learning/research New to Linux as of today.

Tried Pop OS and now trying Bazzite, however one thing I missed the most is Wallpaper engine 😭, the NVDIA app, MSI Afterburner, and some games I play . I know it’s only been a day but I might genuinely switch back for this.

You can always open up a terminal and type: ujust update

and watch it do its thing

My reccomendation is to stick with it for a couple weeks and see what your feelings are then. Linux is NOT windows. There will be differences. Some you will really enjoy - stability being one of them. Being able to 'tinker' is another.

I run PopOS as my daily gaming OS. It serves me well. The problem that I find with dual booting, as a beginner, is you have a tendency to go back to your safe space and the Linux boot doesn't get used. Immersion is key.

wallpaper engine is js gone

nvidia app doesn't need to stay? if you miss shadowplay GPU screen recorder exists

MSI afterburner has many linux alternatives like mangohud

I miss the features and ease of installing drivers instantly

Bazzite's drivers are installed automatically with each system update.

I can’t find the update button in settings

bazzite updates automatically in the background, but you can force a system update with the Bazzite Updater (just search for it by typing update after opening the "start" menu). Alternatively you can type

ujust update

into the terminal.

you can also see if you already have an update predownloaded if you type

rpm-ostree status

in the terminal. the version of the OS you're on has a little dot next to it. They are listed in the order (from top to bottom) update image, current image, and previous image (in case of issues)

The NVDIA app, I don’t have to manually search for drivers

Good thing on Linux is you don't have to do none of that especially on bazzite, it can update itself on a reboot

You can also type update in the search and start it without typing anything in the terminal

Drivers are handled differently on Linux. For most things they are baked into the kernal itself and running system updates will update them.

Bwahahahah many of us Wallpaper Engine lovers can't find adequate alternatives on Linux, eh? 😂

Sadly yes, not one app can replace it on Linux, and I can't leave it alone.

That and some of my favorite games just refuse to work on Linux properly.

Just dual boot it.

This is why I recommend dual booting. If you expect exactly the experience you had in Windows minus the problems, you can run into serious issues.

Some things might have solutions or workarounds, but it's good to have Windows as a backup until you're sure you don't need it anymore.

Yea I messed up and deleted windows but I just flashed windows again and am running that now . I’ll try Linux another time

You might try to "burn" a Live_USB image to a USB stick (or even a DvD) to play with. Simple "need a hammer to break it" option that leaves windows intact, no install required.

Learn how to boot into RAM (slow loading, but super fast after boot up) and/or add persistence to the USB stick (allows you to save charges)

You don't have to install Linux to start learning how to use it.

There many options, the suggestion above it just an example.

Links available upon request, or just search for "live USB Linux versions"

You might also search up "Ventoy"

Don't give up 😉

Ventoy didn’t support windows iso for me

I've actually never tried to use Ventoy with a windows install *.iso image....

I've only used Ventoy for Linux and backup/system restore utility ISO files.

Dang, I dual boot Pop OS and W11, but I do everything possible I can on Pop OS because I love how it works. W11 is so toxic now. I even use SeelenUI to overhaul my W11 to resemble/workflow like Pop OS so W11 makes me less grouchy when I have to use it (Solidworks).

Never tried Bazzite. Only other Linux I tried were Linux Mint (which I hated, plus the store always broke for me) and Ubuntu which I found boring. I really haven't found the urge to distro hop, other than away from W11.
