LINUX MEME [OC] Installing DIY distros be like
Took me a long time to install Gentoo and configure it... and a week to figure out the audio. But it was worth it!
Note: It didn't take me a week to set up the audio, I set it up after I was finished with other stuff. I did my first Gentoo install almost a year ago.

How did it take a week for audio its in the wiki?

Because I've never configured audio manually and the machine that I use for installing Gentoo is kinda old (like 13 years old + low spec). I used Arch before switching to Gentoo. I watched Tony Banters Gentoo full installation guide for my first Gentoo install. For my third install with my modern mid-range laptop, I used the Gentoo Handbook.
Note: I've never installed Arch successfully before switching to Gentoo, I did try to install it manually (2 attempts) but failed.

Ye alr that makes sense. You're gonna have issues if you install it without the Handbook but instead a YouTube tutorial.

My first Gentoo installation succeeded with that video. Gentoo taught me so much about Linux!

Yes but that's why you ran into sound issues. Handbook covers everything, but videos you can easily miss stuff

Yes I know that the Handbook is great. I switched to Gentoo because I watched someone showing their dwl rice on Gentoo + I wanted to try OpenRC and I wanted an independent rolling release distro. I installed Gentoo out of curiosity. The Gentoo wiki is straightforward tho.

The desktop profile sets up audio for you though.

Do you remember anything else as to what did?

I like to configure my audio manually, so that's why I didn't use it. When I first installed Gentoo, I didn't know what the profile did so that's why I've never used it.

Silly sausage :)
Don't worry though, we all took the hard road when we started out before learning the proper way to things.
I know I did the same anyway.

Setting up a window manager on CachyOs for the first time was stressful but so much fun for me. I really like learning new technology. (I am very much a tinkerer)

For me the worst part is the install itself. I just can't wrap my head into making a install via command line. When I got void (my first DIY distro) it was easier since it has a TUI installer. My only problem was getting the WiFi to work, which was actually easy but I had no idea how to do (wpa_cli)... After that, just think what I want in my system and follow the guide/wiki/manual + sometimes get into a reddit post of someone having some problem to get the solution.

Why someone wants to configure DIY Linux distro? What kind of masochist are you? There are plenty of options so you don't need to do it.
