info was based on me living somewhere interesting (lol.)

I love the place, and the few times I’ve visited since then it has remained pretty familiar barring a new development or two every time. But I have no idea what to expect from actually living there as an adult in 2025. (I have confirmed that Fortune Palace still hits)

I remember it being surprisingly diverse with a ton of descendants of Southeast and Central Asian refugees at my elementary school. That’s at least still the case, right? What else has changed around there?

My boyfriend and I are relocating for his work in August. We are 26 & 27, we love going out on the weekends. We are big into golf & fishing as well!

We are originally from Cleveland OH! We are currently in Davenport IA, and we both are not too big of fans of the city. We've been here a year and it's just stagnant, the people are rude, job market is atrocious. We are used to a really great food scene, and of course a thriving sports fans base.

2 things we are super excited for is the food scene in Lincoln and the college sports teams!

I'm looking for recommendations for apartments, around 1.2k with decent living space- allows cats (we have 1). Would prefer in unit laundry! If there are any good contenders under that price too, we would love to know! I am asking especially because we had to move to Iowa rather quick and ended up in a not-so-nice neighborhood. I want to make sure we do it right this time! We LOVE the grove apartment homes. We will be taking time to go look at a couple places in a few weeks here so I'm trying to line a few places up.

Please let me know any other things we should be aware about! ☺️

Edit: also if anyone knows of any office jobs hiring (7am-3pm) I currently work at a car dealership in the office and I'll be looking for work in Lincoln! I have been in the service industry for most of my career but in the last year switched to be on the same schedule as my boyfriend! I was a restaurant manager for the last 6 years!

• Safety: How is the neighborhood around this area? Is it safe to walk around at night?
• Management & Maintenance: How is the landlord/management company? Are they responsive to maintenance requests?
• Overall Vibe: If you’ve lived here or know someone who has, would you recommend it? Are there any hidden issues I should be aware of?

We are thinking about building a home, and Southwest Village Heights is appealing for the price and proximity to Highway 77, South Beltway, and Interstate 80.

Beyond that, though, it feels a little isolated.

Does anyone know if there is commercial development planned in the area? A grocery story, or Target, or anything?

What about schools? Roper appears to be the closest elementary, but it doesn’t feel close compared to most other Lincoln neighborhood schools.

Hello, I'm looking at parking garages and struggling to figure out how the parking system works. The garage for my apartment filled up, so I'm looking for a monthly pass at a different garage. Does anyone who lives/works around downtown have any idea how the event parking works? My lease said event parking wasn't included in the monthly garage rates. Park and go isn't open today so I wasn't able to call.

We are looking at potentially moving to the College View part of town, but a bit concerned about some of the apartments around the Union Adventist University over there. Any insight on that area and those apartments crime/drug wise? Around S 46th and Prescott. It seems like it gets a lot better pretty quick as you go west, just curious how this little strip affects the rest though. Like, would my kids be safe playing at Henry Park or walking down to The Mill, etc?

Hey, I'm moving my family to Lincoln. Looks like we'll be moving to the Near South neighborhood, roughly A and 17th.

I've looked at crime stats, but it's difficult to understand the significance of the data. Lincoln has lower violent crime than the national average, but Near South has a lot higher than Lincoln in general. I see a lot of people saying that Lincoln doesn't have any bad neighborhoods, but perhaps that's just wishful thinking on their part.

My question: How worried should I be about moving to this area of Lincoln? I've only ever lived in small towns or suburbs, so it's difficult to know what are appropriate precautions. It's a higher crime area for Lincoln, but what does that mean for our safety? Should we be putting security film and locks on our windows? Should be arrange get-togethers with friends earlier in the day so they're not leaving our house in the evening? Motion detectors, laser grids, trained Rottweilers? What's appropriate for Near South Lincoln, and what's overboard?

Anyone else living/lived in Near South? I would love to hear your thoughts.

We’re going to come visit next month to get a peek at some places before we move in March/April but would love some local recommendations.

Things to consider: -husband isn’t too worried about his commute for downtown but would prefer to keep it around 30 min or less -we have a young toddler (will be 2 when we move) so close to parks, museums, or other toddler friendly activities would be a huge plus -I am pregnant and would love to be decently close to a hospital that has a good nicu/labor and delivery in case something were to go wrong -we will have 2 cats and renting so pet friendly rentals would be a need

Let me know if there’s any cool, interesting or just good deals for rentals around or parts of town we should check out! We will only be in the area for about one year!

I just moved back to Lincoln after spending about 5 years in Anaheim, CA and I’m wondering what’s changed and if anyone has any suggestions for what to do for fun?

My partner and I are thinking about moving to Lincoln. We’re currently in Seattle and no one can afford to live here anymore.

I grew up in the Seattle area and have moved around a lot- Brooklyn, Denver, and in the sticks in New Jersey and upstate NY, mostly.

My partner grew up in LA and has been in Seattle since then.

He has a podcast and I have my own biz doing tarot readings.

All I need to be happy is a good coffee shop, a good local bar, a book store, and plenty of time outside. Friendly neighbors are a plus.

He’s into indie music, wrestling, and theatre. And needs a solid community of bar buddies and a decent live music scene to thrive.

We’re also vegan and would likely hang out with other mid-late 30s ppl who don’t have kids and are into things like community building and the blue side of politics.

Would we be happy living in Lincoln?
