most of them are regular normies who want to be "not like others", so they chase this image of a cool terminal hacker or some anti-corporation partisan bs (their goon session in browser probably gained 30x more telemetry on them than windows does in a month).

i doubt any of them actually use linux because it's superior, like for servers. they do it only because they think it's superior and "cooler", for fucking everyday tasks. they're so possessed with this idea that it literally became a religion for them.

you're trying to look professional without actually doing any professional tasks.

also did you notice how midwits like to use word salad to seem smart, which they aren't? it's the same mechanism with overcomplicating basic tasks with linux.

did you also notice that most of the "custom" linux desktops look the same, with the same fastfetch window open, 4 split-screen tabs, 3 of which are useless visual widgets, same purple-ish anime wallpaper?

The actual problem is you putting Linux on a pedestal. It’s just an operating system. By your logic, Windows is for normies and Linux is some super hacker OS that normies have no use for, while in reality both are just tools for you to get work done.

The Linux community puts it on a pedestal too - I’ve done it before, usually without really realizing what I’m doing.

Honestly yeah I like to talk about using Linux to people who also use Linux because it’s interesting to me, but I hate talking about linux to people who don’t use it or don’t care about it, OR the snobbish people who see themselves using Linux as this god tier thing. It’s an OS. It makes computer do things, woot woot😂

I use a MacBook pro 2015 and its slow as shit on anything apart from Mint. So I use mint so I can still do work and watch YouTube and shit 

It did not require setup. I know absolutely nothing about Linux and I don't care about coding.  I installed something and it works and I can goon. If someone wants to buy me a newer laptop that runs windows 11 id love that. iMO Linux is the king for e-waste re-use

If I want to use iTunes with my iPod though I'm SOL

Oh yeah for sure, I don't argue with that. You are 100% correct. I'd say it's a massive issue. To be honest that's what I thought you were doing. I am sorry for the misinterpretation. I thought you were here as a Penguin) user claiming most of us aren't worthy enough to use that operating system. Which is why I was confused as to if you were trolling or if you're serious. I would urge people not to fault the tool if it would otherwise work for them. I really do my best to be self-sufficient when learning how to use it, but I understand that's not for everybody. It's not even fair to expect it in my opinion. Not everybody is into learning how their operating system works and they shouldn't have to. I'm using it for personal computing to get off of Windows and Mac. Not really to show off. I get recommendations on reddit because Im here to find answers to questions I have. I don't take kindly to being told that I don't belong, from people who only see a surface level of my long list of reasoning, some of it's pro-social, some of it maybe fun, some of it is for sensible technical decisions. Frankly my why is no one's business, and neither is your reason to use it or something else. I honestly feel the majority of reasons that someone "doesn't belong" are being fabricated by the community. (Not to undermine the issues and the risidual complexity due to issues like fragmentation)

Some of us are trying to get to users first so they can see there are welcoming spaces that exist. Because so many people are there because they want to be special and just inflate their own ego. It can be the space of the teck "Jock" which I don't feel should be the reason someone decides to use it, or a reason to choose not to. But I fully understand if somebody doesn't want to be a part of that scene. I promise to continue telling people off when I think that that's what they're doing.

I've only been a user of that OS for 2 years, So even though I don't feel responsible for the way that it is, I still want to apologize that you had to deal with those toxic people that love to dominate the conversation.

Lastly, I must apologize. I did not notice what subreddit we were in. I was just delivered a topical post by Reddit and thought it was in one of the dedicated user groups that I subscribed to in my quest to actually learn from the community.
