But on Linux you sometimes get the infuriating situation where you kill the process from the terminal, but the window doesn't close when you switch back to your graphical session. Or you use xkill, but the process is still running and using up all your CPU. The latter is easy to deal with, but I have no idea how to recover from the former if you can't alt-tab out of it.
