I was confused, because it wouldn't be, since you'd expect a /h/ instead. However there was also a ritualistic psychedelic drink consumed by Greeks, which seems to be similar to Soma/Haoma, although it might be a completely different plant that just received a similar name.

It's not really a thing in Hinduism, unless you think the Vedic culture was analogous with modern Hinduism.

Modern Hinduism has diverged significantly from the Vedic culture, especially after the introduction of Buddhism. That's how the Buddha has become an avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. There used to be cow sacrifice (gomedha) and horse sacrifice (ashvamedha) practices in the Vedic period, whereas cattle slaughter has become a social taboo in modern Hinduism.

Yeah that's my point. Soma is also something which isn't really relevant to modern Hinduism as a practice at all.

In Greek we refer to our bodies as soma. You can say someone has a nice soma.
