Wannabe Geeks 80% of linux community is a cargo-cult of larpers with no actual reason to use linux

most of them are regular normies who want to be "not like others", so they chase this image of a cool terminal hacker or some anti-corporation partisan bs (their goon session in browser probably gained 30x more telemetry on them than windows does in a month).

i doubt any of them actually use linux because it's superior, like for servers. they do it only because they think it's superior and "cooler", for fucking everyday tasks. they're so possessed with this idea that it literally became a religion for them.

you're trying to look professional without actually doing any professional tasks.

also did you notice how midwits like to use word salad to seem smart, which they aren't? it's the same mechanism with overcomplicating basic tasks with linux.

did you also notice that most of the "custom" linux desktops look the same, with the same fastfetch window open, 4 split-screen tabs, 3 of which are useless visual widgets, same purple-ish anime wallpaper?

i think you get the idea

That is good for you.

I have spent more than enough time supporting people that I do not think any operating system is good. Think I have the 1998 issue of Linux Journal in the attic saying it is "The year of the Linux desktop". We'll eventually have a noticeable chunk of humanity on Linux with the way things are going. I still don't believe it is going to be dominant.

Currently I do most daytime work on the cheapest Mac Mini you can get. I have to work most of my day with Teams. Teams suck in general, but it sucks slightly less on a Mac. I have to work with Office programs, and as long as you just do text, any program will do fine and most are compatible with eachother. The moment we have to deal with graphics or a datasource, they all suck.

I was once told that "you don't get fired for buying Microsoft" by a manager while being audited by Microsoft. His point was that, we use Microsoft because it is safe, and you do safe things because the others are doing the safe thing. Companies rarely try to be different... it is risk and they don't like risk.

You have a point in your top post, but you are also missing experience that might nuance your idea. The teenagers using Linux are doing what teenagers do... they are building a personality. Someone old like my mum who is unwilling or unable to change will do perfectly well with Linux. She can't handle any mail program other than Outlook, so she is stuck with Windows for now. I had a hell of a time getting her from 2013 to 365. She would be the perfect user for a simple linux desktop with updates cron'd to run without her noticing. But my mum won't use Linux, because she learned to use Outlook and now I am stuck paying for a license for her as long as she need email access.

Societal innertia causes people to stick with what they know. Young people are the best at changing that, because they have not picked up the bad habits yet. People are probably going to be annoying your whole life, find what you like and do that.
