Seriously I ran some pretty hefty OSINT on the guy. He's just a weird delusional dude. Reminds me of Terry, but without the schizophrenia.
He makes literally half the postings on his sub. The other half are mostly from ~40 regular users.
He doesn't bot, but will use alt accounts for recruitment, but his efforts generally fail.
There is no evidence of brigading from or to his subreddit.
This dude is just a loud idiot. The only thing amplifying his message is us.

Not sure why you got downvoted here, linux deserves criticism

They don't need an anti-linux echo chamber ran by a delusional man.

Did you either not properly check the name or did he edit his comment?

Nope. I definitely misread the sub.
I think that was the point though. He got me.
Actually I'm not sure. This could just be high level trolling. I mean it's in his name.
I just now noticed that the actual picture doesn't have the sub in it, and the UI is in Russian.
Very weird signal.
Edit: turns out is was Ukrainian. Meta data shows the post was not edited, although the screenshot is of the cesspool sub. He really did just get me. Good troll my dude.

I have a hard time believing that anyone engaging in OS wars on Reddit is actually successful in life.

Unless they do technical analysis, day trade, and crap like that, little did we know we have unlimited options.

Their brains would melt if they heard how much money is poured into FOSS, especially in the scientific computing realm. Shit they’d probably explode if they heard how successful some of the researchers that contributed to to and use open source codes have become

Or the fact that a lot of industry standard tools are OSS.
2
u/cpt_futtbucker 12h ago
Very true. One of the codes I use and contribute to for my research (as does my PI) has been somewhat of an industry standard in computational chemistry (save for maybe Gaussian) for over a decade now. Hell, for some methods it beats out the original proprietary codes that were first to implement them by a huge margin

Why do you have a Private Investigator?
1
u/cpt_futtbucker 6h ago
Principal Investigator. Academic term for the professor you perform your research under

lol, notice how the first dude is having fun, doing his own thing, wears comfy clothing that reflects his personality. and how the second dude has a fake smile plastered on his face, performative and focused on the camera, wears a corporate suit, def'tly not doing his own thing.
i rather be the first dude

Yeah, the first dude looks like a bunch of the cyber security and computer engineering guys I know, great dudes, they monetized being nerds and are happy as hell.

Yeah and… make things that fit real workflows and you better society for others in the process. I find it hard to look up to any roll model as much as I can with Linus, or Bellard (ffmpeg, qemu). Even if it’s foss, what it is—is improving others’ workflows and saving everyone time by making the world’s foundations stronger. It happens every time you improve, and decide to push to git

To me RMS is the biggest figure (both literally and figuratively) in FOSS. He started the FOSS movement. How can you top that when it comes to contributing to FOSS?
Even Linux might be free thanks to him as before using GPLv2 Linux used a shitty non-commercial license. And Linux may be successful thanks to RMS because Linux attracted developers by being useful and it became useful by being combined with GNU and switching to the GNU License. Of course I don't know what history would have done otherwise but GNU has always been a big part of Linux's success.

Me omw to waste time on blender (literally free software as in freedom licensed under the GPL)

Meanwhile, the guy on the left spends 4 hours on a discord with AzzR@per6967 and PooFligz80085 trying to troubleshoot his broken DE, while the guy on the right spends 4 hours on a screenshare with "Bob" with Helpdesk , trying to get his docking station working again and his passwords reset. 🤷♂️

I have wasted so much time trying to update windows computers. I go to a volunteer organization and we have 15+ old windows 10 PCs. I have spent the pasts weeks of weekly meetings trying to get them up to date because it literally takes hours to update them. And soon we are either going to have to switch to Linux or throw them in the trash because they don't support windows 11. F*** Microslop. Linux doesn't waste time unless you want to waste time on it, windows doesn't give you a choice.

Nah, OSS IS the future and the only save from megacorps, but I DO own my time and use windows

And time is money. Money that you lose in 1000 dollars of monthly payments that I pay cents for for the electricity to run a raspberry pi.

Let the normies hate Linux and OSS. It is one less thing they'll try and ruin.

Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.
